The 9 Day Birthday Feast w/pics! Updated 9/5

Thanks for sharing you and your family's food experiences :goodvibes I'm finding these types of threads completely addictive! LOL! I keep writing down the good, the bad, & the ugly so I'll know what to try on our upcoming trip!!

I'm so looking forward to a bowl of that chowder. A friend here on the DIS has been raving about it and I'm really excited to try it!:thumbsup2

It was SOOO good! I stuffed myself silly. Probably why I didn't enjoy dessert as much -- I had no room! Enjoy!

THANK YOU SO MUCH! It is my first time writing a dining review report, so I am so glad that people are enjoying reading them. :goodvibes

No luck finding the pics from Earl of Sandwich -- sorry! We have walked by this restaurant probably a dozen times and never noticed it was there. But based on all the good reviews I read on this board, we decided to seek it out this trip, and it did not disappoint! The line was long, but it moved very quickly and just served to give us time to read over all the choices. Service there was very fast and friendly. There is an interesting video about the history of the restaurant playing on the television, and the decor is set up kind of like a library, which is neat.

I had the Earl's Club, which was delicious! I loved the artisan bread, they did not skimp on the turkey at all and the bacon was crisp and delicious (no grease soaked cardboard here!). I got the Earl Grey Lemonade with it, which was a blend of Earl Grey iced tea and Lemonade. It needed sugar but was good. My husband got the Full Montague - roast beef and turkey with cheddar and Swiss cheese, romaine lettuce, tomato and mustard sauce. He loved his as well! My DD got the pb&j, which was a step above the typical pb&j. I can't really comment on the desserts, we ordered a cupcake and a couple of cookies, but we were too full from the sandwiches to eat them and they ended up getting tossed at the end of the week.

Since it's not true food porn without pictures, here's a borrowed one of the Full Montague:) :

We loved the food there and will definitely be back! Next up: Doin' the Wave at The Wave -- with lots of pics!

I cannot believe the waitress at PTC would not serve you. You'd think they'd be all about padding the bill with alcoholic drinks. I got carded at the Mercantile in WL in June. I was buying a beer for my husband, and when the CM scanned the can, it beeped. It beeped again, and another CM came over and told her to check my id. I was flattered because I'm 33, and it's been a while since I was carded.

I am *ahem* a few years older than you and it had been a while since I had been carded, too. And I got carded twice on that trip! It is flattering looking back at it now! :)

Great report and pictures, thanks!

THANK YOU BOTH SO MUCH! I am glad you are enjoying them!

We love Chai. Where is the Anandapur Tea Company?

It is across the street from Yak and Yeti in Asia -- it is a kiosk with a couple of tables off to the side. I love Chai, too! I'm craving it just thinking about it!

We had never been to the Concourse Steakhouse, so we didn't realize it was on the lower level, and we almost didn't make it to our reservation. This is an interesting restaurant decor-wise. When you enter, you walk into this metal tunnel with blue flashing lights like a sci-fi runway. We did the wave for a pic; one with arms overhead, one with arms out, one with arms down, underneath the sign. If you go, do it, it came out cool! Inside the lounge, there are several round rooms with fake tea lights on the tables. Kind of neat, kind of cheesy. We had just sat down and looked at the bar menu when our buzzer went off so we didn't get to order drinks.

The podcast described the dining room as looking like it had been taken from an Ikea catalog. I can't describe it any better than that. My daughter, however, thought it was cool. While in the lounge we were looking over the menu and they had a lot of interesting sounding wines we had never heard of, so we decided to do the wine flight. We weren't able to, however, because they only offer it in the lounge, not the dining room for some reason. So instead I decide to order a Puretini. It was an interesting sounding drink with organic vodka and antioxidant juice. The server must have heard me wrong, because instead of a Puretini, he brought me... A GLOWTINI!!! :rotfl2: My husband died laughing and said now he was off the hook!

For an appetizer, my DH chose the Lettuce Wraps - sauteed lamb and bay scallops with soy-rice wine vinegar sauce . He enjoyed them, the lamb was very tender and the scallops were delicious in the sauce.

I chose the appetizer special, a tomato basil cream soup with a mini grilled cheese sandwich. It was YUMMY!

For dinner, I chose the Grilled Pork Tenderloin with pineapple rice, wilted greens and black been sauce. It was very good. The pork was very tender and I loved the rice and beans.

My DH had the Grilled Beef Tenderloin with oven-dried tomatoes, roasted fingerling potatoes, cabernet sauce and local greens. He did not think it was as good as Chefs de France, but he enjoyed it. Sorry it's a lousy picture!

DD had the pizza, which she loved!

Our server was very nice, although the service seemed very, very slow. I had timed it so we should have been done in time to head upstairs to the fourth floor observation deck for the July 3 fireworks, but instead, we had to let him know we were taking our drinks upstairs to watch the fireworks and would have dessert afterwards. Luckily, they were not busy at all so it wasn't a problem. We wouldn't be keeping someone else from having a table. In fact there were only three tables occupied, ourselves, one other family, and a sad man having dinner with a large Precious Moments doll that he talked to the entire time and then carefully boxed back up before leaving. We felt so sorry for him.

