Thanksgiving Week @ WDW

We loved it. I recant what others have said about the crowds...thanksgiving day we stayed out of parks (planned a full day at fortwilderness - just hanging out and driving around in a golf cart - after going to Mickeys BBQ for our Thanksgiving meal)

I was shocked at how dramatically the crowds reduced after Thanksgiving weekend. The Unofficial Guide mentioned we would go from a '7' crowd index (highest being 10) down to a '1' the following monday and they were right!
Which is why this year - (YES we are going back) We are planning to arrive Thanksgiving day...and stay for 10 days extending AFTER the holiday.

We are also renting a villa offsite....because we bought into the 'needing the constant magic' line for our first trip - and as Ive posted before...the cramped buses didnt feel too magical to me on some days...We stayed at POR..and although you could get on a bus and have it be totally empty...the drivers inevitably drove around and filled the busses to MAX capacity...which with two small children just was doable...but didnt feel 'vacation-like' to me....I want to be pampered on my vacay ..If I want to be cramped on a bus I can do that at home.

Aside from the dumb busses...we really did have a marvelous time.

We have not been to the MVMCP on Sunday night. I would be curious to also hear from anyone who has been. I know Thursday night was much more crowded than Tuesday night but we learned that Disney offered cast members tickets to make sure that the crowd wasn't too small.

And, we always start planning for the next trip when we return from our Thanksgiving trip. We've had our initial ressies for about a month now. And, with ADRs being taken 6 months out, one has to be even more proactive these days.

We went to this parade last year - on a monday.
It was crowded - but not as crowded as I expected it to be.

I think if you go during a holiday you have to go with the attitude that if we are not having fun - we will just split. I have to say - for the money - getting ready to DUCK - I probably would not do MVMCP again. The kids really were like "and?"

That is what we are planning on doing this year. We will arrive the Sunday after Thanksgiving and stay for the week. How are the crowds and weather then? Sounds like you have a good time that week.

IMO there really isn't a crowd at all starting on Sunday. I mean walk right on rides with no wait. I have had all different kinds of weather during this time, ranging from last year the first weekend it was 85 during the day and still very warm at night to being semi warm during the day to wearing pants and two sweatshirts at night for the MVMCP. For the most part it has been shorts, tshirts for the day and bring a sweatshirt for at night. But remember I'm from upstate NY and when we leave, we usually have snow. Considering the past 2 years we have woke up to snowstorms. That's why everyone can tell we are from up north!!!! :rotfl2: I try to get the most out of the warm weather that I can. We also use the pools and try to get to the water parks at least once during our trip. And it usually rains at least one day while we are there. To everyone that is going during this time...I hope that you have a magical vacation. And I will be getting lime green Mickey paint chips from Home Depot for my backpack, so if you see me say "Hi"!!!!!! pixiedust: :tink:
