Ok, so my mom emailed me today and asked how I would feel if she applied to a job in texas(I live in CT and have for my entire life) at the time I was like as long as I could still go to my current school I was fine with it.(I go to a boarding school, so it would be realistic for me to stay here).
But now that I have been thinking about it more throughly, I don't know how I feel about it. I am so used to having my mom like 45 mins away from me at all times, and if i havent been having the best time she would just come up here. And my family lives up here, and i live in the house that my dad built and i have never lived anywhere else. my 2 best friends live up here, so i would only be able to see them if i was at school and i went to visit them, cuz they dont go to my school, they live in the town i curently live in.

So I dont know what to think about this...

Is it a really great job? How bad does she want the job?

j/w... i dont really have any advice =P

Well, if she really wants the job and wants to start fresh somewhere else you should give it a thought.

A new school and neighborhood can do you good. I mean you get to meet new people and start a fresh "life" somewhere else. But, I also understand the problem about being in a house that your dad built and everything.

What you could do is make a list with two sides dividing the paper. One saying: To Move and the other: Not to move. Then fill them out and really see which side you have more on and then think it over.

I wish you the best of luck. :)

but I dont have to change schools, cuz I go to a boarding school. Thats like one of the good things about this. She asked me if i minded her taking the job, she doesnt need it, and she doesnt really want it badly. its just really convienent because she was going to move when i graduated high school anyway but right now there is a job opening and then there might not be. so its good, but my best friends from home that dont go to my school are basically flipping out right now about me possibly moving.

I used to live with my mom, and now she lives 1,200 miles away. Not for long though.

I say do what you think is best.

I dunno, the biggest thing is how will your grades be effected?

NO!!!! Cuz I am GOING TO THE SAME SCHOOL!!!!!!!

Watch out, adult on the teen board... just wanted to weigh in and ask a couple of questions.

What grade are you in? If you've only got a year or so left of school before college, I think it makes things easier.

From an adult perspective, I know your friends in high school mean the world to you. Honestly tho, a lot of people lose touch with those people after school is over. I have two best friends from growing up and high school. We're still good friends, but the others it's just a quick "Hi" if I happen to see them when I'm back for the holidays.

Plus, I'm sure you have friends at your boarding school.

It's great that you can make the decision as a family. I think it shows great maturity that you understand what this will mean to your mother.

Good luck with your decision. Oh, and 45 minutes isn't so far away, you can still see your friends even if your parent's aren't living there anymore.

I am a sophmore in high school right now. And i am very close to my friends back at home. They both yelled at me last night. But i think I am fine with it, there are just some minor detals I am concerned with, not just my friends. But what am I going to do in the summer. Seeing as I will still be going to school up in CT I wont have much time to make friends in Texas. and i am coming to the age of driving and there are different driving laws in CT and Texas. and other stuff but right not i have to go to class.

I would say to stay with your friends! I would!

If her grades are going to drop because of the move, then I say she should be against it. Honestly, her grades should come before her friends. :confused3

for me now, it basically comes down to can I live with my mom so far away from me while I am at school. Like I can still see all of my friends and my grades wont drop becacuse I am a very dedicated student and person. Its just that over the past year, I got really close to my mom, and It would be hard having her half way across the country...

Well, IF your mom takes this job, I say get a drivers license in CT. You'll be there most of the time anyway. Check the laws for teen drivers, but as an adult it's very easy to just trade in one state's drivers license for another.

If you go to Texas for the summers, get out and meet people. Get a part time job. That's a great way to meet new people.

Remember even if your mom waits until you're out of school you'll quite possibly be in the same situation once in college. I knew a girl when my husband was in college. Her dad worked out a deal so he could work from home her last couple of years of high school so she wouldn't have to move. They moved during her freshman year at college. She had to go "home" that summer to a new town where she didn't know anyone.

I think the situation would be different if you weren't at boarding school now. If you were home with your mom every night.

I know it's difficult, but you'll still be close to your friends during the school year, and maybe you can work something out with all the parents where you can come to visit and stay with them for a few weeks in the middle of the summer (you can always pay for the tickets with that part time job I suggested :thumbsup2 )

Good luck, let us know how it turns out.
