I am in the process of planning a January trip for myself, DH, MIL, DD 18 and DS 16. I am a Planner (yes, with a capital P) so I appreciate forums like this that help those of us who aren't so knowledgeable learn some from those of you who are. I have planned non-Disney trips in the past where forum members belittle new posters for not knowing info they think is obvious. I usually search out answers before I ask, so I'm not usually the subject of the belittling, but it still isn't fun to read.

The people on this forum are wonderful. I have had some questions answered, and I've read, and re-read many posts to stay up to date. The people on here are friendly and helpful, which makes it easier to feel included. I just wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to all of you who know so much more than I do, to try and make my trip a magical one!

Thank YOU for sharing your thoughts! You are certainly welcome here and feel free to ask any and all questions -- we do our best to answer to the best of our ability. We all have different experiences and can give some interesting perspectives and tips. Feel free to share things that you've noticed or experienced, too -- it can really help the veterans to hear fresh views! With all the changes currently in the works and SWGE right around the corner, planning is super important right now. January can be a tricky time with the change from Holiday Time to off season. Ask away to make sure that you don't miss anything for your trip. :)

Is this your first DL trip? You're going to have a great time, I'm sure!

Not my first trip, but first trip with the family in YEARS! DD and I went last October when we were in the LA area looking at colleges. DS went to DL when he was 2 and WDW when he was 4, but hasn't been since and barely remembers WDW. I've been wanting to go for a while now and having DD in college down there makes a good excuse. I'm calling this my Christmas / birthday present this year and it will be a surprise for the kids. I'm planning stuff out, but also realistic in knowing, and hoping, things will happen to skew our schedule...hoping the things that happen will be fantastic and magical.

. I just have to ask.... Was it the forums associated with trip advisor? I have been on diaboards frequently for a very long time now . So I am used to the general climate here. Recently started asking questions on the T. A. forums for non-disney travel questions and i was immediately taken aback by higher percentage of snarky replies. One person even pm'd so he/she could add some extra-nasty that he/she must have known would not be allowed on the public reply section. My reaction was like, "what did I do to deserve this? They act like they hate me and I just started here." I still post questions there occasionally, because there ARE some truly helpful responses but, I really walk on eggshells! Ya, its different here.

It was the Rick Steves travel forum. They had the most info for the countries I was going to, but they were also very quick to criticize people they thought asked stupid questions.

I go to the park virtually every Sunday and often send maps to various members of this group. I'd be happy to send you a set next Sunday, if you like. Simply message me your preferred address and I'll gladly drop them in the mail -- at Disneyland, no less! ;-). I can send up to four (two of each is what's typical).

THIS!!! This is exactly what I am talking about. A kind person offering to help someone else just because...not for some underlying reason, simply to be nice.
Thank you! I'll message you my address. It will be a great addition to the Christmas package to announce the trip for the kids.

You're welcome; glad to help. I believe that it's important to spread magic -- Disney or otherwise -- wherever and whenever possible :-). When you send me your address, please let me know how many maps of each park you'd like. Again, I can send up to four.

Incidentally, right now I'm writing at a library that's a mere three blocks from Walt Disney's original LA home and another two blocks or so from the first Disney studio :-). Where I live in Chicago is only about two miles from the house in which he was born. Coincidence? Impossible! ;-).

Happy Monday, everyone!

You're making me smile all over, Rob! That neighborhood was one of my old haunts back in the day, and I miss it a lot. Got to drop by sometime soon and show DH.

The Anaheim TA forum is crazy. If you aren’t one of two posters—-the expert on hotels or the expert on Disney history you might as well get lost.

It’s interesting because the Maui TA forum is soooo sweet!!!

While I do love this forum generally, I've had a few instances of other posters attacking me unnecessarily. Those are the people that get blocked, obviously. But I'm still surprised occasionally when some people here will be nasty (most aren't, of course). I've often observed of people in general that 90% of the world swims in one direction. Then there's the other 10% that lose their minds over the 90% that "aren't going the right way!" All I can do is be kind and be a happy person. But even that will sometimes trigger other people's suspicions. When it does, I think it says more about them than it does about me. There will always be those kinds of people.
