The ABC's of Trip Planning, Pt 1- K is for Keeping Things Kooky- Drinks V-Z; pg. 197 + New Link

That's impressive staying power! Don't mention the fun you had with this at the park, though. That'll become the next "premium experience" for guests. :rolleyes1

As long as they don't replace the Kim Possible Missions at EPCOT before I get there. (Or have I been away too long that they don't even have those anymore, and my knowledge is lacking?)

I'm just going to nod and smile and pretend I understand what all of that means.

::yes::

I'd feel a WHOLE lot better if I did too!!! :lmao:

Anyway, I just want to say...

GOOD-LUCK-WERE.jpg

Thanks!! Week 1 almost done!!! :cool1:

I'm shocked no one said it before I did...

Y'all are slacking!!!

:lmao::lmao:

Frankly, I am too. Slackers.... :sad2:

Good luck, Liesa! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Thanks, Kathy!! I hope you're feeling better with your hot soup and comfy bed!!! :goodvibes

Thank you, Jill!!! That image right there is totally enough to motivate me to to well. ;)

Bad News Liesa: no more Kim Possible! BUT the game is still there, it is just now hosted by Phineas and Furb (not sure on spelling...)

Also, there are plenty of other new games around the parks, Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom and a pirate game at MK's adventure land. And at AK you can collect badges to become a Wilderness Explorer.

And in other news.... because we're adventure junkies...

I got to watch my son (24) get the mostly chopped off tip of his thumb sewn back on. Yes, I have pictures. Yes, I LOVE the thought of going the ER route. And yes, I will tell you the story after my all-day study session with my Home Girls tonight.

 :scared1: :sad2: Cringing just thinking about it!!!

Not the best plan for creating a scenario to give you a little pre-job nursing experience though..... :confused3 :rolleyes1

So, here is his post that Andrew put up on FB this morning explaining what happened. In his own words:

"So here's what happened. I'm just making dinner, minding my own business when i notice that i need a sharper knife. No biggy. I go sharpen the knife. Turns out I'm REALLY good at it. Chopping onions and BAMF! go right through the end of my left thumb. Carved right through the nail. I found out that I'm very calm and collected when it comes to emergencies.
Mom drove me to the ER where we waited for three hours to get in. We see the doc. and he gives a ton of anesthetic to the thumb. We go to wash it in the bathroom and blood goes EVERYWHERE! Sink, walls, floor, my shoe. So yeah, presser and then stitches. Four stitches with one through the nail. After a tetanus shot and prescription for drugs, I'm out. I also discovered that Oxycodone gives me very low blood presser, so I'm here writing this on the floor with my feed up, the shakes, and dim vision.
Its all good now, but I wont chop onions for a while.
TL;DR Knife: 1 Andrew: 0, blood, pain, four stitches."

It's me again- the nerdy Nursing Student:

It was so KEWL!!!!! I've always wondered if arterial spray was as dramatic as in the movies. Yes, it is. Housekeeping had fun cleaning blood off the bathroom wall, the procedure room floor, and the chair. So much fun! I could totally do ED (ER) work. Totally.

The only uncool part of my evening was waiting in the Waiting Room in a sea of flu and pneumomia germs. EWWWWW! I asked for a mask, becuase not only did I want to blend in, I kinda wanna make it through the term not sick. :crazy2: The other VERY uncool part was waiting 3 hours to get back to the Room. OY!!! Should have gone over to the smaller, nearby town 25 minutes away. I think we'd have been home 3 hours sooner.

Now, I actually want to spend the next little while writing an update that actually has something to do with my Trip. I doubt I'll finish tonight, but you never know.

Peace out.

I'd add gross to the title. :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I'm glad that you were able to handle it...I know I couldn't.

I'm glad Andrew is okay and you got it taken care of.

The sight of blood and guts bothers me MUCH less than someone in obvious pain with crying, hysterics and screaming. That part is harder to deal with for sure.

He'll be fine, skin grows back pretty nicely although his thumb may be a bit ****-eyed forever. ;)

ETA: I find it rather hilarious that it edited out my description of what his thumb might look like in the future! Wow.

