If you test positive at port are you provided with a doctor's note, for lack of a better term, at that time? I am trying to find an insurance policy that will cover quarantining but most want it to be verified with a physician. I know we could always go to an urgent care and test again but I was wondering what DCL provides you with.

You are able to download a PDF of your test results (positive or negative) from your Safe Passage account.

When this happened to us in December we were handed an paper that was from Inspire (the testing company) that was the official results of the test. Had my husband's name, date test completed and results etc. It was given to us by a Dr. that comes in fo talk to you when you test positive.

If you find an insurance company that will cover that, please post. Thanks.

In am researching multiple companies but most have language in the policy similar to the below. This one specifically calls out quarantine but a lot use the language about a physician approving medical restrictions that prevent you from continuing the trip. I need to call the companies directly but I am not seeing anything in the fine print that would exclude covering quarantining. I am not sure that a negative test result at the port would be enough documentation as almost all policies call out needing a physician.

Trip Interruption must be due to one of the following Unforeseen reasons that occurs while this coverage is in effect for You:
1. Your, a Family Member’s, a Traveling Companion’s, a Traveling Companion’s Family Member’s, a Business Partner’s, or a Service Animal’s death that occurs after departure on Your Trip;
2. Your, a Family Member’s, a Traveling Companion’s, a Traveling Companion’s Family Member’s, a Business Partner’s, or a Service Animal’s covered Sickness or Injury that: (a) occurs while this coverage is in effect; (b) requires Medical Treatment by a Physician at the time of interruption; and (c) as certified by a Physician prior to interruption, results in medical restrictions so disabling as to prevent Your continued participation on the Trip. The Sickness or Injury of Your Business Partner must be so disabling as to reasonably cause you to assume daily management of the business;
3. the following other Unforeseen reasons which occur to You or Your Traveling Companion provided such circumstances occur while this coverage is in effect:
a. being unable to continue on Your Trip due to You or Your Traveling Companion being Quarantined;

You will have a PDF of the official lab result. The lab result documents the quarantine. It may be worth calling the insurance company you are evaluating to ensure that a positive lab result is enough to cover that case.

Yes but another poster who was denied boarding submitted a claim to DCL insurance for trip interruption and was told because they were denied boarding, this was a trip cancellation and not an interruption (even though they had taken DCL transportation). Hence no insurance coverage because the cancellation coverage was mooted by the DCL refund and interruption was not triggered. I have yet to hear anyone who has been successful in getting insurance to cover a quarantine after denial of boarding.

When my family member tested positive at Port Canaveral, they had a phone call with a doctor on-site. They would probably be the one to give you any necessary documentation.

When our claim was filed (Safe Travels Voyager though Trawick International) it fell under travel delay and not trip interruption/trip cancellation. After discussing the situation with the claims department that was the determination they made and the documents they sent us to fill out. The claim is not settled yet but speaking with a claims specialist it did seem as though our lodging, food and rental car would be covered for the quarantine period. I will update my experience when we hear back. Also, using Squaremouth to compare and purchase a policy is a good idea as they provide additional mediation at no cost if we are not satisfied with the initial outcome.

Wow! That's really good to know. Thanks

I think they also get around the DCL insurance in that they are providing refund/future booking, so to their insurance company you are not at a loss. Outside insurance covers the trip as you leave your house, so changes the rules a little.

Except that person was on DCL bus transfers which are part of the insured fare, so their trip had begun. The DCL insurance covers trip interruption and trip delay just like any other line… they just class it as a cancellation to get out of paying.
