I've never text messaged anyone before - but think it might be a solution to my dilemma. Long story short - out of politeness, I need to respond to somebody with an answer, but don't want to speak to this person or let them think that we are now "phone buddies."

Do I just go into my cell phone, type out a text message and send it to their phone number? I can figure out all the menus and whatnot in the phone, but is that all there is to it? And what happens if the phone number I have isn't a cell phone (so some cell phone that doesn't take text messages)? Will I get a message back saying the number wasn't legitimate?

Thanks for any help,
Sal

That should be all there is to it (except the charges, of course). I tried to text my VOIP home phone once but I got a message back saying the recipient wasn't able to receive a text.
