I haven't had much chance to use my camera lately so I made it a point to take some shots while preparing our Thanksgiving meal. I also used it as a way to experiment with my Vivitar screw-mount 55mm F2.8 1:1 macro lens that I don't use too often, and also to experiment with flash. Since the screw-mount naturally transfers no data to the camera (and you're shooting in M mode), you need to manually set the flash. I'm pretty happy with the results, not too shabby for a lens that cost me about $60. :)

Preparing the brine for the turkey...

One bird, fresh from the oven.

Playing with the macro ability a little.

Finally, one of the best things about hosting Transgiving - you get the leftovers! One of my favorites is my Thanksgiving sandwich - turkey, mashes potatoes, stuffing, and gravy on a big wheat bun! Yummmmmmmmmmm!

I hope everyone else had a good Thanksgiving and is enjoying their leftovers!

I am SOOO with you on this one. We didn't have a big turkey and not a lot of leftovers, so I made sure I had a turkey, stuffing, mashed potato and gravy sandwich for breakfast yesturday. Only thing I didn't have is the big wheat bun. That certainly would make it perfect!

My question of the day to most everyone I talked to while working today was.... "How were your leftovers yesturday?" Most people agreed that the leftovers are awesome!

yumm, the brine looks good, i usually brine stuff i am going to cook in the smoker but not the oven but i'm going to try it next time i make a turkey( which will be soon given the fact they were 29 cents a lb:lmao: ) btw the sandwich looks great too but i have to disagree, imo 2 sandwiches that have to be on squishy white wonder type bread( nostalgia and all)....left over turkey with mayo and fresh tomato with salt and pepper

We were at AK on turkey day. It looks like the humans were not the only ones craving a bird! This guy was probably about 2-3 seconds from being lunch when he noticed the croc closing in and moved to a safe distance.

No leftovers for us b/c we had dinner at the Trail's End at FW. It was a traditional Thanksgiving menu for that day only and was very good. Sorry, I was too hungry to think about taking pics!

No Wonder white for me... bleah! :rotfl: I already remember a line from Mad Magazine, "Wonder Bread, kills strong bodies 8 ways!" (A take-off from an old catchphrase for it.) The Thanksgiving sandwich is unhealthy enough already. :lmao:

I just finished the last of the sandwiches tonight... now just a few bits of turkey left, guess I'll have to go for a more normal turkey sandwich now, or just eat it cold! Still not a bad way to go...

And I definitely recommend brining, it's very effective - but it can also be a curse. We did it last year, and instead of the usual switching annually between hosting at our house and my wife's parent's house, they decided that it was so good that we had to host it again this year. :rotfl2:
