I finally got brave and used Priceline. I was able to get a Mid-Sized for $14 day from Alamo. That is nearly half the next best price I've been able to find using different codes.

I don't know which Alamo you are using but if it is the one near LAX beware. We reserved a minivan through Alamo (in January) for the week before Easter and when we went to pick up the car, guess what, no minivans or SUVs left on the lot! We were not the only ones without a car large enough to fit our group. We had two adults and three teenagers. We were told we could wait (along with all the others waiting and it could be several hours--it was 9 p.m. already) OR we could try to squeeze into a Chevy Impala and then we could return the car the next day and swap it out (no thanks--we had plans the entire week and returning to LAX was not in our plans). Luckily, the teenagers were fine in the backseat and all of our luggage fit in the trunk if it was put in correctly (it was like a putting together a puzzle to fit everything in the trunk). Although everything worked out okay, I will not rent from Alamo at LAX again. The service was poor (although they did credit me for the correct size car when we returned the vehicle) and not having the correct size car is a gamble I'm not willing to take again.

Oopps, should have added that it's Alamo at LGB. We used them twice last year and had great service and great clean cars.

How many days? When? I've tried a couple times and a price I'm willing to pay ($14 per day would be great) has never been accepted. We use a car service from LGB ~ $45 each way, in a Lexus or Toyota SUV.

Using Priceline:

I just got $14.00 (per day) for a Full-Size Car (Unlimited Mileage)

(Alamo, LGB Airport, late-June, 9-day rental)

With taxes and fees it's $19.27 (per day).

FWIW...

This $14.00 bid was accepted 24 days prior to my rental date.

My previous $14.00 bids were rejected 53 days, 43 days, and 39 days prior to my rental date.

This is what my confirmation says. I got this rate last night and it's for a rental starting next Monday.

We are planning on going to the beach and an Angels game and with the parks closing early for 2 Grad Nite's next week we knew we'd get good use out of a car.

I'm pretty happy with this rate since the rental car agencies and their prices have gone MAD!

Way to go! I am a big fan of PL. I rented a car a few weeks ago (enterprise) and got $15.00 per day. A huge savings. Glad to hear everyone was able to save money!

I need a one way rental from LAX to San Diego. Any tips on getting a great deal for one way travel? I have tried up to $21 for a standard car and am not having any luck. We are 2 adults and 3 kids and our travel dates are June 20 - 29. Your tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
