Hi :cloud9:

We will be on holiday in Orlando over the Thanksgiving period,I assume that will be a extra busy time so good idea to avoid the parks? Any suggestions for alternatives?

Many Thanks

Well shopping is a good one, because their 'January sales' tend to start the day after Thanksgiving. The only problem is the shops will be crowded too (but in my experience, the US version of crowded is probably less people than a normal Saturday in this country).

actually the sales often begin on and before Turkey day....

when you say that you'll be in orlando over the holiday period, what exactly do you mean? which days?...
because the entire weekend might be busy, so i doubt you'd want to forego the parks for the entire time..

i would think that thanksgiving day itself might not be too bad in the parks since the locals are probably at home, eating turkey and watching parades on tv.....

 thanks for the tips. we are away in florida from nov 21st until dec 12th.   I am getting excited about the trip last time there was in 1995. lots of new things to see.Son in law has never been to america let alone orlando.he has visited parks in britain(he comes from south africa) I can,t wait to see his face when he sees disney etc. :cheer2:

My first trip was back in 1994 and we were there over the Thanksgiving period. We didn't know about it until we got there (pre Disboards days !)

The parks got busier and busier in the days running up to the Thursday, I remember being at Universal and having to queue up the full area of Jaws. We just went to the beach on the Thursday to escape the crowds which was great.

The crowds dropped off considerably after the weekend. We went back to Universal and walked straight on to Jaws just a couple of days later.

You could go and do an airboat ride at Boggy Creek or go somewhere like Seaworld or the Kennedy Space Centre which probably won't be as busy as Disney and Universal. Shopping is always a good option of course (although I would wait for the sales straight after). You can also do things like parasailing on Seven Seas Lagoon which is something I want to try on my next trip.

I'm sure you will be having fun whatever you decide on :earsboy:

Thanksgiving week is very busy due to families meeting up the week after is pure bliss however.

We have a thanksgiving "tradition" when we are out for it, watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade on the TV with LOTS of beer, then a (pre booked) Turkey meal at a restaraunt, then back for the Cowboys football match on the TV and...more beer! (Hic!)
(Its just like Christmas, but with parades) :)

It will be quite busy but dont avoid the parks completely as there is a really good atmosphere on those days and often there are extra things going on as well.

That sounds like a plan Obi. Especially the MAcy Day parade. Last year we just had a lazy day, had a drive in the afternoon then went for a turkey dinner.