Here's a hint I got from a former CM and her DH that we met that worked out well for watching the fireworks at the Contemporary -- go outside on the fourth floor observation deck and then take the outside stairs up one level to the fifth floor landing to watch the fireworks. It's less crowded, you can still hear the music, and the monorail doesn't obstruct your view!

Dessert was excellent here. The organic, shade grown coffee was good, not too strong. I had the Crispy and Crunchy - Vanilla-braised Pineapple spears, Almond-pineapple-raisin "Baklava", or Zucchini-carrot cake with vanilla panna cotta. It was all good but the carrot cake was my favorite. My husband had the raspberry cheesecake, lemon-basil sorbet, and strawberry sorbet. He liked the raspberry cheesecake the best. Another birthday cupcake for DD :bday:

We enjoyed The Wave, although probably not enough to go back. It was a good value for 1 TS credit. We all agreed, though, that if we're going to the Contemporary, we like California Grill better.

I am glad you were still able to enjoy the fireworks!

I really hope your were kidding about the sad guy dining alone!

Enjoying your reviews, it's nice to hear another review of the Wave as it's one we're still considering.

Unfortunately I wasn't. It was very sad. He had the doll sitting opposite him during his meal, having a conversation with it, then took what looked like the original box out of a backpack and very carefully wrapped it back up in tissue paper and boxed it up before he left. He seemed okay, otherwise, oddly enough. We saw him take out a calculator (to figure out the tip I assume), paid by credit card, was very polite to the servers, and seemed to be well dressed. We couldn't help but wonder what had happened in his life that had led him to that point. We felt very sorry for him and I hope he is well.

THANK YOU! :goodvibes I think The Wave is definitely worth a shot. No real complaints outside of the extremely slow service (especially considering they were practically empty).

Thanks for the wonderful reviews. I especially appreciated hearing about Chefs de France and The Wave.

How did y'all like the seating by the rear window? Was it quiet? DH and I are looking for a quiet meal and our ressie is at 9:00 with 9:30pm Illuminations. Would you recommend this area?

Just so I'm clear, as I've honestly not heard of anyone doing this before (maybe it's just special to the Wave??) :confused3 You were able to *leave* the restaurant and come back to get your dessert? Was this because of the fireworks or do people do this at other restaurants and at other times too???

Great reviews - you have had some lovely meals so far. I can't say that DH and I cared much for SSR's food court when we stayed there last year. We were hoping it may have improved :confused3

It was really lovely, quieter than the main part of the restaurant. I would highly recommend it! You'll have to step outside to watch fireworks, though. I'll try and upload you our pic of the back window so you can see the perspective.

I don't know if they typically allow it, but yes, us and the one other family that was eating there that night were able to leave our table to go upstairs and watch the fireworks then come back to complete our meal. We have also done that at Crystal Palace -- stepped outside to watch fireworks and then come back in. It was our waiter's suggestion in that instance.

THANKS SO MUCH! I will try and get another update out soon! Let me know how SSR's food court was for you, I am still hoping they were just having a bad day... :)

Thanks for that input. We actually were mostly trying to avoid Illuminations which is why we booked at that time. This sounds like a great spot for us. Thanks!

Then it'll be perfect! Here's a pic for you of the side window room (from the outside).

Sorry for the delay in updates, I've been under the weather. We went to the Main Street Bakery twice. The first day, we went for a snack because my daughter wanted an ice cream and I had read on the boards about the great ice cream sandwiches they have there. Well, that was an understatement. The snack turned out to be an ice cream lunch because it was huge! But OH SO GOOD!!!! The wonderful CM, bless his heart, told me I could choose two different cookies, so I choose chocolate chip and white chocolate macadamia. They were saucer size, warm and ooey-gooey, and filled with the best vanilla ice cream I have ever had. My DD and DH went with standard chocolate chip cookies for theirs. We had to eat them with a fork! They will definitely be a must-have for future trips!

We went back the next day for breakfast (as I was boycotting Artists' Palette) and got HUMONGOUS yummy cinnamon rolls and a fabulous iced coffee. Here are a few pics. You can see the CM making one of the sandwiches in the background of the first picture. It takes the entire container!

Lottawatta Lodge at Blizzard Beach was by far the worst quick service I have ever been to at WDW. They wouldn't let my DD choose anything outside of the kids' menu, so she chose a hot dog that looked like it was leftover from the day before. My DH got the chicken nuggets and fries -- the fries were okay, the chicken nuggets were dried out but edible. I chose the chicken wrap which had no taste at all! None!! Also, the spinach tortilla was slimy for some unknown reason. My DH ended up splitting his nuggets and fries three ways. The meal fell strictly into the 'sustenance' category. As this was our second bad experience there and there are no other real options at Blizzard Beach, we've decided to adjust our plans so we can go early and leave before lunch from now on! BLECK! Can anyone tell me, is the food any better at Typhoon Lagoon?
