The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

But we need a commentary unless we are traveling with you!:worship:popcorn::

Reasonable amounts, I know London, inside, out, cant get lost! Lived here all my life.

But, unlike other places, most of London is self explanatory, Buckingham House, Westminster, St Paul's, Shakespeare's Globe, Tower of London.

And even Pizza Hut.

I like the Wendy's in Venice!:thumbsup2;):lmao:

OK,

Firstly on topic, I am not sure if the Magic will show it, it should be able to, as when its in port, it can pick up local TV, BBC1 is free to air, and therefore anyone with a TV ariel in the UK can get it. BBC3 runs repeats is digitail and not sure if the Magic can pick it up.

Also note this topic is always popular, I psted a lot of photos on the Dis last week, the Magic leaving on Saturday, port Cams Ocean sea conditions, one photo of Doctor Who got more views than any other.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Doctor Who is a British science fiction television programme produced by the BBC. The programme depicts the adventures of a mysterious, humanoid alien known as the Doctor, he is a *time lord* the last of his race, (as we know it currently) who travels through time and space in his spacecraft, the TARDIS (an acronym for Time And Relative Dimensions In Space), which normally appears from the exterior to be a blue 1950s British police box. With his companions, he explores time and space, faces a variety of foes and rights wrongs.
The programme is listed in Guinness World Records as the longest-running science fiction television show in the world, and as the "most successful" science fiction series of all time, in terms of its overall broadcast ratings, DVD and book sales, iTunes traffic and "illegal downloads."It has been recognised for its imaginative stories, creative low-budget special effects during its original run, and pioneering use of electronic music (originally produced by the BBC Radiophonic Workshop). The show is a significant part of British popular culture;in the United Kingdom and elsewhere, it has become a cult television favourite and has influenced generations of British television professionals, many of whom grew up watching the series. It has received recognition from critics and the public as one of the finest British television programmes, including the BAFTA Award for Best Drama Series in 2006, and five consecutive wins at the National Television Awards since 2005, in the Drama category.
The programme originally ran from 1963 to 1989. After an unsuccessful attempt to revive regular production with a backdoor pilot in the form of a 1996 television film, the programme was successfully relaunched in 2005,with a far bigger budget. produced in-house by BBC Wales in Cardiff. The first was produced by the BBC and series two and three of the new series had some development money contributed by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), which was credited as a co-producer. Doctor Who also spawned spin-offs in multiple media, including the current television programmes Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures, the standalone K-9 and a single 1981 pilot episode of K-9 and Company.
The Doctor has been played by eleven actors. The transition from one actor to another is written into the plot of the show as regeneration, whereby the character of the Doctor takes on a new body and, to some extent, new personality. Although each portrayal is different, and on occasion the various incarnations have even encountered one another, they are all meant to be aspects of the same character. The Doctor is currently portrayed by Matt Smith, who took up the role after David Tennant's final appearance in an episode broadcast on 1 January 2010. A fifth series of the relaunched programme began on 3 April 2010, in which the Eleventh Doctor is accompanied by Amy Pond, portrayed by Karen Gillan.

This will run for 13 weeks on BBC1, DW has one many BAFTA's (UK TV Oscars), and most of our A list actors and comics want to guest on it.

Now back on topic.

I am going to the Baltic in just over 90 days!!!!!

This is terrifically helpful, and I'm going to track down earlier seasons and start watching this with the family. It sounds like great fun.

And Andrew, I'm with you on the excitement factor for how soon the Baltic trip will be here!! WOW!!!!!:thumbsup2

Hey for my Parkwood buddies (Slg and Ktksspider)!!!

Are you planning on getting an Oyster card for using the tube around London? There is a tube station close to the Parkwood so I figured that would be the most convenient...or would this be necessary if you are considering a HOHO bus:confused3

Not sure but we are leaning towards the Oyster card... like the idea of the HOHO bus just to get "a lay of the land" without getting lost on the first day (since there is a stop right around the corner from us..) May do the HOHO for the first day then move on the the oyster card. I like the idea of jumping on the tube and buses where ever we are (we don't have to follow the path of the HOHO to get where we want to go) also the HOHO stops running fairly early in the day. 6pm (If not a bit earlier for some routes) I believe.. so that would leave the tube/bus to get around after that time anyway. I need to go find out if the HOHO is 1 day or 24 hours..:confused3

Many options!

