Shan's google earth program gave me the opportunity to find "my" perfect site.

730

1. Easy to back in
2. No neighbors to north
3. No neighbors to west
4. Large site.

Shan-man---Many thanks from Team Bradfield.

TR will follow, we were at the Fort for 2 weeks, got back Sunday, still "running in quick sand" trying to get caught up with work....

Shan...its great to see how all of the tedious, time consuming work you put into that mapping is starting to pay off as an invaluable tool for Disney goers!!!

KUDOS to you, buddy!!!

It looks pretty dry at that site. Did you notice any water issues when it rained? We are headed to FW at the end of July and I am looking for a site where we won't have too much standing water in the site.

I'm delighted it was of use to you! And yes, there are many improvements planned: plotting the cabin loops, calculating walking distances from each loop to every Fort attraction, more still pics, panoramic pictures, and more! I just need to find some time! Stay tuned.

we arrived may 26th, there was water standing behind the site, but by the time we left on the 4th, it had dried up.

Would someone be so kind to post the link with the file in it?

I need to install Google Earth - and didn't want to do it while at work.

Thanks

The thread that talks about it is here.

The site that you can download GoogleEarth from is here.

The development site for the Site Maps project is here.

Once you have downloaded and installed GoogleEarth, go to the project page and download either the Fort Wilderness.kmz file or the Network Enabled Site Maps.kml file. The former is a little larger but can be used whether you have internet access or not. The latter will always present the most up-to-date version of the Site Maps, but requires internet access to work (at all!).

Enjoy!

Team Bradfield, do you mind if I use your pics in the GE Site Map for 730? Oh, and for folks who might like to reserve that site over Christmas, you should be aware that it is right next door to two of the largest Christmas displays at the Fort, so be prepared for lights, music, and traffic!

Shan, Be my guest, can't stress enough how much it helped.

No more of this:

We really need to do christmas, but the weather up north makes it difficult to drive down.

We ventured down for Halloween one year, most fun we've ever had at FW/WDW, but driving back the first week in November, most campgrounds are closing up. We don't do wal-mart lots, no hook ups = no team bradfield

Maybe after the last 3 little ones move on out. I can live without TV, but the DD's would revolt:mad:

Oh! What site is that? Looks like a 1400 pre-conversion. If it's one that hasn't been converted (i.e. is still THAT bad!) can I use that pic too?

Thank you Shan-man. I was able to install Google Earth and the file. I selected the loop I was interested in and am able to see a close-up aerial view.

Team-Bradford indicated in his first post his spot was easy to back into and a large site. I don't see anything in this that shows that. Am I overlooking something?

I love being able to see where everything is in relation to the loops. Even though I am already familiar with this - it is really neat to "see" it instead of relying on memory.

No, if you have been able to zoom in and see individual site numbers then you aren't missing anything. I think my friend has given me too much credit. But the imagery is good enough to tell that the sites are widely spaced, and back up to just woods. There are a few features you may not have noticed. For instance some sites in the list are underlined (hyperlinks) and if you click on them there is additional info (like pictures, or walking distances, and video tours for each loop!). As time goes by there will be more and more sites with these little bonuses. And, if you downloaded the Network version, the latest update is already on your computer. Look at site 730 and you will see Team Bradfield's site from last week.

I look for the angle of how a site hits the road, distance between sites, etc. His program shows that well

I was mistaken in identifing it as 1400 loop, after I found my packet from 07, and field verification on 6-1-09. it is site 341, evil, altogether evil

you may use it, hopefully it will save someone from back up hell, just look at the tree, its laughing :lmao:

WAs that a preferred or premium site? Just curious- I really like that site! It seems way way WAY more secluded than the one we had recently. Ours was close to everything but that looks nothing like where we stayed. It's further from the other sites, lots of greenery/trees around you- I love it!
