Thursday, May 12th cont.

When we last left off, Maya's name had just been called for Pick a Pearl.

DSCN0550.jpg

I held Maya up to the counter while taking pictures.

DSCN0552.jpg

She picked an ugly oyster and the ceremony started. The CM gave a whole speil, but i'll be honest. I had a hard time with her accent. I'm going to say she was telling us about the history of pearls:rotfl2:

DSCN0553.jpg

DSCN0555.jpg

DSCN0556.jpg

Maya was really enjoying the attention. They counted together when it was time to open the oyster.

DSCN0557.jpg

DSCN0558.jpg

Then the lady made a face. I thought she was going to tell her it was empty and she needed to pick another. But I was wrong- she said it was a blue pearl!

DSCN0560.jpg

Only 5% are blue! Maya smiled while the whole room clapped. Other shoppers asked her how she knew that oyster was a special one. The CM cleaned it off and measured it- 7.25! After a few beats of the drum, the ceremony was over.

DSCN0561.jpg

I then pulled the surprise Cinderella's coach cage out and placed the pearl in it. It barely fit! You have to take the cage off the chain to get the pearl out, so we agreed to let Maya wear it.

We headed to Italy for our Kim Possible mission. On the way we stopped and listened to the Fife and Drum (is that the name?) in America.

We were assigned Japan, so we turned around and headed back. :rotfl: Maya took her mission quite seriously. She was first told to find a quiet spot, and we followed her in circles while she found the "perfect" place. She listened very intently and followed all commands in her effort to save the world.

James was not amused by the fact that he was too small to take part.

I didn't take too many pictures because I didn't know what the rules were on this. and most that i did take were completely unrelated.

She had almost completed the mission when she told me she wished she had never done this. I asked her why and she said because she liked it better before she knew there were bad guys in Disney. :scared1: Whoops. We explained to her that because of her bravery there were no longer any bad guys. She had saved everyone in Disney from them. She then was quite proud of herself!

We listened to the drummers in Japan before continuing our way through World Showcase.

By this point, we were definitely walking to get from point A to point B. We were still hot, and wanted to have plenty of time to use our fastpasses before our dinner ADR.

No way our Rapunzel loving princess would let us pass this up though. (And my kids had sunglasses, but apparently they only like to wear them in the house:goodvibes)

DSCN0572.jpg

And just because I loved this topiary...

DSCN0574.jpg

We made one last stop in the World Showcase on our way out... character time!

Thurs May 12th cont.

Mulan was not out, but her handler was there and said she would be out soon. The line was short, so Chris and the kids jumped in line. I went off to find drinks. China was full of frozen tea drinks, so I went back to I think Africa. Once again, icees sounded perfect on this 95+ degree day. I picked coke for James and I, lemonade for Chris, and strawberry for Maya. They were some of the best icees ever! We used 4 snack credits, but they would have been about $4 each.

By the time I got back the line was moving. Maya and Mulan chatted, and then she came to James to chat with him.

We stopped for another sunscreen application and then went to the Land Pavillion. Maya said she wanted to ride with momma first, so Chris took James to ride The Land. Maya and I headed to Soarin to use our fastpasses.

About that time I realized we forgot to do babyswap for the second day in a row! Our second set of fastpasses wasn't good yet, so Maya and I hustled back to The Land ride. But we were too late; we had barely missed them. We decided we would ride also- there was no wait and we would only be a minute behind the boys.

It was very interesting to see the different things they were growing and the unique ways they were doing so. Maya's favorite thing was the dragonfruit. When she was sick she picked out a dragonfruit vitamin water. All I heard about the past week was her dragon gatorator drink. She was so excited to see the fruit it was made from.

Chris gave me quite a glare when we walked up behind them and told them we had not ridden Soarin yet.

Maya and I went first. It still gets me how real it feels. If I had motion sickness I might not be able to ride. I love the fact that I feel like I need to pick up my feet to keep from kicking the trees or the boaters.

After another potty break, Maya went back to ride with Chris. The fastpasses were out for the day, so James and I used them to play peek- a-boo.

