I came to this board roughly 1 tear ago looking for advice on joining DVC. As a family of 5 (kids are 8,5, and 1) we were looking for less expensive travel options

and good luck with that! DVC hasn't saved me money, quite the contrary! I go more often and spend more money!

Yep... We bought in to DVC 2010 it is now 2012 and we have already bought two more resale contracts (the first was direct). Every time we go we buy more points... Last trip ended up doing the whole bid and agree on a final price via email while sitting at a table just outside Capt. Hooks (poly). It is truly a sickness. My mom has already started talking about buying more points...we just closed on the last one a couple months ago. I am trying to hold her off until GFV goes to resale. It only took BLT a year so figure 2014/2015 GFV should be in the resale market. Buying direct the first time is ok, you get to experience the Disney DVC purchase experience but you should use resale for the rest of your contracts. You will save a ton of cash. Lastly, Welcome to DVC, Welcome Home. You won't regret it.

I've got 125 points at VGC too and have a 2 bdrm booked for 6 nights in February. We also managed a trip last year, end of August, and our son will be staying five nights in a studio in April/May. It's surprising how far 125 points can go.

Impossible....a week in february is 346 points. No matter which day you take out of the week you are way above 125. Please elaborate

We joined in May of 2011 for a June UY contract. They gave us all of the 125 points that would have come on June 2010 and since we had just joined they allowed us to bank these into the next UY (3 weeks later). In June of 2011 (1 month after we joined) we received another 125 points. This gave us 250 points. We used 212 on the trip (Stayed 3 nights Sat- Tues) transferred the rest to another member through this board. I hope that clarifies things. We went direct at the time but will most likely buy resale from here on.

After reading the debates on this board my wife and I decided to jump in with a small contract (sight unseen) for 125 points at VGC. We just finished our first stay. We stayed in a 2 bedroom villa with some good friends. As our trip was getting closer I turned to the experts on this board and asked for some room recs. I gave these to DVC and we ended up in villa 6500, one of the requested units. WOW...Incredible view, incredible suite, Incredible all around. I am at home still on cloud nine. One of the best trips ever from location, room size etc... Thank you to everyone on this board as you have made my kids (and my) dreams come true. OP, Loved your post! Just be prepared to add on constantly! We have added on more times than I want to say...BUT, we tell ourselves it's our retirement plan so we can be okay with it.

Love our DVC, and can't get enough.

Did you ever think about buying more points via resale? You could either save money for the same points or spend the same money and get more points. That disease "addonitis" is a b**ch, ain't it? I've caught it 4 times and have it again now!

Same here...I have the bug and have been watching the resale postings..however I need to keep telling myself it's a bad idea since my student loans will kick in once I graduate in a few weeks

OP - as I was reading your original post, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but I am glad it didn't!!! So happy for you that you are pleased with your purchased. Once you go DVC you never go back!
