Texas Renaissance Festival Tips?

We went last Sunday and had a blast! We had never been before and did not realize that all the performers work for tips! There are ATM's, though. I would suggest plenty of $1's and $5's.

Don't miss "The Other Brother's" show. "The Ded Bob Show" was great but not entirely appropriate for younger viewers!!

You will also want your camera because some of the costumes are fantastic and they are more than willing to stop for pictures!

Have fun!!

I've been three time so far this season and it's always fun.
Try:
Cheesecake on a stick dipped in chocolate (it will fill you for the day)
Turkey tenders.
Fried PBJ (yeah a fried PBJ sammich!)
The homemade fudge
and..............THE MEAD!

Including Ded Bob and Other Brothers try Sound and Fury, Iris and Rose and the Drench a Wench (PG-13 for what they says not cause it gets nipply out) If you have youngins with you please do heed their warnings of mature content :rolleyes1

There is also the Birds of Prey show. And do watch the parade at noon. PM me if you want more info...I'm a rennie in training. :teeth:

The French mime at the Odean stage is quite funny. Sound and Fury is definitely rated R.

I have been going to this since I was a young kid. Definitely bring money. Nothing is cheap there - but we have never once had to tip a performer. I have known performers, too. That is not something you have to do, unless everything has changed since we were there last year. And like I said, I have been going for 20-something years. It's lots of fun though and very entertaining! You should love it!

As the day progresses people become less inhibited. We always go and leave early. When the kids are older we will stay later.

There are discounted tickets for Friday as well.

Maybe we need clarification on "Performers"? :confused3 The stage shows such as Ded Bob, Other Brothers etc DO work for tips and they will tell you that as they pass the hat.

There are some semi-pro rennies that dress up, wander around and pose for pics (fairies, gnomes etc) that appreciate tips but don't require them.

We'll be there Friday, too. Sounds like we'll have good weather!

Bring cash. Most shops welcome Master Card and Lady Visa, but cash is handy for food, tips, and other small purchases. The food is, as always at these type of things, not inexpensive. Some of it is pretty good though.

Sunscreen is not a bad idea. Comfortable shoes are a good thing--the cobblestones aren't forgiving of thin soles. Travel light if you can.

It's a *big* place and everything can start to look alike after a while. If you're planning on splitting up your party, designate a meeting place and hang onto your maps.

Traffic can get frustrating on 249. My advice is to get there early and linger late, watch the fireworks, make it a full day. There are also plenty of, shall we say, drivers who've imbibed. A friend's daughter just had a major accident last weekend when she was rear-ended by a drunk driver leaving the festival. So drive carefully and watch out for the idiots.

Gotta agree with the recommendations for Ded Bob and the Birds of Prey show. The 'mud show' is always entertaining. Cast in Bronze will be there. Istanpitta is a fantastic group that performs very authentic period music. The jousting is cheesy fun. The crafting demonstrations can be interesting to watch (glassblowing, blacksmithing, etc.)

The best tip is, as they used to say, 'lift up your cares.' Get into the spirit, and you'll have fun. Attending in costume can be a blast if you're so inclined. Hope you have a great time!

(I can't believe TRF has been going for 35 years...I remember when it was just starting. Wow.)
