I haven't heard of anyone ever getting discounted fares for "the busiest travel period of the year" aka the weekends before and after Thanksgiving. We were extremely lucky to have booked our fares at times when the tix were relatively cheaper, but we're still bumping up on $300 per person. If we were to buy the same flights today, we would be paying 50% more at least.
The only deals I've ever seen for travel that week are some flights ON Thanksgiving (the day before is one of the busiest travel days of the year; the holiday itself is just about the lightest) but any airline having such a sale wouldn't release the prices until MUCH closer to the date.
I have, including Sunday evening after Thanksgiving, using the 331 day in advance method, before everyone caught on and had their computers up and running at midnight.
Once an airline changed its schedule and a few more discount seats appeared for Thanksgiving weekend. Of all things I noticed it while using the internet from Disney Quest. I could not book using those stations so I ran upstairs and used the pay phone to book my next trip.
These were "everyday" discount seats as opposed to "fare war" discount seats. We're talking in the $200. range, round trip from Boston.
I paid $177 round trip non stop from Boston to Orlando for this year on Delta. I leave the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and return the Sunday after. I think this was a fluke. It seemed to be when they were switching all Songs flights to Delta. We quickly grabbed them. I think unless you book 331 days out it is hard to find deals for that time of year.
Hi,
We traveled Providence to MCo last Thanksgiving. We left on the Sunday before and returned on the Monday after. I paid 220.00pp.Luckily, I got a ding fare on SW for the Sunday at 49.00.The return flight on Monday was the expensive one. If I could have waited until Tuesday they were much cheaper but I didn't want my daughter to miss another day of school. I am holding out f or SW and hope to get a decent flight. Jet Blue right now for us would be 378pp.A bit steep for me. Keeping my fingers crossed for SW. Good Luck to you!
Major airlines (exception Southwest and Jetblue and a few others) release their flight schedule 331 days ahead a time. When the flights opens up they are usually at the lowest rate. The rate usually goes higher as more people purchase tickets. So if you watch for the dates of your trip and check them 331 days ahead of time the prices will probably be the lowest and flights. Usually the early you book the better the price.