When he grew tired if that, he made up his own game. I'm not sure what I'd name it if I had to give it a name. Maybe- I'll read you the rules and you'll chase me before I give you a concert? First he would race from the fastpass machines to the sign that explained Soarin. Then he would race back. Then he would race over to the corner, lean over towards the wall outlet, and scream a few words as if it were a microphone, and start all over. It was hilarious and entertained him for quite some time.

Again we found ourselves with not enough time for Test Track but more than enough time to make it to our ADR. We decided to stop by Mexico on our way to dinner.

You have to go through the shop to get to Donald's boat ride. James caught eye of the maracas. He was not leaving without one. It was the first souvenir he really took interest in all week, so we let him get one with his giftcard. Plus, it is one of the souvenirs I remember purchasing as a child. The small one was 3.95.

DSCN1816.jpg

We stopped for a quick restroom break and headed to Norway for a Royal dinner.

Oh picking a pearl in Japan is SO fun!!!! We had such a fun time doing it last year! My daughter picked a pink pearl, but the blue one is amazing!!!!

We haven't done KP missions yet, but we are looking forward to it this trip! :thumbsup2

Oooo I am excited for your royal dinner! :surfweb:

How exciting that your kids are getting to those height milestones!! Colby is getting close to the 40 inches as well, but he won't be there by this next trip. I like your idea, though, it just means we will need another trip when he IS tall enough!!!

It looks like James had a great time waiting for his dad and sister to get off Soarin! It sounds like you all had a great afternoon at Epcot!

Well, I'd be more than willing to give up James' height milestone in order to move our next trip as soon as yours! Right now ours is tentatively scheduled for Oct 2013. It's only been 2 months and I don't know how I'll make it that long!

James did have a great time waiting! I'm glad my time to wait with him was llast; I'm not sure if Chris would have let him run around in there. He wasn't in anyone's way though!

I just measured Caitlin a few days ago and she is 47" too. I swear she was a lot short during our May trip:confused3 It will be so nice when she can finally hit all the waterslides that have the 48" limit.

Only a few more inches until James can ride some fun stuff. He looks so miserable while Maya does the KM mission. He deserves a trip as soon as he hits the 40 line.

We are thinking of trying Akershus for dinner next time so I can't wait to read about it.

:scared1:Yikes! That is a LONG time to wait for another WDW trip!!! We are TTC #2 (hoping for a spring/summer baby) and have 4 weddings in the next year, including 2 next summer that DH and I are both in...so we might have to skip our annual trip next summer...so our next trip might not be until 2013 as well. :sad1:

That being said, I am not thinking about that yet. Less than a month!!! :woohoo:

I love that blue pearl! Pick a pearl looks like so much fun. Maybe I'll do that on our next trip. I'm sure it's not just for kids, right?

If you don't mind, I'd be interested in knowing how James does at Winnie the Pooh. Carter's been staring at the previews and I thought he might be ready for his first theater movie.

We have a Le Cellier ADR in October that I'm super excited about it, so I loved reading about your meal there. We'll probably skip dessert, but I thought the s'mores looked fun.

I think Maya was shorter. In fact, she just skipped totally over some jeans i had bought early on clearance. maybe by the time we get back there Maya will be willing to ride the bigger waterslides.

poor James was miserable at that point. he was getting a little jealous while Maya was doing her Pearl, so by this point he was over it. and tired. we cheered him up very soon afterwards though!

akersus coming soon for you!

oh man, Maya would FLIP over a pink pearl! Kp was fun, we'll probably do more next trip.

Akersus was pretty fun!

Wow, awesome pearl!

She loves her special Pearl!

well, dh has a hard time spending money, and we need to upgrade a car soon.
plus, i think i'd rather choose seeing fantasyland completed than in the middle if i had to choose one or the other. so i'm just trying to be realistic. however, after our 09 trip we said our next trip would be when James was 40 inches, so maybe the future one will move up too.

There were quite a few adults doing the pearl. in fact i didn't see any other kids doing it while we were there. i don't think there is any age it's best for:thumbsup2

the desserts were pretty at Le Cellier, but they didn't make my top three. I'd save your sugar allotment for other places

i'll put a separate Pooh post up here momentarily.

We took James and Maya to see Winnie the Pooh this week. It was James' first movie, and he is a HUGE fan of Pooh and all his friends.

We decided to try this because he is starting to sit down and watch a cartoon or part of a movie with Maya.

