Does anyone know it MK will have any special events on Oct. 1? We will be there that day, but as I've right now I had planned on going to a different park that day...If there is something planned I'll need to rework our schedule a bit!

Don't know?

We are contemplating going down to do the F&W 5K. Still undecided, so it would help to know if anything special will be going on. My DD8 wants to go down just to be there on the exact day of the 40th ann, and of course go to MNSSHP the nite before. ;)

DS really wants to go down, that's his birthday also! (although he is not turning 40, just 8...) I am on the fence, because I lurv my Disney, but the crowds that day will make me cry.

well, that and I really don't need to be reminded that I'm older than WDW. :rotfl2:

I'm hoping they'll do something at MK to at least acknowledge it...it would certainly help with planning and dealing with crowds if I had some idea of what to expect if we go on the 1st!

Well....I'll be there that day. Whether they do anything or not, we'll know we were there on the 40th anniversary. Would be nice if they made a special souvenir for that specific date. I've been to Disney many times and never bought a souvenir, but I'd buy one if they did something special for this.

I am also planning to go down for MNSSHP the night before and being at Disney World on 10/1 just to say that I was there :dance3: I really hope they acknowledge it in some way pixiedust:

I was there on the 50th anniversary of DL and although it was DL they didn't do anything special. They did however sell t-shirts just that day to commemorate the anniversary. But there was nothing special. However, I would think they may do something before park opening when they bring the train out and stuff.:confused3

Although Disneyland had its own ceremony on the actual 50th anniversary (July 17, 2005), both DL and WDW had already kicked off the Happiest Celebration on Eartha few months earlier on May 5, both with special ceremonies, so that's why there was nothing going on at WDW on the actual anniversary date.

I would expect there to be at least something going on for MK's 40th. WDW Celebrations, a large fan meet group, has activities planned for October 1 at MK and in the past when they have planned anniversary events Disney has had official goings-on set up, as well. For instance, Animal Kingdom's 10th anniversary had a special opening ceremony with Jane Goodall and an Imagineering presentation with Joe Rhode, while Hollywood Studios' 20th anniversary had a similar Imagineering presentation. I don't think anything official has been announced for the 40th yet, but I expect there to be at least something small going on, hopefully more.

Maybe they will paint the castle pink and cover it with frosting!!!! Oh how lovely that would be!!

I have a picture somewhere for the 25th Anniversary in Disney where they made the castle up like a big pink cake!! Now you're going to make me go through all my boxes of photo albums to see if I can find it!!

I know that is what I was referring to!! And NO I really don't want to see the castle like a big pink cake, I am quite happy that we missed that the first time and would not like a repeat!!!

I have pictures of the pink castle! We stayed at Fort Wilderness that trip and every time we took a boat to the MK it got pinker and uglier.

We won't be at WDW until November, so we are 'celebrating' by going to a production of The Lion King.
