OMG that was sooo me! We actually even considered switching to a regular cl room (BC said they would credit us the difference in price). They did however tell me that they would have the pest control people me extra vigilant around our room. We ended up taking the 1st floor room and LOVING it! It was steps away from the quiet pool (which the kids loved at night) and we were soooo close to EPCOT it was unreal. DH keeps saying that if we book the deluxe room again next year he wants the same room! (and he has a fear of snakes too!).

The funny this is ds did see a snake at BC (but it wasn't near our room) it was on the walkway! We've also seen a snake at the Poly, AK and Tom Sawyers Islands on our many trips. I spend a lot of time at Disney looking down to see where I'm walking!

Thanks Robyn, you're making me feel better about the room situation! I just have such a big fear of snakes! I am definitely going to put my request in, but I completely understand that room requests are not guaranteed.

Okay I had to post again... I asked a question on page 2 and I don't think I've seen an answer yet.

Do they still offer movies on the beach in December? Are there any other evening activities at YC/BC that might interest an adult couple without kids?

Thanks!

Last year they did still have activities and movies on the beach in December. They also had holiday activities (choirs, groups, etc.) once in a while in the lobby in the evening usually ... at both the YC and BC. It was more towards the middle of December.

I just wanted to mention my experience with the YC club waterveiw room. I called to make sure the rooms do have daybeds. I spoke to several people and they told me those rooms do not have daybeds, even though when I booked the CM said some do. It is kind of important for our party of 4 to have a daybed because we have 3 ladies and my brother. He needs his own bed. I had to change my reservation to a garden view club room because they said in those rooms the daybed is standard and I would be guaranteed a daybed. I was soooo disappointed, though. I took so long deciding which resort I would like to go to and then which room category. I really wanted the waterview with the boardwalk in the background. I agree with you "scottmel" (I think melissa), view is very important to me too. I decided to change because I didn't want my brother to be uncomfortable the whole trip, and I didn't want a rollaway bed in the room either. I'm now trying to say in my mind I probably wouldn't look out the window too often...because we will be in the parks or in the pool so much. And, we will be much more comfortable with the bedding. But, I must say, I cried a little when I got off the phone because I really wanted the waterview. I really wish they would make those waterview club rooms with daybeds, but I'm guessing they may be a bit smaller and perhaps families of 5 do not typically book those rooms, so they may not need as many. Anyway, I now know what to expect when I get there... that my room may not have a great view, but, yes... we are at Disney, and we will have a great time no matter what.

Oh, Teena, have a great time on your trip! I know that packing is the most difficult part of preparing for my trips, and once I do I get very excited. It must have been hard to pack for colder weather if you have mostly sunny weather clothes. I will come to say hi when we are in Disney. You mentioned earlier that you would be there when my family visits.

I totally agree with you and most of the CM and managers will agree too. Unfortunately we were not the design crew. We'd love to ring their necks! And the standing balconies ... what a nightmare. Everybody wants a full balcony. It might look nice from the outside but really ...

I have to say though that all the waterview CL rooms are nice views and if you are a balcony dweller, then that's the only way you can guarantee a decent view. I do like all the CL rooms being on the same floor. The suites and deluxe rooms that are not on the fifth floor, our major complaint from those guests in those rooms are that they are not on the fifth floor with the lounge. I just like to warn people that if you book a standard or what the website says is a garden view at the Y&B, and a view is really important to you, you could be very very disappointed. Some of those standard views are just ugly ... no other word to describe them. They are fine for me because like I said, I never open the drapes when I'm in the room.

The price for the deluxe room is inbetween the price of a standard view CL and a water view CL. Those rooms have nice views ... all of them. Not all of them have full balconies though. So that's an alternative for you I suppose.

I'm big on telling people the truth so you get no surprises. If you know going in that you booked a standard view room (whether it be CL or not), and that your view could be an ugly roof or parking lot, then you won't be in shock when you look out the window. However, if you go into it thinking it's going to be a garden, well, you could get a courtyard view but there's just as much chance you'll get the parking lot or roof view. I HATE BAD SURPRISES!!

I agree with you entirely Teena, My number one request this year has been for a courtyard view, i'll take whatever balcony comes with it, but coming for 18 nights, I just cannot stretch to waterview no matter how much I'd love to, so will have to take the chance and hope for something not really horrible.

