Two simple words that can make the difference in a person's life to the person saying the words and the person receiving them. I watched a driver who spent at least 15 minutes loading luggage at a value resort. The passengers ahnded over the luggage and boarded the bus they were then driven safely to the airport, which is what the passengers expected. Most of them retrieved their luggage and nearly bowled the driver over heading for their gates. One person actually said thank you and to my shame that person was a minor adult. What has happened to us that we no longer thank a person for a service rendered. We take for granted a free ride and feel superior service is also a right with no thanks needed. When I go to a restaurant I thank the waitress for her sevice and tip her appropiately for her service. When the grocery boy brings my groceries to the car I thank him. I also slide him a dolloar or two. I think any and all service should be thanked properly and not ignored. Thank you for the time you took to read and let me vent

We're in such a rush with everything in our lives now that these small things are getting overlooked more and more.

I thought that all this Technology was going to help save us time when in fact it just gives us more to be busy with by ourselves.

This has for the most part become a ME world with follow or get out of my way attitude.

Most service type (me included) just want to be reconised for a job well done and a simple thank you goes a long way.

Your welcome and Thanks for bringing this up

I agree. I make it a point to say thank you to my bus driver on the way to and from work. Its public transport and I am sure he doesn't hear it often but without him/her, I wouldn't be able to get to and from work so you can be sure I let them know I am appreciative. :)

Thank you is always appreciated IMO. Im raising the sweetpea to say thank you for everything. Not just the obvious things, but even the little things. I make it a point to teach the sweetpea that saying thank you isn't meant to be an option, it something that should just come naturally. We thank everyone from the person moving our lugage to our waitress when she brings our refils. Is it necessary, no, but is it appreciated?......heck yeah. One thing that I always think about is if someone is doing something for me that I am not doing for myself, they need to be thanked.

I also agree that a simple "thank you" should be used far more often today. I can't tell you how many times I have held a door for someone and they don't say a word. We are, unfortunately, becoming very crude and far too vulgar in this country. Too many people feel that you need to throw in a vulgar word (or more than one) in almost every sentence. It's ashamed that these same people don't know how to say things like "thank you".
I believe all the previous posters hit it on the head.
Thank You to the original poster who started this thread. This is something we need to think long and hard about.
