They're just pushing Jumper. If you aren't bothered by the 473 Coke product placements, that shouldn't have bothered you either. :teeth:

I thought it was super stupid, and I also DETEST the Coke placements and the ridiculous Ford comemrcials with the contestants.

Ace Young will appear in a future episode of Bones, and will be one of the featured “Where are they now?” American Idol alum on this year’s show.

Ace Young — American Idol 7 — Top 24 Party

He's in an acapella group called Chapter 6 which was formed during a college class at Millikin University. They give master classes and concerts at high schools, colleges, and churches. They have produced a few CD's on their own, but they are not signed by anyone. You can see some of their videos from college campus performances on You Tube. The high school and college kids love them. You can find Luke's bio on www.chapter6.com

He sings lead on Bohemian Rhapsody on this one:

I've seen them perform and have been a fan of the group for a couple of years. Luke tried out for American Idol last year in Nashville. He made it to Randy, Paula, and Simon but didn't make it to Hollywood. Since they hadn't been showing him on Idol this year, I wasn't expecting to see him suddenly appear in the final 24! :woohoo:

Wow! That group is AWESOME!!! What a shame AI spent so much film on people no one will ever see again and not on this guy!

My favorite: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJl1RfO5DmU&feature=related:thumbsup2

That's what I always thought. He was (and is) popular and and talented on the show. But the people in charge were concerned about his marketing appeal. After all, it's a mostly pop/with some R&b based show, and the old contestants who did well in that, and only that. They wanted Kat or Taylor to win, to stay with what worked in the previous seasons. But after he got booted off, and there was that whole big deal about the voting and people accusing of it being rigged, people who didn't watch the show started listening to him. The 2 rock stations here in Vegas were ripping on him when he first got booted off, because he wasn't a 'real rocker' because he was on the heavy pop formated show. And once his CD came out and started doing well on the regular/adult rock stations and making huge sales, the harder rock stations started playing his songs too.

That's just how I see it and my opinion of course. I honestly think that he was the most talented on that season, and he should have won but TPTB did not want him to win. But I think not winning was the best thing for him. More people took him seriously, and he had more control of his music. And his fan base supported and promoted him, because they felt that he was wronged.

And it doesn't hurt that he's hot. :rolleyes1

Chris is insanely lucky that he lost! If he had won he'd have the American Idol image shadowing him everywhere he went and the AI producers would have complete control over his album. Every winner has complained about having to make a first album that had nothing to do with who they were as artists, it was all just commercial pop that the producers knew they could mass produce. Chris got exposure and media buzz on AI but was still able to do his own thing after the show and really prove himself :thumbsup2

Can somebody please tell me if the young kid who lived out of his car made it to the top 24? I missed a lot of Wednesday's show.

Thanks!

You will be pleased to know that he was only living out of his car because he chose to go follow his dream, he has the love and support of his family - his mom has a website, and well, I'll just post the link for those that want to know!!

His mom has cancer, and answers some emails, questions about her son...

Has this site been posted? I started to look earlier today, got distracted... so here it is now...

This page gives a background on the "TOP 7" and how many of them have record deals, etc... (the boy bands, etc...) interesting read for sure!!

You will hear A LOT about VFTW as the season goes on. They are instrumental in keeping some of the WORSE idols on for weeks. Last year they weren't as successful, but did keep our boy Sanjaya and ugh Antonella on for many more weeks than they should've.

Thanks. It's a great series.

I'll answer you both at the same time. I think she's the worst offender because she already had her chance, and given the biggest shot at it. And by chance, I'm not talking about her trying out for AI that year that she missed due to her visa. I'm talking about her chance at being signed to a major label, making a CD and getting lots of money spent on it. That's what AI is about, getting unknown people out there to the public, and them getting a chance to get signed to a label and make their music and live their dream. She had all that, and failed. Why should the the rest of the contestants who really are unknown miss the chance for that, just because the powers that be want a 'ringer' who's already done it all already? But that's just my opinion, and why I dislike it.

And by them forcing Carly on us, I mean her constant air time. They know that if we see the person more, like their voice, personality and story we'll start to root for them. Makes sense, that they show the singers that they want us to root for the most air time. But that doesn't mean that I have to like it. :rolleyes1

::yes:: Exactly!

So, they forced Sanjaya on us last time. He got BIG air time on every show. We heard every audtion, saw him with his sister, got his life story.... Paula loved him....yada yada yada. You'd think after that fiasco they stop with the featuring just a few and really try to make it even. I think Carly is a great singer but I'm looking foward to hearing what the others have in the way of talent. For the record, I have never voted nor has anyone in my immediate family. We DO own Daughtry's CD. It's great!

I was surprised that Josiah (the live in the car guy) didn't make the top 24 with the way they spent so much time on him. Heck they even spent a lot of time with him after he got booted off.

I will have to make sure I watch that episode just to look at him.

I like beating a point to death...so last nigt I said to DH "there's this thread on the DIs where a lot of folks are complaining about a certain Idol contestant being forced upon the audience...pimped, if you will. Who do you think they are talking about?"

He thought long and hard (has watched every episode with me) and then said "I can't imagine who. Maybe the kid in his car? Nobody is getting unfair coverage IMO...though a bunch of people I know nothing about seemed to have made it thorugh".

When I told him it was Carly, he was shocked.

Ditto here too. I never voted. Figured it'd be a pain in the :rolleyes1 due to the heavy load of callers....

Of the top 24, there are only a few that got more coverage than the others. Carly, David A, Amanda, Syesha(not as much off set, but we heard all her auditions) There are quite a few I never even heard sing, like Jason C.,Luke, Jason Y.,Garrett, Kristy, Kady, Alexandrea, and Alaina.

It does seem like they should do a show introducing the Top 24 and giving some clips of their auditions. That way people will have something to go on than just what happens the week you vote. The stories behind the people who have had some more airtime(Poor Carly, who lost her chance because of her visa, David A and how he's so young and so sweet and how he almost lost his voice, Amanda and her Harley riding/ RN ways, and Syesha and the loss of her father and then her voice) could cause people to have more of a connection with them. I also think viewers have a right to know who is a true amateur and who is not. I think being offered a recording contract or winning a national televised singing contest like Star Search should make you ineligible, but if it doesn't, I at least want to have that info so I can consider it when I compare contestants.

JMHO obviously.

Well, tonight's the night folks! It begins...

I couldn't be more excited. Totally tuning out all the nay-sayers and the whiners (so-and-so already HAD a record deal blah blah...even the Today Show was whining this morning). I don't care. I am ready for WEEKS of toe-tapping entertainment and drama. All the singers seem talented.

There are a couple I will be eye-balling, but my votes will go to those who wow me, regardless of their past, or how Idol or anyone else has pimped them.

MJ's blog has a really nice section featuring the 12 guys that are singing tonight. No spoilers, just a brief rundown of each contestant along with pictures.

I'm really anxious to hear the guys that we didn't hear during Hollywood week or the auditions. I hope those that had less air time than the rest don't suffer because of it, especially if they are good.

Great link!

I liked the ET interview that I found on there, too. Press Click to View.

Here's a really good article on Jason Castro who is from the Dallas area. It mentions why he didn't get any airtime even though his audition was one of the best according to Nigel Lithgow - AI producer - the song he sang wasn't cleared by whomever owned it so they couldn't show him singing it on TV - very interesting.
