Site Description: The actual Fort Adams measures 20 acres within it’s walls. It is in a state park that covers 120 acres on Brenton’s Point in Newport. The fort was built between 1798 and 1799, and enhanced in 1857. It was the largest fort of it’s kind built in the nation. It served as home for soldiers during several different wars. It has deteriorated through the years, but originally it’s motto was : “Fort Adams, the Rock on Which the Storm Will Beat.”
