Test Track Singing Group Video

Galaxy Quest?

Isn't that what it was called -- Galaxy Quest? Worst Disney show of all time (IMO)?

It performed over on the old old Tomorrowland Stage. Lots of spandex. The head (and ONLY the head) of the old Splashtacular dragon. Mickey and Donald trying to find the best singer in the universe or some such thing.

Now that I think about it ... I did get the title wrong. Galaxy Quest was the Tim Allen / Alan Rickman movie. What was the name of that really bad Tomorrowland show??

ETA: Galaxy SEARCH! That was it. Galaxy SEARCH. Sorry. (Still a bad bad show.)

I'm not sure what the PP's are talking about but Galaxy Quest was a funny movie particularly if you followed Star Trek at all.

The more recent "bad" show in Tomorrowland that I recall was named, "Stitch's Supersonic Celebration."

I think it was laughed off of it's (brand new) stage... and into an early closure-of-shame faster than "Galaxy Search."

It definitely had a shorter shelf life, but it also had Stitch (my favorite character), so it gets a point or two simply for that.

I commend Disney for introducing more live entertainment into the parks. But as a commercial for Chevy?

They aren't trying to "calm people who didn't know Test Track was closed" or "attract people to a closed ride." They were likely just attempting to provide some entertainment. I think a couple of the posters here are not fans of the live entertainment at the parks, or never noticed it, and the idea that it is "replacing" a RIDE (which would be closed anyway) is too much.

I do not like the idea of having the group do a commercial for the pavilion's sponsor though.

I guess one could take the perspective of the "commercial" singers trying to get people excited about the new Test Track in the fall of 2012.

After watching that video yesterday, I still have the Beatle's song stuck in my head.

It seems like everyone here is always complaining about the attractions at Epcot being out of date, but when then they make a huge expensive update to one of the attractions the same people complain about that attraction being closed while updating it? Long time reader, but felt the need to post here just to point out the hypocrisy of many of the members is through the roof.

So there is an a capella group in front of the ride, who cares? Is it really that big of a deal? The ride wasn't that great before, going on a medium speed car ride through a tuna can isn't all that impressive in my opinion, and making it sleeker and more futuristic will fit the theme of the area much better. A bunch of crybabies in here as far as i'm concerned.

With the huge amount of money that GM/Chevy is paying WDW to promote their products
(full, renewed Test Track sponsorship) I have the distinct feeling that it is
GM/Chevy who is dictating that this singing group
be there to promote and advertise Chevy during the TT refurb.

Something that the Disney Co. would not likely do on its own.

I've got to figure this to be a "command performance" kind of thing.

More people are upset about how the ride closure was handled-- not the ride itself closing. Test Track alone is not going to make Epcot better. I think Epcot needs a facelift and it should have been done long ago. This Test Track update isn't going to make a huge difference. I still like Epcot but it does need a little something to spice it up. It's obviously a matter of opinion.

I fail to see the hypocrisy you are trying to point out.

One of the most obvious issues with Test Track being closed is that it draws attention to how few alternatives there are. IMHO, Epcot should have made additions to the park a long time ago. If one major ride goes down, there should be a few alternatives. People are complaining about the ride closure and the lack of rides because losing Test Track makes us see that. One park shouldn't be able to lose that much appeal just by shutting down a single ride. Look at Thunder Mountain. That refurbishment was handled well and Magic Kingdom has a boat load of other things to do. I don't see nearly as many people complaining because it was a smoother transition.

As for the All-Stars -- I'm okay if they stay. I'm just not-so-secretly hoping they are gone by my trip. Most of us find it a little pathetic and funny. But I don't think anyone is truly rattled by it.

Now I understand why some people would be upset. The late-ness of the announcement would be upsetting, but I don't think that the singers are a bad addition.

I don't know I guess I take a weird attitude towards it. I could be upset that there will be 3 things that we wanted to do closed for our trip but then I could say, but now we can do 3 other things that we have not done before.

I really appreciate your positive attitude!:goodvibes

To me, Epcot is more about things other than rides. It is true that it has few headliner rides. But I don't think that was ever its purpose. For ride junkies (like me) I think it's better to go to Cedar Point or King's Dominion or somewhere like that to get our fix. For pure entertainment, nothing (again IMHO) beats Disney. I'm bummed TT will be closed while we are there in a week, but I'll still enjoy my time there. I will, however, be skipping the singers, since they are just not my cup of tea. After reading the link one of the pp provided, it looks like the late announcement to close TT was due to Disney hoping they could convince GM to hold off on the referb. I appreciate everyone's comments and opinions since that is what makes the DIS tick.

In my opinion Test Track needed to be updated just as much as any of the other attractions at Epcot. Walking into it's queue is like going on a field trip to a cheesy 90's museum exhibit and that's not good considering it's one of the most hyped and popular attractions on property. So to me it makes sense that it closes for a retheme. Epcot is huge and there is a lot to do, even with Test Track closed I could easily spend all day there.

Sure more attractions could use a refresh, but the huge attendance New Test Track will bring in brings in more capitol for re-investment back into the park. If you seriously think this is the only attraction slated for retheming in the park you haven't been paying attention to whats been going on with the company.

Reading thru the disappointing comments on TT being down, personally I thought it was odd and didn't care for it when I went.
But I just thought now it would be cool to have Tron there instead. A fast cycle ride, kinda like ET(from universal) on steroids and on those futuristic motorcyles with neon themeing.

Sad that TT is closed for our summer vacation at Dis. I try not to say negative things about Disney no matter what so all I will say about this is :rotfl:

I didn't say that but I hope it's true. I just hope they do so tactfully. There was nothing tactful about this Test Track fiasco. Epcot arguably should have been making these updates years ago. It should be spread out so they aren't refurbishing everything at once. After Test Track reopens, I don't think people are going to want to see another ride at Epcot close. As much as it needs improvement, I think they should space it out.

Space it out how...I get waiting until after Test Track reopens to close another ride but the post seems to be saying they should wait awhile even AFTER the reopening to close another ride for rehab. As long as two rides aren't closed at the same time I don't know what difference it makes, A rehab closure is going to mean that someone, somewhere, misses out.

Unless that means they should wait to do any more refurbishment until additional NEW rides are built - but I don't see that any totally new rides are planned for Epcot anytime soon.

This (the thing in red) is the kind of comment that baffles me. I mean, I'm sure the All-Stars are thrilled that you're okay if they stay , but really ... if you don't want to see them, don't see them. There's no reason that they need to be gone by the time you visit. If the possibility that you might run into them while you're at Epcot causes you such distress, it'll be pretty easy to avoid them. First off, they'll be in front of a closed pavilion that you'll really have no reason to go to. (Because it's closed.) And secondly, their schedule will be printed in the Entertainment Times Guide, so all you have to do is not go to their performance location at those times.

Sheesh. I've never seen so many people complain about something that no one is forcing them to see.

:earsboy:

Just to clarify MY opinion...I was not complaining about the new "entertainment" group. I was making fun of them. Two different things. :rotfl:

I do happen to enjoy many of the live entertainers throughout the parks and resorts, just not this particular set of entertainers, LOL. I also don't have a problem with cheesy -- I actually LIKE Ellen's Energy Adventure, just to give one example. I think most of the cheesy Disney stuff is GOOD cheesy, and funny. This, in my opinion, is BAD cheesy.

I don't care if they stay or go. I won't be taking the time to watch them, but I don't mind if they're there and others want to watch them. I think Disney could do MUCH better though. :thumbsup2
