That Pirate Stole My Tiara: The Pre-Trip Report

Ok, so the update is in the works, but as I was going through some of my pictures, I found the Neverending Hallway picture. (NOFalcor)

So, this picture was taken at the beginning of the hallway, right by the concierge desks in the Hawaii building. Our room was all the way down on the right by that small square of bright white light. ("Don't go into the light!)

DSCN0753-1.jpg

We ended up using those other doors to come and go as soon as we learned they were there.

I don't know which is giving me the heebie jeebies more, the Poltergeist light at the end of the hallway, or the endless Shining hallway itself.

Probably the Shining hallway. All it needs is a big wheel, and those those two freaky girls saying "Come Play with us Danny" and I'd be running from the hall screaming. :scared1:

Really though, that's one long hallway!

NoRedRum, right? :lmao:

And so our first full day of Disney Magic dawned.
Early.
Though not bright, not that I knew that yet.
Because when you pull those room drapes aaaallll the way shut, it's 2 a.m. 24 hours a day in there! It's a migraine sufferer's dream come true, as we would find out later in the week...or would we?

My internal alarm clock went off at 5 a.m. on the button, though I refused to get out of bed. Instead, I laid there drifting in and out of a light sleep and just being lazy until about 7 a.m. When my BF sent me a message that said, "Wake up, lazy."

There he was again, doing his little Vulcan Mind Meld thing, somehow just KNOWING I was being lazy. Jerk.

I got up and felt my way around the room for the clothes I'd left out the night before (yes, it was THAT dark) and spent a ridiculous amount of time enjoying the rain showerhead. Once I was clean and dressed, I grabbed my wristlet with camera in hand and slipped out of the room to let Missy enjoy a sleep in.

I stepped out to the warm and bright Florida sun.
Well.
It was warm. But it was not really bright and the sun was MIA.
Oh, and was it muggy.

I headed down to the beach to get a better look at the sky and decide if this was a "Hey, it's going to be 80 today and humidity is going to be 135%" kind of day or if the sky was truly ominous. Thankfully (kind of) it was the former. I had a great picture of exactly HOW gray it was but apparently Photobucket ate it. And belched. And didn't even cover it's mouth or say "Excuse me."

Satisfied that the weather gods weren't going to completely ruin our first day, I set off to do some exploring.

I was so very impressed with the landscaping at the resort. The flowers and plants were so beautiful and most of them "felt" Polynesian.

The architecture was pretty amazing as well, even down to the structures around the pool area.

The flora was amazing but the fauna wasn't lacking either. There were lots of bunnies out and about munching on the Disney grass that looks gorgeous but is about as comfortable to walk across in bare feet as hot coals. The lizards were out and about racing back and forth across the sidewalks doing whatever it is that lizards do when they aren't standing stock still in the middle of the walkway as if to say, "You CAN'T see me but DUDE DON'T step on me".

And the birds. Oh the birds.

Z, the Poly ducks told me to tell you the WL ducks said, "What up homey? Roll Tide."

There was one duck, floating around in the stream that runs from the GCH to the Volcano Pool that had something on his mind and wanted EVERYONE to know about it. And he was spot on for the voice of Donald Duck. Now, I know how ridiculous that might sound but have you ever listened to Donald and then listened to a real duck? There's quite a range of difference there. Not this little dude. Oh no. He sounded so much like that dear, pants-less, rage blinded friend of Mickey that I actually stopped and listened to him for quite some time.

He's not in the picture, but here was where he was doing all of his enraged quacking:

DSCN0536.jpg

As I headed closer to the GCH, Mr. Mighty Mad Water Fowl's yapping was eclipsed by all of these little dudes:
DSCN0519.jpg

See 'em up there? I'm not sure what type of birds they are but they reminded me of the Starlings that take over my parents' lawn in the Spring. They were all the way across the top of the GCH and they had a ton to say. I was actually thankful that we weren't staying in a building closer to the GCH because I imagine you'd have been able to hear them in the room!

It was quiet inside the GCH.

I was still trying to get a handle on the settings on my camera (more on that later) and so didn't take too many pictures, though I did LOVE this guy.

And of course a gratuitous light shot for LL:

And I decided I want these wall sculptures for our house:

Once I'd done enough wandering, I headed back to Hawaii and up to the Concierge Lounge to take some notes. The breakfast spread was great - 3 or 4 different kinds of cereals, bagels, croissants, cheese danish and a very light bread that reminded me very much of Portuguese sweetbread, which is simply NOMtastic. There were also a couple of different kinds of juices to choose from, including "Orange Guava" which, I found out later on, tastes exactly like the Lilikoi juice in Kona and O'hana. Only, it tastes better because it's free! I sat and relaxed for a bit and finally headed back to the room with a plate of breakfast goodies for Missy to choose from. It was about 9 a.m. and my inner commando was having it's first flippy fit of the day that it was 9 a.m. and we weren't yet in a park.

