I have seen suggestions to take $2 bills for tipping on board. What are these tips for? I thought the tips were added to the room bill at the end or dropped in envelopes (with values far higher than $2).

Sorry for the "stupid question"....

Thanks.... Paul

We used the $2 bills for tipping baggage handlers at the airport (this was when curbside check in was possible), bellman at hotels, room service, etc.

You will need cash to tip the porters at the cruise terminal and anyone who brings you room service food (there is no charge for the food and thus no place to add a gratuity).

Personally I would not go out of your way to get $2 bills, people look at them a bit funny. I would make it as easy as possible for the recipient to be able to spend what you give them and just use regular dollar bills. :)

I agree with WebmasterMichelle. I don't notice any enhanced reaction from the recipient, and they're difficult to get hold of in the first place... only a few branches of the large regional bank I do business with even bothers to stock them.

When I passed out the $2 bills and the new gold dollars there were a few people excited to get them. The others just took it like a regular tip.

My reactions were mixed - but never bad or disappointed.

I tried the gold dollars and $2 bills on one cruise, and all I got was either no reaction at all or funny looks! It was a pain to get these types of currency so I don't both anymore. The thing that DOES get a reaction is phone cards...not always, but when they do, it is very positive. I get the bulk packs from Sam's Club.
