Thanksgiving 2007!!!

Debbie-

If you have never been to Nassau, then you should plan on catching a taxi from the dock and going to Atlantis. It isn't very far-you will see it from the port. While there, you can visit the casino and restaurants. Also, a lot of people actually book a "day room" at the hotel. That gives you the right to have wristbands which will allow you to use the pools (which are really nice) and to tour the aquariums. Since there are four in your group, you can split the cost- probably would come out to less than $50 per person. A lot cheaper than any excursion, I am sure. You can book a room on line. There are a lot of threads about this day room issue on the main boards here.

The rest of Nassau is pretty unremarkable-if you don't go to Atlantis, I would stay on the ship.

Thanks for the tips!

I'm back now, and I'm getting a serious complex. First, we didn't get to sail on the December 2006 New Year's cruise. Next, as we sailed RCCL last week, we didn't get to enjoy Coco Cay on Tuesday because the waves were too brutal...we even broke our anchor! The captain said he would try again on Thursday. So, Tuesday was supposed to be our day at sea. Wednesday night the captain announced that we couldn't land at Coco Cay on Thursday, either and that we should expect 12-14 foot waves that night. We actually ended up having 15 foot waves Wednesday night. So, Thursday was another day at sea. I couldn't eat all day Thursday. I felt okay if I was walking around or doing something, but as soon as I saw or smelled food...yuk!

Have you ever experienced 15 foot waves on the Magic? I know the RCCL ship we sailed didn't have stabilizers. I'm hoping those make a huge difference. I was fine with the 10-12 foot waves Tuesday night...the 15 footers did me in.

I'm worried about the Thanksgiving Cruise now. As they say, the third time is the charm...what does that mean? December - cancelled; March - loser; November - best ever????

I haven't sailed on any cruises (yet, knock on wood) in which we experienced high waves. Our family has been fortunate. During the Thanksgiving 05 sailing, though, we had a rough first night. (This was on the Magic.) The ship was rocking something AWFUL, and I left dinner before the appetizer even arrived. (Missed the show at Animator's Palate.:sad2: ) Rob and Rachel managed to last through the meal, and said there must have only been 15% of passengers remaining in the dining room!:scared1:

I'm going to start saying my prayers now that we will all have 'uneventful' sailings, and that the seas will be perfect. The last two times we've cruised, I've worn the motion sickness patch, and it's been a great help.:)

Hey Turkey Day 05 cruisers, remember that first night when the ship was rocking? Did you RUSH back to your staterooms too?

Hey all, I guess everyone has been preoccupied with their time. This daylight saving time has me going all day without realizing how late it is. My daughter's been having 2 hour ball practices and practice games. This is the first morning I'v even checked the board and I see I haven't missed too much.
Our weather is HOT. It's already been in the high 80's. It's going to be a long hot summer! We're going to WDW in May and want to do one of the water parks. Any preferences for 8 & 11 yr olds? Have a great day!! Melinda

Oh yes, I remember that first night. It was the only time I have felt sick onboard. Other than the time I tried to keep up with Lampy in the Miller Lite dept.

The first night is usually a litle rough anyway because the ship is sailing through the Gulf Stream or something, and it is always rougher. Lampy told me in 2004 that by 11 PM that night, it would smooth out. And he was right on the money.

We go to Blizzard Beach everytime we go to WDW. We have such a great time there. Typhoo Lagoon is lots of fun too. But we prefer Blizzard Beach.

Where is everyone lately? Recuperating from spring break? Or, does the thought of this Thanksgiving cruise still being 8 mos. away discourage some of you from posting?:confused3

Work is crazy here, so I've been reading everything but not posting much.

I had to remove my cruise countdown because I received a signature violation warning.

Melinda- We visit WDW a lot. I have twin DD's who will be 12 in May. We used to prefer Blizzard Beach, but now we prefer Typhoon Lagoon. They opened up a big new slide called the Crusher Gusher there. It is a water coaster. There are three tracks, and tubes for one, two or three riders. Also, the wave pool at TL is a lot more fun than at BB-much bigger waves!
Last summer, they had Extra Magic Hours at Typhoon Lagoon. If you are a Disney hotel guest, you could enter an hour later, and also stay two or three hours after the water park closed to guests. It is only on certain nights. Find a calendar and check on this. The EMH was a blast in TL- especially being there after dark. The place was practically empty! We actually left for the afternoon and came back at night- not sure if it would have been fun being there all day.

