Thanksgiving Booking

We are in the process off purchasing DVC via resale thru TSS. We have passed ROFR and are awaiting closing docs. I realize that it may not be until May when we can finally book but based on previous years does anyone have a guesstimate as to if any 1 or 2 bedroom villas would be available to book at any DVC resort for Thanksgiving week?

SSR will likely be open if you can reserve in May and chance for AKV Kidani and OKW. Unlikely for anything else except a small chance for a 1BR somewhere.

I plan on making my first DVC trip down Thanksgiving week, and will be making the reservation on the first day of the 7 month window. Would I be better off doing it myself online or calling in and letting Disney make it? Which resorts would I have my best chance of booking a 2 bedroom.

You shouldn't wait until the 7th month mark if your points are loaded and available before that. Book your home resort immediately and move if there is something available @ 7 months.
Booking on-line is very easy but you can call if you have questions or feel more comfortable.

My home resort is Grand Floridian and when I secured my points in February it was already to late to get into Grand Floridian with the number of points that I have on my account, I will just have to take my chances at the 7 month point.

Purchasing direct for VGF, one of the advantages is that your guide will usually set up your first reservation for you. They can pull rooms from inventory not available for general DVC booking. I'd call them today and get them to book for you at VGF. This only works once-they won't help with any future reservation-but considering the cost per point you just paid for VGF, they owe you one...

I was thinking that this might have been a better direct purchase under the circumstances (not sure what the PP was) - the problem is that it is resale not direct.

It was a direct purchase from Disney, but they will not offer me much help, They will book me for a week except for one night ( Tues. )in the middle of. the week. They can wait list the one night but if it does not come available, I will have to change rooms for one night and then move back into original room.

I assume you mean they will do that at VGF. I would do that reservation with one wait list day now. It may come through particularly since it is only one day. Also, if nothing has come through at 7 months out you have the option of just cancelling that and booking elsewhere.
