Help! I'm a big ride chicken and gradually over the years I've begun to ride some of the bigger thrill rides. I'll ride Kali River Rapids, Star Tours, Barnstormer, Soarin and Test Track. I'm thinking that I might be okay to try Big Thunder Mountain this time around but I'm wondering how it is in comparison to a ride like Test Track?

It is just a fast train. That's it. Really not scary, no huge drops, no upside down. I think it is a perfect "first" roller coaster. I started my 6 year old grandson on Thunder Mountain, and we were able to move on to Everest! He loved them all!

If you can do Barnstormer you can do Thunder Mountain. I don't like roller coasters and I can do both of them. Test track is just fast and doesn't compare with the other two.

It's tough to compare the two as TT is not a roller-coaster. Speed wise, you won't get the speed of TT on BTM. BTM is more a nostalgic ride than a SUPER thrill coaster. BTM also has a great theme, so it's more an experience IMO. FWIW, both of our 5 year olds rode it a zillion times. I think you will not only be fine on BTM, but you will LOVE it as we do. :thumbsup2

you will be fine on BTM not a thrill ride at all. My 4 yr old loves it. Not big drops at all. Enjoy it.

I'm a big ride chicken as well and I'll do Thunder Mountain. I think it's more than a "fast train" but it's not too bad. My dd started riding when she was 6 and loves it!

You will be fine. It does 'feel' faster in the dark so I would ride it the first time during the day. Then you will love it and be fine at night too :). Very mild as far as roller coasters go but still fun.

Just out of curiosity, how does it compare to Splash Mountain?

According to my son - a lot less scary. He will only go on Splash once a trip and will ride BTM as many times as we can. I would rank them very similar with Splash being more of a thrill because of the big drop.

For OP, DS and I both thought Barnstormer was more scary than BTM. On Thunder, the track is surrounded by scenery, so it doesn't feel like you're on a roller coaster.

if you can handle all the rides listed above, you will be just fine with Big Thunder.

I agree with everyone. BTMR is just a longer Barnstormer. And I don't think Splash is really a coaster since it only has the one big drop. I love them both and DD is thrilled for our next trip since she will be tall enough and cannot wait for a longer coaster. I can only handle so many times on Barnstormer and after number 15 last trip I was ready to move her onto a bigger, longer ride.

A CM told me the biggest drop on BTMRR is the same as the one on POTC. I don't know if that's true or not, but I felt like a big baby for worrying about it after I rode it. It's fast and jerky, but unless you're in the back car, you barely feel the drops. I like the back row, because your butt leaves the seat on those little drops. In comparison to Splash(which I finally rode for the first time at 41) it's a totally different kind of ride. I liked the theme of Splash, but that last drop is way too much for me.

OP--if you do well on BTMRR, you should really try Space Mountain. The drops are a little bigger, but because it's dark, they're over before you realize you're dropping. I braved EE this trip and was surprised that the drop isn't bad because it curves. SO, now I only have RnRC and ToT as rides I won't do.

Thats the cool thing about BTMRR, it doesnt need big drops and inversions to be a very fun coaster. Im sure you'll love it.

If you're nervous, sit in the front. The hills are so small that by the time the back of the train clears the lift, you'll be 1/2 way down the hills. It feels a lot faster in the back.

You will be fine , it is one of our most favorite rides. I don't like fast roller coasters and will only go on them if I have a glass of vine :rotfl: and keep my eyes shut the whole time!

If you can do Barnstormer, you can do BTMR. If you want a less intense ride, then go in the front.

It is kind of hard to compare BTMR to TT. My personal opinion is if you can do Barnstomer you shouldn't have a problem with BTMR. BTMR is a fast coaster but has no large drops or inversions...just a lot of twists and turns. The ride is longer than the Barnstormer and a little more thrilling but it would be a good "starter coaster" so to speak. I've noticed that the back part of the train whips you around more than the other parts, I would suggest trying for the front or middle :thumbsup2.

i started my extremely timid step daughter on Thunder Mountain when she was 7. It's a quick fun coaster. She now refers to it as "a baby coaster".

you'll be fine. :thumbsup2
