The 2010 World Cup Thread / South Africa

Anybody feel sorry for Giuseppe Rossi? He was the American kid born in New Jersey to Italian-immigrant parents who tried to make the Italian team only to fail to qualify. Apparenlty he would have made the US team (probably been one of its stars). Now he has forever lost his eligibility to ever play for the US.

Hell no I don't feel sorry for that traitor. He was born here and wants to play for another country, be my guest, don't let the door hit you on the way out.

He also scored twice on USA last year in the Confederations Cup. Have fun watching the Cup at home kid.

We're cheering for Portugal here

I do feel bad for Rossi as he was wanted to play for his parent's homeland...no different then the Olympics, World Hockey, etc. where athletes can choose who they want to represent

Thank you ma'am, but my mom has already volunteered to take care of us:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Wouldn't want to upset mom, even at 36:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

Actually, I'm a Federal Agent, not a soldier, though I do deploy over here. I don't wish to steal any thunder from our hardworking men and women over here.

Who you calling ma'am? Last time I checked, I was a sir (that can't be right. I'm an enlisted man. You can't call me sir :lmao:)

As far as I'm concerned. If you are in country, which it sounds like you are, troop or not, you are serving in some capacity and we thank you for it.

Not at all. karma is a b itch. He would not have only made the US team, but he would have been starting on Saturday. He not only chose Italy over the US but he was arrogant about it, ending with an over the top celebration when he scored against the US in last summer's Confederation's Cup.

I don't feel sorry for him but wouldn't go as far as calling him a traitor either. His parents were born in Italy and he grew up in a house that supported Italy first and the US second. He went back to Italy at the age of 13 to play in the Parma Youth team and has been in Europe ever since.

I really wish he had made a different decision because I think he would have made us a better team but I definitely don't feel sorry for him. He isn't the first Oriundo to play for the azzurri and won't be the last.

If anyone is interested Andrea Canales did a pretty good article on Rossi and his decision to try and play for Italy back in 2005 on ESPN Soccernet. The article can be found here.

You do realize we are talking about soccer, right? It is not like he joined the Taliban. I think I will withhold the firing squad on this one.

The thing that makes me most mad is that these are the types of decisions that prevent USA from taking that next step forward in Soccer play. I want to see the USA start to gradually better and when players who were born here don't even want to play here, it sucks!

i leave in 1 week for the world cup, I'll take some pictures and do a massive trip report when I get back.... be jealous.