Sounds like you are definitely studying for the right occupation! Glad Andrew is going to be ok though!

There are SO many avenues I could take, and I"m so super excited to start all the various rotations at the various settings. In a couple of weeks, I get to observe (BE IN THE O.R.) a surgery. I'm REALLY looking forward to that a lot! An aneurysm repair, or even a hip or knee replacement would be super awesome. Maybe someday, I can shoot for circulating nurse in the OR.

Back when I was in nursing school (for a hot minute!) I got to watch them put pins in some guy's hand that had accidentally put his hand between and engine block and the concrete floor. It was A LOT of pins to put his hand back together. It was cool to watch!

I think it is great that you can get so much enjoyment out of your poor son's misfortune!! :lmao: But it does show that you are training for the right profession. I hope he heals well!

I did something very similar on a New Year's Eve a few years ago. We were making Indian food with some friends at my place and I suddenly cut away nearly half of the top of my thumb (not the nail though!). I think it was cutting onions as well... I was so shocked and just bandaged it up and stopped helping with the cooking as I was totally shaky. I probably should have gotten stitches, but I did not realize how large the cut really was as under all the blood you could not really see it. When I changed the bandage the next day, I was totally shocked how much of a flap it was!! But it healed perfectly. Don't even have a scar anymore.

The long wait sounds horrible! When I fell last February and had to go to the emergency room (my first time ever), I was lucky that here we have something called an "accident hospital". They are kind of specialized on traffic accidents and orthopedic stuff (my mom got a hip replacement there). And they are the place to go to when you need stitches, or like the other guy waiting there got in contact with some chemicals that are now eating away your skin :scared1:. At least no contagious people there!

Spending hours in the emergency room is never fun! Glad all is OK with the thumb. Apparently some one IS really good at sharpening knives.

Liesa - I hope you get to do a ED rotation while in school. Sounds like you would love it. :goodvibes

Exactly!! Although, it was a very calm, organized reaction on everyone's part. The other kids quickly did or got what I asked them to, and no one panicked or freaked.

You were!?! I didn't know this!

Oh that would be a very cool! To see someone have a hand saved due to the skill and education of someone is really nice to see! :goodvibes

:rotfl2: He is a good sport, and was joking about his knife sharpening skilz right along with me. It's all good. ::yes:: The tip may die off, but the under-layers should fill in mostly. He won't be too much worse for the wear.

WOW! Not good. I mean I'm glad it healed up nicely, but OUCH! To not get a stitch or two would make it take a little longer maybe. Andrew's was still, 5 hours later, bleeding like crazy, so I'm really glad we went in!!

I really, REALLY like this system concept! Mixing the germed and the non-germed only makes more sick people! :( Separating them out a bit more specifically is a great idea.

HAHAHA! Yeah, he is! We have this VERY old rotary shapener that works really well still after 50 years. I guess they just don't make stuff like they used to. :lmao:

Me too! I would love L&D, oncology, and an endocrine would be nice too. :cool1:

Yikes! Ouch. Just looking at that photo makes me woozy. Glad he's ok and you guys can laugh about it. :thumbsup2

Hi Anara,
It is good to see you here. :welcome: to the DISboards! :cheer2:

Hi Anara! It's so fun to have you here on the PTR! :yay: I'm not sure if you remember me, but I met you when your mom's crazy DISboard friends came to stay at your house for the weekend a couple of years ago.

Okay, that was all so lovely. Obviously I've known you for a while, but it is so lovely to see that update with the whole family, including wedding photos. And mistakenly, I did not grab kleenex for that last post and that was a mistake.

How lovely to recreate that special family moment. Amazing.

Reading that post really makes me think about my Nana and Mom and how lucky I was to have them...and also how I won't be able to recreate those moments anymore but I can give them to my children, and that's something I know they'd be thrilled about.

Speaking of kiddos, HI KUKILALA!!!! Welcome to the DIS!!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Hi Everyone!

Sorry it took so long to say hello! It would be fun to meet you all someday, if not at WDW, then somewhere else. :)

School is going well. After our awesome trip, we all went back to school and work.
