That Disney Drinking Water

So, quick question. We are planning on taking our Brita filtered water bottles with us on our trip, but my dad seems to think that there will be filtered water stations throughout the park, or wherever we have to refill our water bottles will have filtered water. I am under the impression that there aren't "water stations" that are stationed with filtered water, as it will more likely be like water fountains and stuff, with just regular tap water. Will there be options for filtered water? Granted we will have our water bottles, just basically trying to take in account the "quality" (taste) of the water from wherever we get it.

Your best option for filtered water will be counter service dining locations. Just walk up and ask for cups of water, which they will give you for free. You could then pour those cups into your bottles if you wanted to. The regular unfiltered Florida water is pretty nasty, IMHO.

Agree with everything but the last sentence.

I think Disney filters the water in the water fountains. It's never tasted like regular Florida water to me.

Filling your own bottles will mostly be drinking fountains and sinks, except at the resorts where you can access the water option on the soda machine even without an RFID mug. In the parks, asking for free water from the counter service locations is your best bet because that water is filtered. I can't stand the taste of FL water and while the Brita bottle helps I still prefer the (cold!) pre-filtered water from counter service restaurants over refilling my bottle from a drinking fountain.

Water fountains aren't filtered they are just hooked up to the potable water supply. I knew a maintenance worker there and asked him about it. To filter all the water fountains would take a huge filtering facility and then each fountain would have to be hooked up with a dedicated supply.Fountains with filters in them at best last up to about 1000 water bottle refills. I was in charge of maintenance at a large facility and kept track of how often we had to change them. With the amount of people at MK that would be a maintenance nightmare.

The water fountain water tastes fine while it's cold. I think all of the fountains I used were refrigerated. However, once the water gets even remotely warmer, it started tasting really bad to me. I think the tap water at the TS and CS tasted much better; however, I think I always had it cold. It's not like Universal, where there are Coke Freestyle machines to use. A few of the CS, like Backlot Express in DHS, have soda stations accessible to guests, so you can fill with water there.

The correct answer is that there is- or up until recently were a few older water fountains in MK that were unfiltered, but most are filtered. The actual water is decent quality (in terms of overall quality) , but some folks don't like the taste.

As others have said, free water from QS is an option. I personally find FL tastes best when ice cold, but I will drink it at room temp in a pinch. Getting dehydrated is a much bigger concern, IMO.

As another poster pointed out, US now has multiple Coke Freestyle stations, which dispense super water: cold, free, no line. the trouble with getting ice water at the CS is that is usually takes more time than I want to spend getting water. We do get ice water cups with every meal.

Oh, one thing to know about bottled water....many brands are nothing more than filtered FL water! If you want spring water from outside FL, you really have to read the labels!

Then again, there was just a super episode of Nova on sinkholes that talks all about the Florida aquifer. Central FL is a prime area for sinkholes!

The water tastes bad. Period. I can't comment on filtered/unfiltered. I went to several places throughout the parks--counters, fountains, etc. and it all tasted the same. Bring your Brita bottles if you plan to drink the free water in the parks.

I heard about bad tasting water before we went, but I didn't notice it at all, and I'm used to drinking stupidly high quality tap water at home (our tap water is better quality than bottled water where we are).

I preferred the water from QS stations, as I prefer to drink my water very cold, but had no issues with the water fountain water when I needed it: staying hydrated is so important to me, as I feel very unwell if I don't. I found a good combination was getting the free ice water, drinking all I could, topping up my water bottle with what was left (including the ice) and then filling the difference with the water fountain :) I just used a normal plastic bottle: no fancy filters for me. No problems at all.

All the water in Disney will taste and smell sulfurous. Even the water from the counter service. Take the Brita filters if it will be an issue for you.

I agree with this. The water out of the fountains is very bad. It has the sulfur taste/smell. I also think the water in the MK area has an iron taste. A few trips back I got an ice water from a CS place. I took a drink without running it thru my Brita bottle, thinking it would be OK because I assumed it was filtered. It was bad too, not as bad as a fountain, but I could still taste the sulfur. I will admit tho I have sensitive taste buds when it comes to water. For whatever reason I can taste even small amounts of chemicals that other people do not.

I've also heard of people bringing in crystal light (or off-brand) of individual packets and put that in the water (both from qs stations and from the water fountains). I don't know what kind of water bottle you are bringing since you have a britta filter so this information may not apply to you but thought I would put it out there.

The water tastes pretty bad. But when you're melting from the heat, and see those cups of water lined up on the counter of a QS restaurant, it goes down alright enough for me! Otherwise, taking these cups of water and pouring them into your Brita filter will do the job you're looking for.

Any counter service with a fountain drink dispenser has filtered water. If it's out in the public area just walk up and fill your bottle with ice and water which work without the RFID tag. All the resort food courts have this as well as at least one CS location in every park (some have more than one). I've carried my refillable water bottle in the parks for the last few years and except for a couple of places have had wonderful water. Beware any where that has prefilled cups it's usually fine but every once in a while you get a hold of bad water. I can tell the difference, it's not un-drinkable but it has a distinctive taste. Obviously they prefilled them from the tap. So if they hand me a prefilled I always taste it before I add it to my bottle. I drink a ton of water so paying for bottles was a big budget suck.