Have a great cruise Teena

I finally found out where and how to do the ticker and my signature. I'm so excited. Only 2 weeks and we will be there! :yay:

Last year we did a Grand Gathering at BC CL. My three older sons and my Mom were sharing one room. Their room didn't have a daybed but there was no problem getting a rollaway for my Mom. You probably would be able to do that at YC too. Also without the daybed in the room there was plenty of room for the rollaway.

I am always so happy to be at Disney in any shape, form or fashion, that I could practically sleep in the lobby! The view for me is my kids faces!

And for the snake haters.. I ask my DH to put moth balls around our yard. It keeps the snakes away... of course, your yard smells like grandma's attic.. but hey... it works!

I'm reading a lot of posts here re snakes - what kind? - are they poisonous? - am I about to do my best Steve Irwin impression? - never thought about snakes before:confused3

Florida has snakes and alligators. WDW is in Florida. We moved here five years ago and I saw more snakes in central Pennsylvania than I've seen where I live here and at WDW. WDW has excellent "pest control". It's really not something to worry about. Some people have fear of snakes and bugs and prefer to be on upper floors thereby thinking there will be less chance of seeing a snake.

LOL - I saw plenty of lizards on my 3rd floor balcony - I think they were on their way to the 4th floor!

You've got that right ... and don't forget the tree frogs!! The lizards and frogs have races up the building.

If that is true DD will never go to the parks, but spend her days trying to catch & play with them. She has always had a love for them & she is turning 11 in WDW!:butterfly:snail::squirrel::flower1:paw: :magnify:

Hello to all, I am new to this site so please bear with me.

My wife and I booked a vacation at YC to take place Oct 1-7. We will be celebrating our 25th anniversary. From what I have gleaned from this site, the YC is undergoing refurbishing presently. Has any one been bothered by the activity? Like noise, dust, paint smells, etc.
Also what does refurbishment mean exactly, is there demolition and construcion going on or is it more like redecorating?
Thanks

I read on a board - I thought it was this one - that someone did check into YC during the reno and was bothered by noise and due to lack of room at YC (in an area not being affected by noise) had to transfer to BC.

Teena, have a wonderful vacation. I absolutely loved your story about the family's first WDW stay and the magic you shared. :grouphug:

Hey TeenaS, have a great time in Alaska. Living in Wisconsin, it took a long time for my husband to talk me into a cruise in Alaska. We get so little summer that it seemed wrong to me to go somewhere further north during that time. That said, it is gorgeous1 I fell in love with the state and I usually prefer beaches and pools. We did not think it was cold other than the day cruising the glaciers but we are from Wisconsin so it is all relative. On the cooler days though, you can tell who is from the north (wearing shorts/capris and t-shirts) and who is from the south (winter coats with hats/gloves). You will have a great time. We, on the other hand, are heading south. We are looking forward to heat because it has been extremely cool here this summer. We arrive at the BC on July 31st so maybe we will see you sometime during our week there. Have a great cruise and STAY WARM!

Hi neighbor! My DH has been trying to talk me into an Alaskan cruise for a long time now. Although I have heard nothing but rave reviews of Alaskan cruises, being from MN it just has never appealed to me as we tend to travel in our cooler months (November/December)-it is sort of our escape from the frozen tundra :) Well, that and a losing Viking season... :rolleyes1 But I digress.

I can relate to the knowing who is from the north. Last year during our trip to WDW Wilderness Lodge it was too cold even for us to go to the pool most nights. There was the funnest CM working at the front desk who remembered where we were from. She asked us one day if we were some of the bold people swimming at night. I had to laugh b/c one night as we walked by the pool dressed in our sweatshirts and looking at the steam coming up off the pool, lifeguards dressed in jackets and looking freezing but still plenty of people swimming and having lots of fun I jokingly thought to myself 'I bet a lot of the locals would think these people are Minnesotans'. I don't know but for whatever reason it cracked me up. I'm hoping we have good luck in December this year as we plan on trying out SAB for sure! :woohoo:

Off to the airport ... I'll check in with the disboards on August 1st (after I get the laundry started). :laundy:

Thanks for responding, I did some more looking and found answers in the 2008YC thread.
