I have heard this rumor for a while and I can't confirm weather its a complete overlay or just elements.

We know in the up coming refurb there will be extensive next gen work to the queue but beyond that there are three rumors.

1. Story change back towards a World of Motion angle
2. Tron Overlay
3. Small tron elements.

Martin over at Magic says there is truth to the Tron rumors and he has never been wrong.

I say keep Tron out of EC and go with the WOM angle!

This is tearing at me... I love Tron, so so much. However, I have to agree it doesn't really have a fitting place in EC, as its more fantastical in nature which is why I'd see it maybe having a place in Tomorrowland, an Epcot tie in would be awkward to the look and feel of future world. This is one that I just can't jump onto, at least right now.

Doubting that this would happen as long as GM is still the sponsor. I'd think its more likely that the "overlay" will simply involve putting more GM (or perhaps Chevy) logos on the vehicles and props.

Well the are rehabbing the ride system so it doesn't break down every ten minutes also the queue will be redone.

In that same thread other reliable sources indicated that this isn't going to be a major Tron re-work but it may have some Tron-like elements.

I hate when they do this to Epcot.

I believe Epcot should be free of influences from Disney movies and such in there rides. It wasn't designed to incorporate these elements in the first place (especially Future World) and shouldn't now.

I'm not a huge fan of The Seas now (although I do see the reason why they did it, so I give them some leeway here) and it irritates me when they try this, especially with a popular ride such as TT. Why, givin' the popularity would you want to overhaul it???

Getting off my soapbox now and putting my mouse ears back on

It does need to be fixed. It's pretty out-dated and a lot of the effects don't work.

so true. last time i went on it, the on-ride audio was busted, the on-ride video was busted, the brake/hot/cool/acid tests weren't working, and the tractor trailer was delayed. pretty disappointing imho.

Yup and it's sad they let EPCOT get like this TT is a disaster the Soarin screen it terrible. They are scared to close either because EC would be a capacity nightmare.

Maybe if they didn't close a certain pavilion about the human body they wouldn't be in this mess.

Though Tron was a good movie, i am NOT in favor of putting it in this attraction! i think tt is awesome and should stay as is! if something's not broke don't fix it, Disney.

Its not scheduled yet, but I'm 99% sure it IS happening

Yeah, whether they add Tron or not, Test Track is the Big Thunder Mountain of Epcot -- it's got so many things wrong with it that it's WAY overdue for a major refurb.

I suspect they will do SOMETHING fairly significant to it because it's become such a maintenance nightmare, and a big change/upgrade could address that.

Again for those who post without reading the thread, It IS broke. It needs fixing

I enjoyed the Tron movies, but they really aren't box office smash material that you base attractions on that need to last 10+ years. If they want to improve TT, they can just take me on the outside loop for 3-4 more times and I'll call it good!:earsboy:

Fixing isn't the same as changing. During a refurb Disney could easily decide to fix the things that are broke, but not actually change the attraction.

Why make a change when this place is so busy anyhow? Its not like they need to do something to attract more people. I'd guess that this and Soarin are the two most popular attractions in Epcot.

First off,
I do think they need to change it. It needs to be updated with the more current car technology. It doesn't need Tron stuff though IMHO

on your second point,
If it does get a refurb it will be during their off season in visits. and yes, Those are definitely the 2 most popular attractions in FW

It depends. Sometimes a major refurb will take so long it's going to cover at least one of the peak seasons. Big Thunder is going to be down for President's Week/Spring Break/Easter, for example, because it needs so much work.

Test Track could fall into that category as well -- a long-term refurb, because there is quite a bit wrong with it and they may re-theme it or alter it in some significant way in addition to the refurb work.