As I entered the room where it was perpetually 2 a.m., Missy said to me, "Good morning honey! Are we really in Disney World?!"

Up Next: You mean I need my room key to get INTO the park? Really? Hmm.

Awww, now you've gone and made me homesick!!!! One of those quiet pool shots has a nice view of Tokelau in the background!!

I love this whole relaxed description of your lovely morning. And how fun to come home to find Missy awake and ready (?) to explore the World!! (Bless you for giving her until 9:00. I would've left a note for her to meet me at the park.....)

Beautiful photos, BTW!

My one regret in reading this is that my B.F.A. is in Painting.

Because if I had been a Sculpture major, I would so offer to make you one of those hangings for your wall. By the by, I am totally a 2D artist. I don't know how Michelangelo did it. Beautiful sculptures and beautiful paintings? :::Sigh:::

I digress. I love your leisurely trip through the morning at Disney. It's a side of it I rarely get to see. I'll have to make a point to try it some time! :goodvibes

I just stared reading trip reports within the last couple days and I'm addicted lol. Can't wait to read about your WDW adventures popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Thank you, Tink, for capturing the early morning spirit of the Polynesian isles ;) -- what I mean to say is Fabby Update, dahling!!! I would love to have some of that hawaiian juice right now!

Yes, finally an update!

I loved your early morning stroll at the Poly. DH and I love the Poly, but unfortunately haven't stayed there (yet!). We do visit it often while we are in WDW. We absolutely love Kona Cafe and must eat a breakfast and a dinner there each trip. We also have to do the character breakfast at Ohana because DH is is a Stitch nut.

Looking forward to reading more soon!

Tink, the pictures are beautiful. They almost make me want to get up early and go wandering on my next vacation. Almost. I'll make due looking at your beautiful pictures. I know I'll never get my lazy butt out of bed.

I sent out the dogs.
They all came back empty-handed, er, empty-pawed. WHATEVER.
I'd given you up for lost!

I wondered who let the dogs out.

Even though I'm never wrong, I've never been so happy to be mistaken.

I thought I was wrong one time, but I was mistaken.

Seriously, my friend, glad you're here and not buried under some monolithic pile of Redwells and court documents.

The pile of pleadings has finally receded. Can a pile recede? I know a hair line can, but a pile? Now I'm not so sure.

All hail ZZUB, master of bodily functions.
Someone get that man a plaque.
And some toilet tissue.

Speaking of the man (or The Man) - I have 4 SEC Championship tickets, BAYBEE!!! And I don't even like BAMA. (that's not to say obama) ROLL TIDE!!

I love that you took pictures of the flora... something about Disney flowers makes me smile.

Sounds like a great morning! You accomplished a lot before 9am!! I love all the tiki pictures...they are so cute. You've only convinced me further that I MUST stay at the Poly one day!

Looking forward to more! :goodvibes

I've seen the title to your report a few times and finally decided I had to check it out. And of course finding it to be most nifty, and being unable to resist the power of a well crafterd TR, I have yet another thread to subscribe to. (I think I need to join Cody on his next trip to your therapist.)

The Poly is so beautiful! :cloud9: Some day maybe if I can find a rate that doesn't make DH go  .

I don't know which is giving me the heebie jeebies more, the Poltergeist light at the end of the hallway, or the endless Shining hallway itself.

Probably the Shining hallway.

Dude. You have no idea. Everytime I walked down that hallway by myself I had to force myself NOT to think about that movie.

NoRedRum, right? :lmao:

NORedRum!

One of those quiet pool shots has a nice view of Tokelau in the background!!

And could one of those Tokelau rooms have belonged to the AshClans?

And how fun to come home to find Missy awake and ready (?)

Hahaha! Not quite.
I'll get to that in the next chapter, but suffice it to say she greeted me in the dark, from her bed, under the covers.

Bless you for giving her until 9:00. I would've left a note for her to meet me at the park.....

I can't say that the thought never crossed my mind.
Because that's called LYING, boys and girls.

Because if I had been a Sculpture major, I would so offer to make you one of those hangings for your wall.

I'm getting us Play-Doh for Christmas. Because I was a tortured by multiple 3-D (NOMickey'sPhilharMagic) classes when I was an Architecture major. So, I think between the two of us, we can craft these sculptures.

I love your leisurely trip through the morning at Disney. It's a side of it I rarely get to see. I'll have to make a point to try it some time! :goodvibes

Such peace, that's all I'm gonna say.
And it's so good for the soul.
Ok, now I'm done saying stuff.
Mostly.

I just stared reading trip reports within the last couple days and I'm addicted lol. Can't wait to read about your WDW adventures popcorn:: popcorn:: popcorn::

Welcome!
There should be a TR support group.

Thank you, Tink, for capturing the early morning spirit of the Polynesian isles ;) -- what I mean to say is Fabby Update, dahling!!! I would love to have some of that hawaiian juice right now!

Mmmmm. The juice. I bought both Guava and Mango juice (in addition to the orange and cranberry normally stocked in our fridge) and I plan on making my own slightly modified version. :goodvibes

We absolutely love Kona Cafe and must eat a breakfast and a dinner there each trip.

We had breakfast there on our MGM day (which will be coming up immediately after I finish our Epicot day. Which, if Photobucket and my laptop decide to behave, just might get posted before we elect the next president.

Tink, the pictures are beautiful. They almost make me want to get up early and go wandering on my next vacation. Almost. I'll make due looking at your beautiful pictures. I know I'll never get my lazy butt out of bed.

:rotfl:

I bet it really wouldn't matter what time you got out to explore. Once the morning "rush" to the parks was over, it would probably be just as quiet, except for the pools. I really cherished my resort quiet time and enjoyed it every morning of our trip (and normally earlier than 7 a.m. - more on that as we go along).

I wondered who let the dogs out.

NOBahaMen

I thought I was wrong one time, but I was mistaken.

If I had a penny for ever time my BF has said this to me...
I'd probably have a couple bucks.

The pile of pleadings has finally receded. Can a pile recede?

I'm not sure. Ask me again in a few months after we've finished beating down, er, ahem, requesting our Senior Partners to get the 300+ rate increase notifications out to the clients that require them.

I know a hair line can

NOZ

Speaking of the man (or The Man) - I have 4 SEC Championship tickets, BAYBEE!!! And I don't even like BAMA. (that's not to say obama) ROLL TIDE!!

This girl loves her some football. I really do. But mostly NFL, not college. And somehow it has been determined (by the BF) that if I were to be a college fan, I'd be a Texas fan. BF is a Noles fan (or says he will be again once they fire that octogenarian coach they have). All that to say that I don't care much about college ball but pestered the BF all weekend to find out if Bama won because I was thinking of Z.

Awwww.

I love that you took pictures of the flora... something about Disney flowers makes me smile.

Right?! I think I have more but I'll post them as each day progresses. My morning "coffee walk" became more of a "flora/picture-taking" walk.

I love all the tiki pictures...they are so cute.

Believe me, I'm slightly tiki-obsessed now.

Thanks for the light shot! I love it, where was that exactly??

Ok. Ready?
Enter the Poly from the, well, entrance.
Turn right, to the front desk.
The wall heading down after the desk (towards the elevator) is mirrored.
The lights are on those walls. I may have a better picture but Photobucket and I are on a mutually agreed upon hiatus today.

I've seen the title to your report a few times and finally decided I had to check it out. Well, hello! I've seen you over on Z's incessant cake-ramblings, no? ;)
Glad to have you hear and glad you're enjoying the report!

Now really, you must tell me, where did the screenname come from? Because that avatar looks delish.

The Poly is so beautiful! :cloud9: Some day maybe if I can find a rate that doesn't make DH go  .

::ahem::
Dear Mr. askelton,
You simply MUST take the missus to the Poly.
Tinkerbellarella says so.
The rate makes no nevermind.
Your wifey is lovely and you both deserve it.
Sincerely,
Tinkerbellarella

Working on the text of the next update folks! Stay tuned!

:flower3:

Bobby Bowden's never going to retire! :rolleyes1

Thank you. I am forwarding this to him immediately! :thumbsup2

I was so very impressed with the landscaping at the resort. The flowers and plants were so beautiful and most of them "felt" Polynesian.
Funny thing is, most of the plantings at the Poly are exactly the same as what surrounds my house, office, grocery store, entire neighborhood, really. But they look SOOOO much more tropical to me at the Poly! :rotfl:

~sigh~

I miss that place. :sad1:

Now really, you must tell me, where did the screenname come from? Because that avatar looks delish.
It was a "cleaned up" explicative I bellowed forth one day in a moment of pain, and it immediately became my college nickname. (Full story is somewhere on Zzub's Battle V TR)
