My kids need new flip flops this year and since they wear them about 8-9 months of the year, I need quality ones that won't fall apart and are supportive and comfortable. I have a pair of Teva sandals that I love and are super comfortable, so I've been looking at the Teva Mush flip flops for kids.

The problem is, I can't find them in any stores around here, so if I decide to get them I'll have to order them online. I don't like buying my kids any kind of shoes without trying them on first, but it seems like I may have to. They've tried on Nike, Adidas, New Balance, the major sports brands since I can find them in stores, but none of them fit DD's feet well and I've only been able to find slides for DS, which are a disaster for him. And because I love my Tevas, I keep going back to that brand for the kids.

Has anyone bought some Teva flip flops for their kids? Do they run true to size or big/small? Does the fabric irritate the top of the foot? How about between the toes, does that irritate the toes? DD currently wears a size 4.5, but some size 5s fit her just right and some 4s fit her just right. She has really long and narrow feet. DS is 1-1.5 and his feet are long, but wider.

In the past I've bought 2-3 pairs of cheap flip flops each year for the kids, but they always end up falling apart. The Disney ones have been the worst! So this year I'll buy 1 cheap pair for the pool and 1 quality pair for everything else.

Any help or suggestions with the Teva flip flops would be much appreciated!

How old are your kids? Where are they wearing these flip flops?

As a teacher I hate flip flops on kids, anywhere but the pool. I consider them dangerous and every school I've worked in has banned them. I'd buy my kids real sandals, with a strap in the back to hold them on.

My DD's toes are very close together and she loves Teva mush flip flops, no problems between the toes. The last 2 years I had to size up a full size, she was a 12 last year and needed a 13. The store I buy them at didn't have them out yet, I was just looking yesterday.

Sierra trading post has a few on clearance right now. Campmor also has them.

I love Teva Mush sandals! Have you looked on sierratradingpost.com? That's where I've bought several of mine. They're pretty cheap, but the selection isn't the best!

oops, sorry, I didn't realize the person above me had already suggested them....

Ah, yeah. This is a regional thing. In the Gulf Coast South, kids wear flip-flops most of the year when they're NOT in school. (This is a region that has embraced uniforms in the schools for the most part, including strict rules on shoes.) Women will wear backless sandals most of the year even to work. (I admit it - I do this too.)

It's strictly a regional cultural thing, I think. Like the practice some regions have of wearing socks with sandals. . .

My kids love their TEVA mush flip-flops and I usually order a few pairs online for them (and myself) every spring. In response to pp, the Teva aren't typical as they mold to your feet, my kids never trip in them, they are like a second skin after the first week. My daughters feet are long and narrow also and most flip flops irritate her between the toes but not Tevas. She prefers them to sneakers.

Up here, I've seen kids sizes in outdoor stores like REI, Gander Mountain. DSW carries adult sizes 5 and up as well. If you can't find them in a store and are worried about sizing, order from shoebuy or zappos and you get free return shipping. :goodvibes

Not sure why it matters how old my kids are or where they're wearing them, but like snarlingcoyote said, we're in the Gulf Coast region and flip flops are worn everywhere. It is usually too cold for them in December, January and February, as I'm sure is the case in most areas of the south, but they're worn pretty regularly the other 9 months. My kids are not allowed to wear them at school, but they wear them everywhere else. Don't worry, they don't wear them at the park, either.

Since they've been wearing them almost nonstop for 4 years, they're pretty used to flip flops and we've never had a single problem. Besides, sandals with straps at the heel do not fit DD since her feet are very narrow around the heel and she always walks out of the sandals. Flip flops fit her best.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions given by the other posters. I'll look into zappos or shoebuy so I can get the free return shipping if I need it!

I haven't bought Teva sandals but my daughter and I wear Sanuk flip flops. The soles are made from the same material as yoga mats and they are so comfortable.

Here's a link on Amazon for women's sandals but they have kids as well. And they get great reviews.

We are in the South as well and my kids live in flip flop and sandals. They are allowed at our school if they don't have PE.

Funny - I'm purchasing new Teva's for my kids today online as well. My whole family loves them and lives in them for several months out of the year. Flip flops haven't been banned at the middle & high schools here, but they are "not suggested" at the elementary schools.

As others have mentioned - Sierra Trading Post usually has the best deals. 6pm has some right now, but the size selection is hit or miss.

For myself I'm in a half size and have to order the whole size smaller (I wear a 7.5, but order a 7) for the Mush flip flops and the Hurricane sandals. For the Olowahoo and Kokomo, I have to order a half size up - an 8. But that's because when I broke my toe it didn't set right and the straps cross over it uncomfortably in a 7.

For the kids - my oldest is in women's sizes. My younger two are in kid sizes. My eight year old wears about a 1-1.5, my seven year old wears about a 13 - 13.5. I just had them try on their Teva Mush I unearthed from last year, it gave me a good idea of what size I need to order for this year. For the eight year old I will need to order a 1, for the seven year old, a 13. So for the kids Teva Mush flip flops it has been my experience with long skinny fit, that they are true to size. Interestingly enough, the size 12 TerraFi sandals fit the seven year old (but not for long) and they both have a pair of Teva sneakers - those run small. My eight year old has a 3 with a little room to grow and my seven year old has a 1 that fits nicely. Go figure. lol