I remember that first night well, too.

We all had late seating, so we had the welcome aboard show before dinner.

I remember how the whole theater was moving, and the curtains on the stage were moving back and forth. When the crew was being introduced, you could see that they were having problems standing still on the stage.

At dinner that night, only one DD and I were still at our table of 10 when the entree got served. I remember that Charlie (of Charlie and Maria- Disfan37) was there when the waiter brought his dinner. He took one look at it, and ran from the dining room!

Back at our cabins, Mrs. TCD and the other two DD's were not doing well at all. I remember how the ship was creaking as we sailed into the night.

The next morning, and for the rest of the cruise, it was all good, especially on Thanksgiving day!

We all laugh about it now, but that first night was rough!

The first night of the '05 cruise was rough for Chuck too....he didn't even order dinner....while looking at the menu he realized that he needed to get some fresh air. :sad1: :sad2:

However, in both 2004 and 2006 he was fine the first night!! :thumbsup2

In 2005 we also missed stopping at Grand Cayman due to the weather. 2004 was perfect. In 2006, it was very windy, but Grand Cayman allowed 3 ships to dock on the back side of the Island in a protected area. Luckily, the Magic was one of the lucky ships!! All water excursions were cancelled, so, all of the buses were used to shuttle the passengers to town. We enjoyed looking in the shops, having lunch at the same restaurant we ate at in 2004 and sampling rums!! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the feedback on WDW water parks. It seems that both parks get great reviews. It might just be a toss up when we go.
Now ya'll are beginning to talk about feeling sick on board:sick: If that feeling should happen when I go, what really helps? pills, patch, band, what? I've heard until you get your "sea legs" you might feel kind of sick anyway, with or without bad weather. Remember this will be my first cruise:yay:

Get the patch- my wife is the worst about motion sickness. I have her get it and start wearing it as soon as we get on and there are no problems, if she waits until the ship starts rocking, and THEN puts it on, its 4-5 hours till she gets feeling better.

Quiet around here lately.

Aren't Lampy and his family on RCCL this week? Hey Willie, y'all were going to meet up, weren't you?

I'm hoping he'll post a report here. Does anyone think there will be any Miller Lite left onboard?

Priscilla

I don't know what happened to Lampy. I called him last week, and he was not sure they would be sailing. He said his daughters passports still were not in. He said that RCCL would refund him if he could prove that he applied over 10 weeks ago. Then I did not hear from him to meet him Saturday, so I assume he did not go to Galveston after all.

Hope everyone has a great Easter tomorrow. We're having just a bit of a cold snap along the Gulf Coast, and WINDY! We're pulling out jackets and jeans that we haven't worn in weeks! But it's sunny.:cool2: I just keep imagining our cruise in November.:beach:
Happy Easter!!!!!!!!
Melinda

Hi everyone!! Hope ya'all are having a good holiday weekend!! We just got home from Disney on Ice--Disneyland Adventure. It was very cute!! It was the story of the Incredibles day at Disneyland!! :thumbsup2 As the mother of a 7 1/2 year old boy, it's nice when there is a Disney show in town that isn't a princess theme show!!! :thumbsup2

Lisa

I just wanted to check in and say Happy Easter to everyone!!! I have been super busy with work (first quarter is my busy season), and coaching baseball for my DS7, that I haven't checked in to the turkeys for a long time. I am getting ready to take the DW to New York on Tuesday for a few days (this is our no-kids trip of the year); and she is excited as she has never been there before. We are going from mid-70's or so weather to 30's and 40's, so that sort of stinks, but it should be fun anyway. Hope everyone is doing well, and Hey - we just past another holiday on our way to T-Day!!!

Lisa-
We went to the same show about 2 weeks ago here in Kansas City. It was quite fun to watch. My DS really liked the Pirate of the Caribbean scene.pirate:
