Tevas: Yay or nay?

Yes! Go for the Tevas!

We live in Tevas from May until October. All four of us wore Tevas to WDW in August, and it was the best thing we could have done for our feet. My kids have wide feet, and we adjust the straps accordingly. Neither child has ever had a blister from Tevas.

What stores carry Tevas? I've been to many major department stores (Sears, JCPenny, Payless Shoes, etc.) and I can't find them anywhere. Help!

We buy Tevas at Dick's Sporting Goods, Nordstrom (kid's sizes), and Sports Authority.

After reading many posts on these boards about shoes for WDW I bought both Teva Pretty Rugged Leathers and Crocs at the beginning of the summer. I absolutely LOVE my Tevas. I wear them all the time. I will still take my Crocs with me for my WDW trip (in only 14 days!!) but I'll bet that I wear the Tevas most of the time.

Are you near an LLBean store? They now have the Teva Mush marked down to 10.00 with 30% off! You can't beat 7.00 for this shoe. They are so soft. These I haven't worn to the parks but do wear them shopping, etc., and find them very comfortable.

No LL Beans near me....I wonder if they have the same sale online?

I usually alternate between my birks and my tevas at WDW....but I have loved wearing flips all summer, these sound like they'd be great :)

thanks for all the advice!

I just bought some teva sandals for my upcoming trip at Academy. They were 30 % off. Now that I have bought a pair, I can't wait until next spring when all the Teva flips come out. I want to try them.

Not to diminish the Teva fandom here, but I bought a pair of Teva's. Put them on in the store and they felt really comfortable. First time that I wore them for an extended period of time, I regretted the purchase. My feet were very sore all day long and now I only wear them if I know that I won't be on my feet very much (e.g.-a day at the beach). Other than that, they collect dust. I can honestly say that the Teva's that I bought are the worst purchase that I ever made for my feet.

We all love our Tevas! I read so much about there here on the DIS, that I bought myself a pair along with a pair of expensive Birkenstock. TEVA wins hands down. I also have a very wide foot with a high instep....hard to get shoes to fit nice...they are the very most comfortable pair of shoes I own. Once I saw how comfy mine were, I bought my son a pair and he as a 7yo commented on how comfy they were so my DH who never ever wears sandles commented that he wanted a pair...bought him a pair and he wears them all the time...never in our 20 years of marriage have I seen him wear sandles excpet to and from a swimming pool at a hotel.

With that being said, try Zappos.com. The prices are good and they have free return shipping in case you do not like them. They also have several reviews of each shoe.

We all plan on taking our Tevas to Disney with us next month....

Hi!

Saw your post and had to add my two cents. I have very wide feet (lovingly referred to as pontoon feet by hubby) and needed some good sandals. However, Tevas do not come in wide. So, my brother told me about Chacos. I ordered a pair from Zappos.com about 4 years ago and live in them all summer long and every trip to Disney. They are not cheap, about $90 but so comfortable and you can just throw them in the washing machine and they air dry. If I could wear them all year I would, but NY gets cold. Check them out, you will be glad you did.

I have a pair of Teva flip flops, and I absolutely love them more than anything. I would wear them year-round every day if I could (and I just about do). I wore them the other day when I visited all three parks, minus AK, and my feet thanked me for it. Several of my friends have Tevas too, and all love them. I have never yet known anyone who did not love their Tevas. Every day you don't have the Tevas, is just another day you're denying your feet the pleasure.

If you have wide feet, you should really try Keens. I owned Tevas for years and just switched to Keens this spring and I love, love, love them. My DH went out and got some too, on my recommendation, and he couldn't be happier.

Keens = a bit more support, toe protection, and more hip than Tevas.

I tried my Tevas in the parks and got major blisters on my toes. I cannot wear anything but Reebok walkers with socks if I'm going to be walking a lot. I'm totally unable to wear anything with a strap between the toes unless I'm going to do a lot of sitting and almost no walking.

But then, I have the worst feet on earth.

I have 2 pairs and Love them. 1 pair has been to WDW 5 times. Have almost worn through the tread. I have taken them to our local cobbler when the velcro wore out and had it replaced. I word of caution...they do smell during a hot day in the parks. So I am the biggest dork and wear little white socks with my Teva's while at WDW. (Even had a CM comment on the look) Didn't care...It's the only footware to wear at WDW as far as I am concerned...

p.s. they make great tan marks on your feet.

This past May I took my Teva Mush flip flops, my Teva Pretty Rugged Leather sandals, a pair of Croc beach, and a pair of Croc Nile sandals. The Tevas were BY FAR the most comfortable. In fact the Teva Niles gave me my first ever blister at WDW and for the next couple of days all I could wear were my Tevas. I have tried on one pair of Tevas I didn't like though. I think they were the Stratums (?). Anyway they had a hard rough sole bed and were too rough on my feet. The Pretty Rugged Leather have a sueded sole bed and the Teva Mush have a squishy foam like bed. I leave in four more days and my Tevas are coming with me. I'm also going to give my Croc Beach another chance. They're very comfortable around here, but just didn't feel as good as my Tevas at WDW. Go ahead and buy the more expensive Tevas, as they are so much more comfortable than the cheaper styles. I didn't even have to break in either pair of my Tevas. They were comfortable from the moment I put them on.

It depends on so many factors! I wore my first pair of Teva Pretty Rugged Nylon every single day on my July 1999 trip, and had no blisters and comfy feet. The following May, I tried it again with the same sandals and my feet were in agony by day two. Whether the shoes had just broken down a bit, or I still had winter feet, I don't know. I think the key is not just breaking your shoes in for your feet, but also getting your feet used to your shoes! I've done a combination of Tevas and New Balance running shoes for the past two trips and that seems to do the trick for me.

I bought my second pair of Croc Beach shoes intending to wear them during this trip. I've been wearing Crocs all spring and summer and have never had a single problem with them. Last Friday, however, I wore them to a local historical village, and after walking not even half my usual Disney day amount, I knew they weren't park shoes for me. I'll wear them on the plane and around the hotel, but not walking for hours on hot pavement.

Everyone's foot is different, so make sure you explore all of your options!

I bought my first pair of Tevas before I knew about "tevas". I LOVE them. So much so that I had to get another pair, and my sister wanted a pair too. So I ordered us both a pair of flip flops, and our mom (who is a crossing guard) a pair as well. We all LOVE them. My Tevas have never been to WDW but the first pair was with me when I went to Cuba, and I wore them ALL the time, and had no problems with my feet (now the sunburn that's another thing! LOL)

My sister in Laws mother is a hiker..she hiked and camped the Grand Canyon as well as a local island for over a week and wore her Tevas the whole time...she lives in hers...

I was just at Dick's sporting goods this morning and picked up a pair of the mens size 12 Tevas ($75) on sale for $29.97, so nows a good time to get em.

My family of five all have Teva's and love them. I'm not sure what style everyone has, but I have two pair, one Stratum and the other a leather flip flop. We all just love them!

sounds like everyone is for tevas, but i just got back from a 2 week vacation to 4 different parks & 3 days at DLR, and my crocs were by far the best and most comfy. they are pretty wide, so that shouldn't pose a problem. nordstrom now carries them, so you can go there to try them. i also bought a pair for my mom who is 62 and has had a history of problems with her feet and she cannot stop raving about them! i think they are perfect park shoes, IMHO. good luck with whatever you chose.
