We are thinking about taking a trip to the world Thanksgiving 2008. We are planning to use our points at the Grand Floridian. Staying Wednesday to Monday afternoon. We really just want to see the Christmas decorations again. I am a teacher going back to work. We have been able to visit during the slower weeks in December since I have been home with the babies, but no more of that. We have done the party twice and loved it! We just love being there with all of the holiday decorations. So what do we need to know if we want to go for Thanksgiving?

Crowds are terrible?
Mickey Christmas Party? Which night??
Where to dine on the holiday?
What else?

Any information would be great!

I notice that no one responded to your question. I think if you ask it over on the Theme Parks board you will get the answers you are looking for. Unfortunately, I can't help you too much since I've never visited during Thanksgiving. Good luck! :)

We were there last Thanksgiving and had a great time, thinks to keep in mind since you normally go during slower periods:

1. Expect it to be busy, be flexible on what you plan to do (or which park) you plan to do on any given day. Plan on going more for the decorations, and people watching then for "camando style" riding.

2. Make reservations for dinner at the 180 day window so your able to eat where you want to. We ate a late thanksgiving dinner at the Liberty Tree Tavern (think around 7:30). Great place to eat. Did not visit the parks during the day. DS#1 worked, DS#2 & hubby golfed, DS3# & I had a relaxing morning then went to DTD for a little bit. We arrived at MK around 6pm since we had read it was crazy and were not planning on getting on too many rides (we did manage to fit in PoC, Thunder Mountain & splash Mountain- not one of our brightest moves since it was cold & DS#3 & Hubby got soaked and we had to leave after dinner). Our plan was to try a ride or two, eat dinner, people watch maybe try to get on one or two more rides, enjoy the parade and fireworks and had out.

We left WDW on Friday for a three night cruise - returned on Monday for a day or two but were told by many of the cm's that the parks were dead the Saturday after thanksgiving.

I loved this holiday at WDW and plan on doing it quite often in the future, but next time with an extended stay the following week to enjoy the parks without the crowds but with all the holiday atmosphere.

3. Be prepared for varing weather. It was so cold just before thanksgiving that it snowed in parts of northern florida. When we returned to WDW after the cruise it was 85 out. So bring plently of clothes that you can layer.

3. Decorations were up, the MVMCP had been held since at least mid November and the lights at MGM were on the Monday after Thanksgiving.