The movie itself was a total of 70 minutes. That included almost 20 minutes in previews. We sat down about 10 minutes before the movie was slated to start, with a shared family snack of popcorn and m&m's.

He loved seeing all his favorites on the screen, starting with a picture of Mickey and a picture of the castle of course. He pointed out Pooh and Tigger, etc for a while, and then settled in with his snack.

About 10 minutes before the movie was over, he started getting a bit restless. luckily the theater wasn't packed so we just let him watch the end standing in between us all. But if we had come right as the movie started, or even a few minutes into the previews, i think he would have been fine seated for the entire movie.

It was really cute, and a great first movie for his age, i think. I'm sure it will show up under our Christmas tree this year. I'm not going to rush to take James to another movie, but wouldn't hesitate if something as appropriate for him as Pooh is comes out soon.

Maya had to take a picture here LOL

I love the pick a pearl update. I got the cinderella pearl cage and want to do pick a pearl in November when I'm there.
The pic of James sulking because he can't do the Kim possible mission is to cute.

Luvin James's Winnie the pooh t-shirt.
Is that an advertisement for a new Smurfs movie Maya is standing in front of?

I am totally with you on DH not wanting to spend money!! My DH is an accountant and is playing with the budget on Quicken multiple times a day...oye...

Good point about fantasyland! I will try to remember that if I have to wait that long for my next trip as well!

I'm glad James did so well at Pooh! Colby is just getting into Pooh a little more. Grandma wants to take him to see the movie. I think if we go pretty early in the day it won't be so crowded and Colby can walk up and down the row a little. I'm excited...it looks so cute!

Yes, the pearl was fun and looked so pretty in the cage. The whole process, with wait time, etc, took longer than i was expecting, so leave yourself plenty of time.

Poor James, LOL. we tried so hard to do things for him as much as we could. it just gets hard when he can't speak and Maya does nothing but speak :rotfl2:

yes, its a new Smurf's movie coming out soon!

I got each of the kids one special shirt for our Disney trip. i couldn't find anything pooh for james, so i had that one made. she did a great job on it!

i think Pooh was a great choice. It made me long for my youth a bit as well. I can skip most of the remakes- it seems that the thing to do lately is to make cartoons into half reallife and half cartoon movies, and that drives me nuts. i really appreciated the animation in this one.
(ok, the upcoming muppets movie doesn't drive me nuts with people in it, but that's how it was when i was younger too. but things like the smurfs, garfield- those are suppoed to be animated.)

the whole reason our disney trip ended up moving up this time was this. Chris was dying for a vacation. i priced out a few options for beach trips of under a week. between flying, activities, and a realtaively inexpensive hotel, the prie rivaled Disney. I priced out a few trips at other theme parks. James and Maya were very limited in what they could do. He said, fine, book at Disney, it makes the most sense. and i didn't wit for him to change his mind

I'm leaving two days and prob an evening for Epcot because we've never done it properly before.. We've only ever walked around and I think we did Nemo once. Last year we explored Mexico properly so we really need to explore it all properly.

Aw poor James! That picture is still to cute.

Cannot wait for Smurfs movie didn't know they were releasing one. I used to love them when I was little! :goodvibes

i think we took a good hour or so in that shop alone. i wish my dh liked epcot better so we could truly explore it. i think i may use your idea- explore one or two pavillions the right way each trip.

they recently added a channel to our basic cable here and it has the smurfs playing sometimes. Now Maya is super excited about the movie!

Wonderful updates! I have missed so much, but am finally caught up!.:cool1:
I so wanted to try Club Cool this year. Dh had other ideas.....:sad2:
I LOVED the blue pearl. The Japan pick a pearl is so much fun. DD did it in '09 and got a pink pearl. She loved it!
James is so funny, barking like a dog while on his 'leash'. I am with you about letting hubby chase after him if he didn't like the idea in the first place. I really enjoyed the pic of James handing his autograph book to Mary Poppins. So adorable! :cloud9:
Le Cellar looked so delish. The pretzel bread with using the cheese soup as a dip sounds wonderful. I know I am missing commenting on something. Well, anyway, loved your updates like always!!! popcorn::

Oh yeah, I just remembered. The pics of James at the Pooh movie were so cute!!! Glad he was able to sit through most of it. :thumbsup2
