The age old question, to walk or not?

I know a lot of people have asked this same question, and I have never thought about walking a reservation until now... but.

I am hoping to get 9 nights in a BLT standard view Studio Jan 10-19, 2014. I own points at BLT so I have the 11 month booking window. However, this is also marathon weekend, so I am wondering if I should walk it just to make sure I can get the nights I want. I don't really have enough points to do all 9 nights in a Lakeview studio.

So for those with more experience with this type of thing do you think I should walk the reservation?

If I do I am assuming this would be how it would work...

Go online Feb 4 and book Jan 4-Jan 10th. Then call every morning at 8AM (CST) to book/cancel the next day. Do that until I get 7 full days, and then call the next 2 days to get day 8 and 9. Is that right?

Thanks!

Regarding how to do it. Yes, you can start walking whenever you can get the first night so in your example book 7 nights beginning on Jan 4th. That would get you thru check out on the 11th. So on Feb 10th make that your first call back to MS and modify your reservation to start on January 10th - 17th. You do not need to call every day until the 10th to drop and add single nights. Then anytime prior to Jan 17th call back a second time and add your last 2 nights.

Or wait to make the initial reservation for check in on Jan 6th. Then on Feb 12th you could call back, drop the nights of 6th-9th and add the 13th-19th all in one call.

Right. The marathon weekend is high demand, and that falls off quickly once that weekend ends. So getting those nights, even the Thursday and Friday nights fill up quickly since people arrive then to go to the expo, etc, is the key.

Lock those in and the weekend by starting your walk a full week before your arrival date so you get the first day.

I did this with an OKW GV last year. Once the race is over, the booking gets easier. I didn't have enough points for all 9 nights I wanted until I closed on a resale contract, and I had to go on a wait list for the GV for the last few nights. That wait list actually came through, but I have serious doubts whether I could have counted on that happening for the actual marathon weekend.

You don't need to walk that reservation. Just book as soon as your 11 month window opens.
