The 2009 Yacht & Beach Club FAQ Thread

I just heard from one of the chefs to discuss food options for our allergies. I thought somebody that read my earlier questions might like to hear what I found out.

  • Beaches & Cream no longer serves breakfast. They do have Tofutti ice cream in chocolate and vanilla, as do all of the restaurants at BC/YC. The sit down restaurants also have allergy safe sprinkles.
  • They can make breakfast muffins that are safe for our huge list of allergies with advanced notice (let him know well before we travel so he can make sure to have the ingredients).
  • Counter service options are very limited. B&C can make a few grilled items, but highly recommends the Captain’s Grille.
  • Silk is available for purchase at the Marketplace, but most likely just the single serving containers.
  • Captain’s Grille serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. They can make meals to go or even room service delivery. All room service meals are made in the Captain's Grille kitchen. To go meals are at the regular menu prices.
  • CG does have Bob’s Red Mill mixes and a dedicated Mickey waffle iron so allergy free pancakes and waffles are definitely doable.
  • CG can make allergy safe mac & cheese as well as chicken nuggets/fingers. It's good to order ahead and provide a pickup time if wanting them to go but they can do it at time of order (I love the option of pre-ordering).
  • CG does fries in a dedicated gluten free fryer. French fries are safe.

I've definitely got some thinking to do. I need to make up my mind tonight if I'm going to book at Yacht Club since my ADR window opens Friday morning and they'll be different if I end up with a split stay at YC.

Quick question.....I noticed in reading previous posts that SAB was rehabbed/refurbished during this past winter (08-09) .

I just got a great rate at YC for the end of December, and the TA told me that it was because the pool/parts of the pool would be closed for rehabs. Would it be rehabbed again that soon? :confused3 Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks!

Yes, they did a major rehab last winter, starting in early January that lasted a few months. However, every year that I've been there and this is my sixth year, they have done minor rehab during the winter. In the past six years they have never taken the whole pool down at one time though. They only do it in sections. It usually starts after the holiday season ... and I can't ever remember any of the pool being closed during the end of December. That week between Christmas and New Year's is one of our busiest weeks. However, although nobody told me this, I would bet it will go down like normal in early January (probably around the 4th or 5th) for routine winter maintenance. Again, I'm just giving you my opinion from past years and anybody that has a pool knows you need to do maintenance on it regularly. Like I said before though, they have always done it in sections ... usually one-third at a time. Therefore, two-thirds of SAB is always open.

You will find this at every resort - the pools need yearly rehab. And it is normally done at the time when most people do not use the pool (because it's so cold out) and the resort is the least crowded which at the Y&B is normally January.

We leave on the 22nd and start our trip at CSR then move to BCV for the last 4 nites. We are hoping to spend a lot of time in the pool as our parks should mostly be done.

What time is the movie? Is there towel animal folding class? What else is there? Where is the laundry room for the DVC members?

I can't wait and need this trip. Congrats to everyone who is going soon.

Thanks so much TeenaS!:thumbsup2 I had read enough of this thread to know that if anyone would know the answer...you would!

We will be there during that busiest week ever! :scared1::scared1: We've never stayed at YC and I was hoping that we could try out the pool while we're there. (That is, if it's warm enough for us Southerners to swim;))

I haven't seen any posts lately about the progress of the room renovations. We are checking in on Friday and I was curious to find out which floors are now complete. Anybody have any updates?

Teena-

We check in on Sat...will you be working next week? I'd love to meet you in person :)

Depends on how long you are there. I'm leaving on Saturday for my Disney vacation on the Disney Magic (7 night cruise). I'm be back in the BC lobby on Sunday, 9/27. If you're still there then, I'd sure like to meet you too!

We were there 2 weeks ago and had room 4199 and 4197 (standard view overlooking a roof near the Yachtsman and saw part of Stormalong Bay pool). Both rooms were newly refurbished and beautiful!!

Teena - have a great time on your cruise!

Teena, I don't post much on here but I read a lot. Thanks for all your help. Have a great cruise! We check in at the YC on the 27th. We will have to head over to the BC and say Hi!

We leave the afternoon of the 27th. So its the 27th! What hours will you be there? I'll make sure I get a moment to walk over.:):):)

Regina, thanks so much ... see you on the 4th!!!

Karlzmom and Tink76 .... can't wait to meet you on the 27th. I get into the BC lobby around 8:30 AM. I normally take a 30 minute lunch at 12:15 and then a 15 minute break around 3 PM and I leave at 4:45 PM.

I just finished packing. Now I've got the rest of the day and tomorrow to do some cleaning and off we go Saturday morning to the Disney Magic!!

Thanks Robyn! It's nice to be on the other side of a Disney vacation once in a while. I love that ship and Castaway Cay!

How's the family doing?

We are soooo missing Disney. Can't wait for July. Right now I have to live vicariously through the boards!!! Oh well at least I'll have two weeks in Disney to look forward to.

DH has always wanted to do a Disney cruise too. Maybe after all the changes to Castaway Cay are done! Have a wonderful trip - you deserve to be the one "spoiled" by Disney for a change! How is Bob doing - all recovered? Have a WONDERFUL TRIP!!!!!

Perhaps we'll get to meet you, too. We arrive 9/26 at BC. 9/27 we'll be out early for Discovery Cove, but hopefully back before 4:45. If we don't see you then, maybe we'll run into you sometime later in the week, before we depart 10/3.

Also hoping to run into Art. And "Arnie Palmer" the busboy. And Mr Baxter at the front desk (it was 2001 or 2003, I might have that name wrong)...

I'll be at YC on the 29th, I'll see a few of you at the pool. :)

Can't believe it is almost here.

:cool1:

I'll be working also on Monday so perhaps we can meet then. Art will be working the other five days. I don't know Arnie - he's a busboy at what restaurant? There's no Mr. Baxter at the front desk that I know of and I've been there about 5-1/2 years. We all go by first names anyway. Nobody really knows anybody's last names.

Have a safe trip in and I hope I get to meet you on Monday!

TeenaS Have a great time. I hope you find a "TeenaS" to help take care of you on your vacation. You always have been so great helping the Dis boards.