Yes fully organized and ready to go, for me its just the 12 night cruise and an hour to/from Home to port. This is going to be very good but a commando experience, so we are having a Greek vacation before it for the sun!!

On the kids thread for our cruise someone was asking what was *cool* and by son said the pools are really cool. I wanted to add in the Baltic that might be to true, that the pools will be really cool.

Haven't been on this thread in a while. I have a problem. We want to rent a car on Sunday the 18th to get from Dover to London, keep it over night, and return it to the airport on the 19th for our departure. The car rental place is closed on Sunday. :confused3 UGH!!! As of now, we have an inquiry started and if an employee is willing to come in and open to give us a car, we might be in business. Now for the risky tricky part of this...

Is there any one on the July 18th Itinerary renting a car in London to drive to port? Are you willing to possibly, maybe, i can't believe I am asking this, share a car rental? example...car rented in London for Dover return on the 18th, rather than return one, share the rental and cost and have car returned to London Heathrow on the 19th. Just throwing it out there. DH might not even go for this.

The reason is we would like to visit Hever Castle for the day before we head back to London.

Look at the link I gave Robert (RJAYL). It says they are for a 24 hour period.

What have you tried, National, Hertz, Europcar?

LOL. Way too cool for swimming, potentially. I cannot believe you are squeezing in a trip to Greece before 12 nights in the Baltics. I have zero vacation before then (although of course I spent a week at Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort last month so I can't complain). I am however not at all fully organized and ready to go, but I will be before long!

Yes, squeezing one in, in May for Rhodes.........:)

I get a reasonable amount of holiday days, but with strings cant have more than two weeks at a time.

:woohoo:YEAH!!! Thanks. Since we don't start disembarking until 10:30 I am thinking it will be at least 1:00 before we get to our Hotel. That will give us several hour to use for the next day..

Thanks for the info on DW, but it is hard to look past DT he was definitely the best. They've been playing reruns here leading up to the new one. I am disappointed they changed "The Doctor" but with what you wrote I will watch with an open mind(at first I wasn't going to). Thanks for the London info we will be there 3 days prior to baltic cruise and 1 day after. what time does it come on? I was going to try to look for DW souveniers while I was there any suggestions on where to get them? Thanks I'm a huge DW fan!!

Sorry going back to the Doctor for a few minutes ( I was at work when you had the conversation) this reminds me of college. A friend of mine was a huge fan of Tom Baker (as were millions) then Davidson took over & I personally liked him better. But you do have to have the mind set that's the Dr has regenerated so he's a new person (more or less)

Another note NETFLIX has the "new" series starting with Chris E available as Instant so you can stream them without waiting for the DVD's - if you want the older ones they do have them available on DVD.

I got my older DS hooked (he's 14) & he made his id Dr23815 (if you count out the alphabet it spells WHO w=23 etc)
here's my Baltic tie in - we're hoping that while we are in London before the cruise we can see something related to him & either episodes we've watched or perhaps in was at Madame Toussou's

We are also staying out late the first night in St Pete. :cool1: We have a DD 15 and a DS 13. Our family has decided to take the plunge and experience all we can in St. Pete. I think we are off the ship from the time we arrive until midnight on the first day, and then we are looking at least a 12 hours of touring/eating/shopping on the second day. Like you, we have no idea if we will ever return to St. Pete. We really don't want to miss out on anything.

Aurorafan65 is almost as crazy as we are. She has joined our private2-day tour in St Pete. Her family will be running around like my family. :dance3: I am just trying to get her to join the Fun Cruise on the first night! What the heck, you only live once! :woohoo:

Almost as crazy :rotfl:I keep going back & forth on the canal. I want someone else in my house to help make a decision
