Thank You Pete Werner!

Its very easy for him to say that in the position he is in. He makes money off of Disney and from everything he talks about is not hurting for money. Price increases are one thing....tier ticketing is another

with that said I totally agree with him 99% of the time, but my complaint is the always rising prices and the always taking away so its going the opposite way if they were keeping everything going and raised prices. I would say i can only afford to go once instead of twice

Don't they both make it more expensive? How do you see it?
great question....what makes me mad is they try and get more people to go during flower and garden and food and wine and at the holidays to see the decorations....and they are making sure thats the most expensive time to go. For a family of 5 on saturday it would have cost you 525 to go to the magic kingdom for 1 day.....1 day later its 625? there is a price increase and than there is ridiculous price increase.

I totally understand his argument about Socialism and I agree business should make money and as we all know Disney is not hurting. But Also in America people are able to voice their opinions and I think thats what allot of people on here do and thats what makes these boards and the Dis Podcast great

I'm by no means rich, not even close, but I have no problem with the price increases.

Disney doesn't owe it to anybody to make their parks affordable for all.[/QUY

You are totally right they dont owe it to anyone but if they raised the price outside of what you could afford would you be upset because im sure every year it includes more and more people? That doesnt mean that people can not be upset and thats all it really is people voicing their opinions.[/QUOTE]

So many vacation destinations have already priced themselves out of my price range. Am I upset about it? Nope, not at all. If I want to go to one of those places, I'll save up for it. Some places I'd have to save my money for much longer.

So because it doesnt upset you and Pete does that mean it can upset someone that has to tell their kids they cant go because they cant afford it? I am lucky enough that the price increase wont really effect me and my family but I do feel for the people that it will and I think they do have a right to be upset. Also if every company used the model of inflation that Disney has used....everything would be costing us a WHOLE LOT more

I agree with Pete for some of his rant. No one should be surprised at Disney raising the prices. I did love that he brought up the fact that they are making cuts across property while raising prices. I hate to see the streetmosphere actors going and the cuts being made property wide.

How many are actually going for one day though? And if you are, you know that the prices are going to be high anyways. Disney has never really been an incredibly cheap vacation.

For the increase maybe you don't buy one souvenir that you would've otherwise. I see both sides to this but they didn't raise prices by $50 or more. At peak times people are still going to go. Disney doing this isn't to get crowds under control. Disney doing this is pure we want more money.

A large part of WDW visitors are first time or once in a lifetime Visitor's locals and Disney veterans aren't where Disney makes its money.

You're never really priced out of a Disney vacation but it just will take you longer to save up for one. If this increase priced a person out I think they have been priced out for far longer than they think.

I agree with Pete and was doing fist bumps the entire time he was ranting. When my son was young I was a single mother and did indeed tell him we can't go to DW because I can't afford it, he lived. We did go every other year and stayed on property in a MK resort (that was all that was available back then). I saved for two years to afford it, if we went out to eat, we shared happy meals and neither one of us complained about it. He didn't wear name brand clothes, he wore J.C. Penney brand jeans and tennis shoes. His toys came from the dollar store. We went to the park and took a picnic of PB&J on Saturday's instead of going to movies, there was a local medieval club that had sword practice then, he loved it. On the way home we would stop and get an ice cream cone to share. It was a my decision to make to go and he knew we would have to tighten our belts. He will tell you now (he is 35 and still goes with me every other year, I go twice a year now) that those are the best memories for him. I'm pretty sure they raised prices every year back then too.

I feel bad for anyone that may not be able to afford something anymore, but I neither have control over the price or this theoretical family's income. Specifically for this case: "we'll pop over to Disney for a day!", that always been the most expensive way to visit.

Yearly increases aside, WDW already has the reputation of being a very expensive place to vacation. So expensive that the first time I checked prices, it was cheaper than I thought it would be. If it didn't have that rep, the idea of a "once in a lifetime" visitor wouldn't exist.

Just be thankful a lot of people can't even go once never mind twice. Nothing like complaining about other peoples wealth while flaunting your own.

Pete was 100% right about something, people will always complain for the sake of it and then still go. If you're that up in arms for other people don't even go once. Disney will drop prices if no one is going.

costs go up and frankly it's the one day price they are trying to control right now. and not many people comparitively buy those one day tickets. most tickets sold are part of vacaation packages and are multiday tickets. I agree with pete. If you don't think its worth it, don't come. thanks to dvc people have made disney an annual pilgrimage. It wasn't meant to be that. Walt even said that DL was supposed to be a place where families can come and have a memorable time. It's not supposed to be a babysitting service as many APs turn it into. and entertainment slots aren't being cut, they are being moved around and changed. In the next couple of years there won;t be any more of those street performers at the studios because they don't fit with the new concept of the park. The new concept is more like universal in that you will be emerced in movie themes and not how movies are made. There may be a few streetmosphere left but not many and when you are in entertainment, you are on contract and disney has the option of renewing or not. but labor costs are going up all over the resort to the tune of 50 cents an hour raise. that means starting salary is 10.00 an hour. so of course prices have to go up

As I said in another post. the market dictates what the market dictates. If supply does not keep up with demand, prices go up. Think of Disney as the Lobster or Caviar of vacations. Maybe it is just not meant for middle or lower class people anymore. I know that sucks to say, but reality is reality. You can either afford it, or you can't. Don't hate Disney for capitalizing on a good thing.

I absolutely agree with Pete on this, but my favorite part of the rant is when he mentions, a couple of times, that it impacts people when it hits them in the "pock-a-book". As a former Jersey girl, this is awesome! It's not a wallet, not a purse, it's a "pock-a-book"!
