STL to MCO has been $300 or more for the majority of time since I planned our trip back in May. I wasn't keen on paying over $1200 to fly there. After forgetting to check airfare for about a week, I just happened to remember on Wednesday. Sure enough, SWA was running a $200 roundtrip internet only special that expired at midnight Thursday. After checking American and not seeing a price match (AA was $260+), I booked. We're all set! It's refreshing to know that patience sometimes pays off when it comes to the airline game.

Good job. We may plan a trip in Jan with airfare at $160pp for 5. If SWA come along with a better deal I will be all over that.

Not exactly sure where in the midwest you are located...we're in southern Illinois near Carbondale so for us STL is the closest major airport, but we also look into Evansville, IN, Nashville, TN, Louisville, KY, Indianapolis, and Bloomington IL since we're a minimum of 2 hours to STL and at worst 4 hours to Indy and Bloomington. I'd been watching the airfare for all of these airports since early spring and when SWA opened up their December fares, Nashville was $111 oneway plus taxes and fees...for 3 of us RT $714 and change and the flight schedule is great...depart BNA at 8:25am and arrive MCO at 11:10am. Our return on Christmas day is MCO departure at 8pm and arrive BNA at 8:25pm. Well, exactly a week later the same flights come up on the DING at $35 one way....YIPPEE!!! So now I've got a nice big credit to use...gotta love SWA. Matter of fact, I just checked out the system wide sale SWA is having...prices good through Oct. 3 I think...and Nashville (BNA) to MCO was $84 and change one way for the same flights I've got.

So, depending upon where you live and how far the drive would be for you...might be worth checking alternative airports.

But if not...$200 RT for STL is a great price! I think STL is always the most expensive for us (with a rare exception) and I swear it has to do with flying over the Mississippi or because it's a halfway point for east and west coasts.

Keep watching Ding specials as well as internet specials on their website as we got our RT flight from STL-MCO at $115.50 for later this month.
