Thanksgiving 2008 @ The Fort- A Photo Report

Here are a few more pictures from Thanksgiving morning.

This is the first site on the inside of the 1100 loop. On Friday, Stacktester and his daughter checked in to this loop. I have some pictures of this site at night time, which I will post a little later on, so here it is in the daylight:

For the past few Christmas season, there has been a big display on a site on the 1600 loop. These folks are back again this year. Here is a photo of the site taken from the 1300 loop. I will have some more photos of this site, as well as some background on the folks who decorate it, a little later in this report:

ThanksgivingFW2008066.jpg

The campfire area is nicely decorated for Christmas:

As I was heading back to the 300 loop, I cut through the 1400 loop by the campfire area. As I was passing the first site on the outside, just past the comfort station, I heard the distinct sound of a champagne cork popping. Remember, this is Thanksgiving morning, before 9 am. I turned around to look, and sure enough, there were folks on this site breaking into the bubbly before 9 am. I made a mental note to keep an eye on these folks. Probably would get a little hairy there on that site later in the day. This was a big group of tent campers who occupied a couple of sites there on the 1400 loop. Here is what things looked like early in the morning. I will have some photos of how things looked that night a little later on in this report:

ThanksgivingFW2008069.jpg

As far as I could tell, these folks were not Disboard members, but something tells me that they would fit right in. ;)

Anyway, I head back to the 300 loop.

Here is a site in the 500 loop that overlooked the dog park:

ThanksgivingFW2008071.jpg

The bus stops are all decorated. Here is the 300/500 bus stop:

Here is a photo taken from the entrance/exit of the 300 loop, looking toward the TCD site #360:

I really liked the location of our site. It was easy to get in and out of the loop for my surveillance missions. ;)

TCD

Awesome reporting as always TCD. :thumbsup2

It is making me so excited. We will be there next week. I can hardly wait! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

:santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa:

My daughter really liked the site right inside 1100 loop. The carport part was her favorite decoration they had.

TCD said he didn't really see much to do a TR about this trip. See how sneaky he is? :lmao:

Uh, ever hear of a Mimosa? OJ and Champagne, Yum! Auspicious start to the day of thanks if you ask me!

Donnie- I really don't have any big revelations to make in this report. But, I will do the best I can with the material I have. ;)

It was good to finally meet you.

How bad did the weather get on Sunday?

I drove home to the west in some really bad storms.

Well, even though I have never been accused of being sophisticated, I have heard of a Mimosa.

But, did I say anything about orange juice?

These folks were slugging it right out of the bottle!

Just wait, they were only getting started. I think Stacktester can back me on this one- these people were there to party!

It got really nasty for a while. It was almost like one of the storms that hit in the summer. We went to Disney Quest and had a great time. It was dead when we walked in but it got busier as you can imagine everybody got the idea to get out of the rain.

It was nice talking to you and Miss TCD. Looking forward to more pics.

I saw that site a lot and yes, there was always a big party going on. They had a huge firepit that was roaring at times. One thing I didn't like was there were a lot of kids on the loop road in front of the site unattended.

Donna- You know that I have some photos of 303. So stay tuned. The man in 303 had Thanksgiving decorations up, and did not start with the Christmas ones yet. From our site, we could look across and enjoy the decorations on 303. I hope someone can get some good photos of the Christmas decor on 303 once that gets done.

The entrance to the 300 loop was just not the same without the Howards in site 301. It made me quite sad, actually.

TCD
if no one can get over there from here, i have someone going over friday for pictures so i will post those here!
i knew you'd have some from your thanksgiving trip! thanks!

Now let's see . . .

I don't think I have posted any photos from the 200, 400 or 500 loops yet, have I?

Well, here you go.

On the 500 loop, the first two campers had Mickey head lights with arms:

ThanksgivingFW2008037.jpg

This camper had to make careful use of his limited space between his expanded site and the next:

ThanksgivingFW2008076.jpg

On my way to the 400 loop, I saw this display behind someones site on the 300 loop. All the clearing gives folks the option of displaying their decorations in front or back of their site. A lot of folks do both.

These inflatable turkeys were quite the rage during the week(we just saw one on the 500 loop, remember?):

ThanksgivingFW2008077.jpg

Here we are on the 400 loop (I think). I believe that this might be the campsite of Disboard member mdoc, based on a description that she gave in a previous post:

ThanksgivingFW2008079.jpg

At least this turkey is sitting down!

Some more decorations:

ThanksgivingFW2008082.jpg

This is either the 200 or 100 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008083.jpg

Check out this Fort Wilderness version of Santa and his reindeer (only at the Fort!):

A closer look:

I love it!

Moving along the loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008088.jpg

Here we are at the sidewalk in the back of the 100 loop. This is the one that leads out to the Settlement Trading Post. The same campers were on this site on Halloween weekend. They do a great job with their decorations:

Now, back out into the loop, and heading out.

This site is across from the one that we just looked at:

ThanksgivingFW2008095.jpg

Even the folks in one of the VIP cabins on the 100 loop joined in the decorating frenzy:

ThanksgivingFW2008096.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008097.jpg

Not bad for cabin people!

