Thanksgiving Dinner for picky eaters

We returned a few weeks ago from a wonderful trip to WDW over Thanksgiving. We stayed at VWL and planned to spend Thanksgiving day at the Resort so I booked Thanksgiving dinner at Whispering Canyon Cafe. Well my husband and I thought the meal was delicious but my kids did not want to eat anything in the skillet. Skillet had turkey, ham and chicken as well as potatoes, stuffing, sweet potatoes and green beans (which were covered in some kind of sauce). Also delicious salad was served with corn bread. Eventually they ate some of the ham but there were no other choices available.

Preparing for next years trip and figured I would ask while fresh in everyone's memory. Is there any restaurants on property but not in a park that had some kid friendly options? I was thinking a buffet might be better for them next year but one child will be 10 and I would hate to pay for an adult if he will only eat mac n cheese. Any advice you can give is much appreciated.

Well what do they eat at home for Thanksgiving?

I usually make some side dishes that I know they will eat. They enjoy your basic sweet potato but not candied. Also they eat lots of veggies but not crazy about sauces (like what was on the string beans at WCC). They like string beans, peas, carrots or corn.

Is that the only thing that was available at WCC on Thanksgiving?

I didn't know how that worked but we ate at Flying Fish on Christmas last year and while they had a special holiday menu, I'm about 99% sure the regular menu was available as well -- because my DH ordered a meal that is on the regular menu.

I'm just surprised that that was the only choice in the whole restaurant, but perhaps that's how they do it on Thanksgiving.

We ate at WCC for Thanksgiving this year also...And the kids had chicken nuggets, french fries and a fresh baked cookie...We asked the server as soon as we sat down and she said not a problem in a heart beat...The food came and they ate it up as well had our traditional meal...

You just have to ask

Wow I wish I had your server. Our ressie was for 4 pm and I did ask as soon as we sat down. She told me there was no alternative and the only option they had for changing the dessert from pumpkin pie was ice cream. I guess it is the luck of the draw.

Anyone have any other ideas for locations with picky eaters for next year?

If you're gonna be back at VWL, you might want to check out Trails End buffet at FW. Just a quick boat or bus ride away, and they typically have lots of kid friendly options.

I know that the buffets offer both the traditional Thanksgiving menu items as well as some kid friendly ones. That seems the best idea for pickier eaters of all ages.
