The 2010 Baltic Thread--Cruise Tips and Planning

We did Rome on our own but managed to find shutters people taking pictures at the Vatican, Collaseum, Trevi Fountain,

We also did Pomoei on our own & had our pictures taken there as well!:thumbsup2

So there is hope for all of us on private tour's in STP:banana:

For those of you going to London after your cruise, how are you getting there?

I am very undecided still and would love to hear what others are doing for some inspiration.

I favour doing the Leeds debarkation excursion but since no one else is doing it, I'm worried it won't happen or that its a dumb thing to do.

It seems a nice way to end the cruise, having one last excursion with my DCL friends and a relaxing way to get back to London.

Where do you find information on the Leeds excursion? We are also interested in that, but have no idea where to find the info...:confused3

After the cruise we pick up a rental car at the port and will visit Dover Castle and then drive north to Canterbury Cathedral and then head over to Heathrow for a 6 pm flight. We were going to do Leeds after the cruise and Dover Castle before but we decided to do Leeds before and Dover after.

We are not sure if after the cruise we will be tired of being tourists and just wanting to go home or, after 2 sea days, fully rested and take in some more touring. I hope the latter.

We are trying to call to get our time for the London Eye...
We booked the package with Porters dinner and London Eye.

For some reason we are having problems dialing the number to the London Eye. Anyone else have difficulty? I got through to Porters with no problems.
Help?

Is this something they posted ahead of time so you knew the photographers would be in port? This would be great if they did this on the Baltics cruises.

I guess the photographers on DCL have photographic memories:rotfl2: because they actually spotted us at Trevi fountain when we were doing Rome on our own. There were no other tours from DCL at the fountain at that time, the fountain area was packed but the photographers from DCL picked us out of the crowd and took several great photos of us.

We had problems also. I finally ended up emailing the customer service email address and got help very quickly!

There's a great article in PortHole magazine, June 20010. Called " Fit for a Kid ". They talk about kids' receiving journals !! I'm very happy ! But want to ck w/ the Med cruisers to see if they are infact getting them !
Did you find out if they are repeating this?
I'd be happy to have my kids journal the trip:thumbsup2

When we cruised the Med in 07, Disney had photographers at key tourist locations (Tower in Pisa, Colossium in Rome, Pompeii, etc) where you get pictures taken even if you were not with a Disney excursion. You could then check them out at Shutters.
Oh, that is so cool:cool1::thumbsup2
Hope we get some:woohoo:
Maybe wearing a Disney shirt will make it more likely to get spotted:confused3

We had the opposite problem. Able to get through for the London Eye by phone and then couldn't get Porters on the phone at all. Eventually heard back when I emailed Porters though (took a few days).

Have heard good things about this package from Barb though-so looking forward to it:woohoo:

Hang in there:hug: Try by email like carolyn suggested.

we got some great pics at the Vatican...and in Monte Carlo...it was a great added treat. I also spent the most I have ever spent on photos on that trip too!!!

Us too on all of the above, including the large bill for photos that we purchased on board. It was totally worth it though to have those great photos in addition to the 500 or 600 we took ourselves. We used the shutters Monte Carlo photo for our Christmas card that year

Thank you very much, I did the same and am very impressed with how quickly they got back to me to help. :O) :thumbsup2

I know for me it was like they were sitting at their computer just waiting for an email to come through so they could respond! :)

I might have missed it but to those of you that live in London and close by - What do you think of the London Minicab from Heathrow to our London Hotel?

All this talk of Shutters reminded me of something. When we took our Disney cruise, someone posted a website that had a letter giving us permission to make copies of the pictures we bought. It gave us a 30 day window from when we printed the letter. Does anyone have that website?

If you get pictures taken when on excursions, keep this in mind...I got all the photos home and then noticed we all had our excursion stickers on! Gave us the DUH, TOURIST look.

This time I will try to remember to cover them up or take them off.

In the Panama Canal, they posted in the Navigator when they would be outside taking pictures of the ship, in case we wanted to go out and wave at them....we did....
But when they've done the "new" ports, like Barbados or St Kitts, we just happened to run into them a few times. They were out taking pictures that they later used for their "stock" photos of those ports. I don't think they had it posted anywhere. Just go ask them at the beginning of the cruise.

We also loved the photographs taken by DCL on the 2007 Med cruise! We ordered our Christmas cards right there on board the ship, selecting one of the photos they had taken and one of the Disney styles offered for the cards. They were ready for us before we left the ship. Hoping to do the same this year on the Baltic!