On our way out the loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008098.jpg

Next, another run past the 700 loop, on my way to check out the 800 loop.

TCD

holy smokes - it's like INFLAT-A-FORT!

i wouldn't see this any better if i were there myself! keep em coming!!!

We were also out on patrol at half time. I'll post some photos of what we saw a little later. I did see the other Gator inflatable on the 300 loop. Since we were right near the exit, I didn't go around the loop much, but on Saturday, I heard someone say, "Oh, look, it's another Gator," so I had to go out and investigate. Your FIL's inflatable is old school, and I always wanted one of those. I took a photo, which I will post later. I noticed that he took it down right after the game. Probably a smart move-especially with FSU fans across the street.

TCD

Actually he didn't take it down because of those fans (but who knows what they might have done) but b/c we cleaned up everything around our sites in case that storm blew through earlier than planned. And like you, even though we drove south, we ran into some nasty(!!) wind and rain on our way home Sunday. Glad you made it home ok too.

When you think about it, it is pretty amazing that so many folks go to the trouble that they do to decorate their campsites.

It is just another wonderful thing about staying at the Fort.

And, there is more.

I think these next photos are from Friday morning.

You know, Black Friday.

While some of you were getting trampled at your local Walmart. The TCD gang was chilling at the Fort.

So, here I am heading down to check out the 800 loop.

BTW, I am still on the TCD spy bike. The Bike Barn people claim that I am now #22 on the waiting list for a golf cart. Is that any way to treat one of the Fort's biggest fans?

Oh well . . .

Here comes some more! :

The exit area of the 700 loop just never gets old:

ThanksgivingFW2008099.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008100.jpg

As I am engaging in my photo journalism, this young whipper snapper comes cruising by on the Hummer cart. Show Off! Must be Roy Disney's nephew or something. How did he get that cart?

ThanksgivingFW2008101.jpg

Seriously, I later happened upon his site. His family was tenting it on the 1500 loop. In one of the Fort's rented tents. Didn't look like VIP's to me. I guess they do assign this cart randomly.

So, it's on to the 800 loop!

Here is a nicely decorated site:

ThanksgivingFW2008102.jpg

And, I believe this is Disboard member's Mmketeer's site:

ThanksgivingFW2008103.jpg

I didn't notice it at the time, but I believe there is a Disboard sign hanging from the lamp post.

This site must have been near Mmketeer's site, as it was the next photo on my camera:

ThanksgivingFW2008104.jpg

The sign on this site tells us that this is the set up of Disboard member Wilderness Wookie. I don't remember seeing him or her around here on the boards too much, but he or she was proudly representing the Disboards:

ThanksgivingFW2008105.jpg

Good show, Wilderness Wookie, whoever you are!

Check out this traditional Christmas display. The standard inflatables, and the classic "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" banner (complete with parrot):

ThanksgivingFW2008106.jpg

Another site on the 800 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008107.jpg

And, another Christmas classic. The Rudolph the red nose reindeer cart with Confederate Flag roof:

ThanksgivingFW2008108.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008109.jpg

On the 600 loop, these folks went with more of a Fall theme:

ThanksgivingFW2008110.jpg

And these folks went with a timeless classic look:

ThanksgivingFW2008111.jpg

And, these Gator fans also went with the Fall look:

ThanksgivingFW2008112.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008113.jpg

So, we have covered a lot of ground, haven't we.

But, what about the 1600-1900 loops?

Well, that will be what we take a look at next . . .

TCD

TCD, even though I was there and saw most of what you're posting you really give the people who weren't a front row seat only the way you can.

Now let's see . . .

TCD, you're good! That is indeed our site (and there's another turkey sitting down inside the camper). The 400 loop wasn't as festive as many, but there were a few sites with some nice decorations. I love your photos, and I'll be looking at them from now until Christmas for a "Fort fix."

OK- on with the report.

Here are some shots of the 1600-1900 loop area.

There has been a lot of work done on these loops, and they look pretty good.

Here we go on the 1700 loop:

ThanksgivingFW2008115.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008116.jpg

Here is another one of those JC Penney Mickey Lights. These are a popular item at the Fort this year:

I'm not sure exactly what this is. Looks like a rubber chicken dressed like Elvis. Doesn't it?

ThanksgivingFW2008126.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008127.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008128.jpg

I remember these folks from last year at about this time. The license plate on the front says "E-Ticket."

ThanksgivingFW2008129.jpg

Now the 1600 loop . . .

ThanksgivingFW2008131.jpg

ThanksgivingFW2008132.jpg

This is the front of the heavily decorated site on the 1600 loop. I spoke to the lady camper on this site. She and her husband work in the amusement industry, and travel the country about 10 months a year. In November, they come to the Fort and "park-it". They will be at the Fort until just after New Year's, so anyone visiting between now and then will be able to see these decorations. I have some more photos of this site, which I will post in a separate post.

On the way out of 1600 . . .

Great job. I never see this much when I'm actually there. But then if it isn't on the route between my site and Mickey Waffles.....

TCD....thanks for taking the time to do this report!!

I'm glad to see many of the winter folks back at the Fort. The people in this site didn't seem to think they'd come back this year, but obviously they did & I'm happy for them!:thumbsup2
