Thankful and Thriving-November 2024 WISH

Sunset today is at 5:09 for us. The time change doesn't affect my sleep much at all. Though it would be nice if I woke up an hour early so I am actually on time for work. I have noticed that at night I am feeling the difference this year. DH usually is in bed around 8. He reads and watches TV but he is at least settling down. I asked him the other day if he was staying up late. It was only like 6:30. This past Sunday I thought the 4 pm games were over until I realized it was only 6 and they were only going to half time.

When DS was little it affected him a lot. I hated the time change. He was always an early riser so when the time changed happened he was wide awake at 4:30. I was a zombie at work by the end of that week. DD would have still been an infant (thankfully still a good good sleeper at that time) so I wasn't able to go to bed early either. I think I put her down at about 11 so she would sleep until 6.

Wow, I thought Summer's sunset time would be close, but I didn't realize we were all so far north. My sleeping pattern has been OK, it is in the evenings when my sense of time is so off.

And I think my feeling we are already to Christmas comes from binge watching Disney live streams over the weekend. It started with the first Mickey's party, then Jollywood Nights, and then watching rehearsals and filming of the Disney Holiday special. I don't normally watch the Disney holiday show but now I'm heavily invested having seen part of it put together.

Our sunset today is at 4:52pm…ugh.

I am embarrassed to admit this but honestly I could go to bed at 6pm. I stretch it to 8pm or if I have a evening event at church I drink a late coffee and got to bed around 10pm or so…but it does impact me.

Having the Christmas lights up these past few days has helped!

I got out in the sun (and wind) today on my 2 breaks and walked around the block so that helped with my sluggishness for sure!

We are leaving town for a family wedding tomorrow, but all of this talk of decorating makes me want to just get it done when we get back. We'll see if I end up doing it or not. We've never put anything up before Thanksgiving, but there's a first time for everything, right?

My tree will be up by up by the end of the week, but without anything on it until I'm sure I've got it kitty proofed, because Pippa has to get in to everything. It means my sorting and purging for today is going to be the pantry shelf, so I can move the pots and pans on the little dresser into the shelf and then the little dresser can come into the living room for the tree to sit on, that is after the chair in the living room gets moved to the office and the bench in the office goes somewhere to make room for it... it is a whole system.

I grew up in a family that went to the Christmas tree farm to pick out our tree the week before Christmas, and put up the tree on Christmas Eve.

When I was married, we started the tradition of decorating during the weekend after Thanksgiving, but since DD travels so much and always works on Black Friday, last year we started the tradition of putting up the tree on Thanksgiving. It’s the only day that I know she will be home.

According to google sunset was 4:27 which means it is going down as I am driving home. As much as I could totally curl up at 6 extracurriculars prevent that other than Fridays. I do get in pjs early Friday nights when I can for sure.
As much as I am not a fan of the time change I do like that DS12 is not waiting in the dark for the bus now.
When I was a kid the Christmas lights and non-tree decorations would go up sometime early December with the tree going up about a week and a half before Christmas. When I got to college and my parents suggested not bothering with a tree I shut that down by dragging all my friends over one night right before break started. I had an eclectic group of friends including a bunch of “theater kids” my dad was skeptical but then admitted the guys from that crew did the best job on the tree ever. The couple years between college graduation and when I moved out it turned into a bunch of girlfriends coming over and setting it up in exchange for dinner and cocktails…mom and dad readily agreed to that arrangement too.
Now Lights may go up before they get turned on dependent on the weather. Christmas lights get turned on/decorations typically go up right after Thanksgiving and stay up until at least the Feast of the Epiphany at minimum but generally a smidge later depending on when we have time to undecorate. Tree and inside decorations come down before the lights get turned off, candles in the windows are generally the last thing to get brought down as I think of those as more cultural than holiday. We go big bang style setting up decorations but put them away in small clusters.
I was always into understated outdoor decorations but during Covid I told DH I “don’t care make it bright.” Then after my parents passed away make it bright turned into “screw it I want the airplanes to confuse us with the airport”. We aren’t the brightest house in the neighborhood but we definitely out shine the rest of the street 😉

Woohoo... and a well done me. Last week I pledged to myself to stop shopping on Amazon unless absolutely necessary and to date have gone five days without clicking the buy button, plus a number of things went back.

Woohoo... I really like the apartment complex I've been stalking online and feel that I'll be happy living there.

Woohoo... I'm on track to sort/purge one area each day. Plus, I have enough stuff ready to make a trip to the dump.

We always decorate the Friday after Thanksgiving. We did this growing up too. DH has the tree up before I get up in the morning and the kids and I decorate it throughout the day. We used to do more decorating but that just has not happened the last several years. We will get back to it at some point. Most likely when we buy a new house. Whenever that will be.

I am not too woohoo today. I feel fine still but a lot more congested today. It is looking like I will be working from home tomorrow. DD also told me that she feels like her infection is back again. She is 1 week off of the antibiotic. I have a message into her dr to see what we need to do. WIth this new diagnosis of the low antibodies I am just not sure what we are supposed to do. This poor girl has been through a lot this year.

I will woohoo that DD's CT scan is Friday and that we were able to finally get it approved with insurance. Hopefully we get some answers to why she coughs so much. It has been non stop since July. It got a little bit better when the whooping cough started to get better but every time she is off an antibiotic in the last month and a half to 2 months it gets worse again. So crossing my fingers for some answers

WOO HOO! My very difficult and troubled student was accepted into the psychiatric program at our area hospital. A school bus will pick her up every day at 12:30 and bring her to the hospital for treatment/therapy etc. She will have a psychiatrist supervising her case and professionals will provide support to the family at both the hospital and in the home. I pray that they can help her.

Woowhoo another Wednesday without hitting anyone!
Woowhoo made it by three breakdowns on busy highways/roads today without getting into an accident!
Woowhoo target had my kids favorite chicken nuggets in stock and way cheaper than the market!

What is my life 🤪

Whooooohooooo for a short work week for me due to the holiday on Monday! It’s such a treat to only work 3 days!!!!

Thankful today that I was able to get 5 of my family members shopped for via Amazon for Christmas! It feels good knowing I am done shopping for them and can move forward with my next group of family members!!

Thankful that I got two last dahlias out of the garden.

And a hearty thank you to myself for following up on the things I've said I would do. Yesterday I made a run to the dump and today I'll drop off the bags for the women's shelter. And I'm on track with cutting back on spending, clearing one area per day and the big shift to fit the Christmas tree in. Who am I?

I am thankful for DD's pediatrician and the group of doctors that are working together to get DD as healthy as possible. DD was back at the pediatrician last night. 1 week off of antibiotics and all her symptoms were back. They got us in at 7pm last night. She has a double ear infection, so she is back on an antibiotic. She also suggested that we talk to the ENT about tubes. We see them the week after Thanksgiving. She thinks with the 2 ear infections and a sinus infection in the last month and a half and her working diagnosis of the low antibodies, that she would be a good candidate for them. CT is tomorrow so we will soon find out (hopefully) why she is still coughing so much.
