I know that this is pretty much a no brainer but ...our last 2 trips have been the week after thanksgiviing and we have had a wonderful time. This year I was thinking about going the week of for a couple of reasons:

Miss less school. Now that both of our 2 oldest will be in Middle school they would only miss 1 1/2 days vs. 4. And our other two will be in K and 1st. so overall less make up work. Plus the 1 1/2 days they will miss nothing anyway!

Less sub planning:
On our previous trips, I taught reading part time so I never had a sub to plan for and I just took the time. This year I transferred to a full time Pre K position - lots more work and lots of planning for a sub for 4 days!

Time to relax when we get back: If we went the week of we would get back on Sunday and we still have the Monday off. If we go our usual week we will go right back to school the next Monday.

So, tell me... Is it worth these reasons to fight the crowds I hear about Thanksgiving week or should we stay with our usual time frame? DH is not at all for Thanksgiving week and my parents don't care - they will be retired by then!

I know that this is pretty much a no brainer but ...

You said it. I'd go the week after Thanksgiving in a heartbeat, and I'm a teacher. It'll take you an hour or two to plan for the sub. You'll spend more than that waiting to get on Splash Mountain.

I really want to go the week after but I just think of all the things that would make life easier to go the week of, less homework, less planning and thus less chaos when I get back to my classroom, more time to rest before going back to work. AHHHH!! I know we will probably end up going the week after but I still have this in the back of my mind. Although I did like the Splash Mt comparison! We have been so lucky to go on low crowd weeks that I know we would probably be miserable the week of but just a thought!

I'd definitely choose to stick with the week after. Thanksgiving week is one of the busiest times of the year at WDW, and the prices will reflect that.

The week after will be much less crowded

but

we went this past Thanksgiving (2007) and had an absolutely perfect trip (I mean there wasn't one single non wonderful moment of the entire nine days). It was our first family trip to Disney, and the first time my dh and I had been in 11 years (so we were basically newbies). Using the DIS and TourguideMike, we didn't stand in line for anything more than 15 minutes, and we pretty much rode everything in every park, saw almost every show and rode many of the big rides multiple times. We also were on the dining plan, so did a lot of table service restaurants.

The week after will be less crowded and probably cheaper, but I just wanted to let you know that it is possible to go the week of Thanksgiving and have a great time. It just took a lot of planning.

We went this past Thanksgiving(2007). I hope to never go back the week of a holiday again. We had an absolutley wonderful time. Or should I say My youngest(8 at the time) and I did. I can't speak for my husband and my oldest(20) It was just too crowded. Wonderful weather. No rain. Just a little mist on Thanksgiving day while at AK. I say go the week after. Less crowds. Have fun when ever you go and tell us all about it. I am ready to go back now just no MONEY!:sad2:
