My husband and I are bring my MIL to her sister's house in Dallas the same weekend as the Nascar race at Texas Motor Speedway. We thought that it would be fun for our nephews to go to the Saturday race - we are coming home Sunday so the Nextel Cup race isn't possible. We are trying to buy tickets and don't really want to drop a fortune on tickets for two kids that don't really know much about Nascar.

I have read that if you are less than 12 rows up that there is a wall in front of you that you can't see over. Is that true? Why would they have seats behind a wall? Anyway, does anyone know where the cheapest "decent" seats would be? Also, I saw that the parking passes are $30 and $50. Is the free parking that bad? It seems silly to spend that much to park.

If we have to buy the expensive tickets and parking passes, we will. I just think that spending too much money on this will be a waste since they'd probably have more fun at Six Flags.

My father built the condos and clubhouse and pool (mom decorated it) I 'll call and ask.

One of our first "live" races was a champ car race in chicago. We got 10th row about 3/4 down the straight. The cars are so low we could barely see the rear wing go down the straight. we could lean forward and look left but we were ten looking past a half mile of people doing the same. We could look across the track and watch them on the back stretch, but there were buildings and towers obstructing the view so we could only see little bits of the back straight. No wonder the tickets were still available so late. So we spent half a day getting blistered by the sun, the stadium seating was shiny aluminum so it reflected the sun back up under our hats.

The best seats are up higher and slightly around a curve so you can see down the straight without having to lean forward.
bring headphones and earplugs. It can be loud. You can also rent the radios to listen to the pits or anouncers and they even have a setup with a video screen to catch replays and incar shots. I am not sure how much they charge for that device.

One other tip. Our seats for at indianpolis are in the middle of the section, so we have to walk past 30 people each way if we want to go to the washroom. Get seats near an aisle...

I just asked DH.. He has been to TMS many times and said that he is not aware of a wall... he said there are a few support beams as you get further up that offer an obstructed view.. He said that he's basically sat everywhere and never had a bad seat as far as he was concerned.. He said in his opinion the best seat he's had was midway up because you can see the whole track.. as far as parking is concerned the free parking isnt bad at all.. I asked him to guesstimate how far of a walk from free parking to the gate entrance and he said its about a 1/2 mile.. Ive been there once with him and the walk really wasnt bad at all.. You can bring an ice chest in with you for drinks and food.. no glass.. He always brings his own drinks and sandwich stuff and chips and pretzels.. so you can make it as cheap or expensive as you want.. You can buy tickets several ways.. ticketmaster, on TMS website it links you and Ive even bought tickets for him on Ebay and never had a problem..

Hope this helps.. if you have any more questions just ask and I can ask him

I go to TMS every year.

It's not a wall - it's the fence and you can see through it.

I've sat in the front row and I've sat in the last row - you can see from all rows.

The Busch race never sells out - I always buy the cheapest seats available and then move up to the top in Turn 4 where there is hardly anyone sitting.

If you have more questions, I'll be happy to answer them. :)

Also parking won't be as bad on Saturday as it will be on Sunday so I wouldn't pay extra for parking. I've been to TMS a bunch of times too, go have fun but don't forget ear protection them cars are loud ;)

Thanks everyone. That's great to hear. I think we will just buy the $25 tickets. He had thought about buying the cheapest and then just moving seats later in the race, but we didn't know how policed that sort of thing was.

Thanks for the info on parking as well. We went to Talledega a couple years ago and everything seemed like a nightmare as far as parking goes. My sister and I had the bright idea of dropping the guys off so that they could drink and not worry about driving - big mistake. We weren't aware that it was one way in and out so my sister and I got to sit in our car for two hours until they started letting traffic out. NEVER AGAIN!

Hey, just wanted to say I'm glad to see that DH won't be the only DISer at the NASCAR race there. It's a tradition for him to go to visit DS in Denton that weekend and they go to the race. But this year DS is bringing a girl-must be serious if he's bringing her to a NASCAR race!
