Hi

Has anyone used these to book flights to Orlando?

How many miles are needed?

The virgin sight is saying 45,000 and i was wondering if this was right?

Hi

I've looked at this also and unless I'm missing something this appears to be right. This seemed to be the number of miles needed for a return flight for one person.

We were looking at it as we were considering getting the Virgin Atlantic credit card which also earns you miles (we would be using it for purchases and paying off the full balance every month just as we do with our current card so thought this would be a good way to get a little something back). Adding the Tesco points to it makes it add up quite quickly, but unless you are a serious spender in both Tesco and on the credit card it would take forever to save enough miles to actually go anywhere.

On the other hand the miles can be used for other things on your holiday eg upgrades etc so I'm still thinking about this.

Wonder if anyone else has any more experience of this?

Just now its 45k & £275. Calc here to check.

We booked for this summer using miles, at the time we booked there was a sale on, Premium Economy for 50k & £335. Considering PE in summer can cost as much as £1300-1400 this is quite a good saving.

Check for latest sale offers here (only one now is NYC for 29,500)

More often than not we find better deals using our miles for Miles & Money fares, you only need 2,000pp in economy for a discounted fare.

45000 miles (£180 of clubcard vouchers) + £275 taxes/surcharges = £455 per adult return.

This is no great saving considering the £180 of clubcard vouchers will be worth £540-£720 at other retailers.

I simply exchanged £8 of clubcard vouchers to get my 2000 miles to be able to purchase a miles and money flight - which saved me £80 on the flight full cost.

I wouldn't use miles to buy the flight, I'd use them to upgrade a flight. Buy a flight in a sale, then use your miles to upgrade. You can upgrade from economy to upper for 25k.

You can use them to upgrade but you can't just buy a cheap economy ticket, You would have to buy seats with a qualifying code. For our dates that would cost £1,120.99pp + 25k to upgrade.
You have to look at all options but upgradeable seats are not usually cheap.

How many £s in vouchers do you need for 45000 miles?
Sorry to be thick I just can't get my head around this at all! :goodvibes

Hope this is correct.
£2.50 worth of Clubcard vouchers gives you 625 miles so 45k = £72

I registered for a Clubcard about 2 months ago when they announced this deal, so far collected 89 points :rotfl2:

:rotfl: We have a Tesco credit card and use it for most purchases just to get points, DH said we have about £400 of vouchers so that should be enough for us to get some flights and just pay the taxes.

Thanks Wayne. :goodvibes

You did the first part correctly, but you need to remember that it's 72 times £2.5, so 45000miles comes to £180 worth of vouchers.

OK now I am lost. :rotfl2:
£2.50 worth of vouchers = 625 miles
45,000/625 = £72 worth of vouchers.

I too think it is 45000/625 = 72 vouchers required. 72 x 2.50 = 180.00

I got some virgin miles with my vouchers but am looking at m+m flights as there are no free flights around the dates I want. The m+m flights mean we can return PE for the same price as a return economy flight on the same dates so I won't be saving anything - just getting increased luggage allowance to come home with :rotfl:

Yes sorry, 72 vouchers @ £2.50 each, I thought you meant 180 vouchers at £2.50, its me that put it down wrong, I knew what I meant:rotfl:

so I need £180 worth of vouchers per flight then?

Looks like it unless anyone knows any different, so confusing.:confused3

It is very confusing isn't it! this is why I said sorry for being thick in my 1st post as I just can't get my head aroud it at all! :goodvibes

As an additional question, but related - does anyone know how many miles are needed for an infant travelling on my knee/in a skycot, either by using the reward flight, or the Miles and Money scheme?

I can't figure it out, and they keep telling me I don't have enough miles (well duh, I haven't done anything with my tesco points until I know whether it's better value to use miles or go through virgin holidays or one of the other holiday schemes).

p.s. T16GEM - love your signature pic. Are you going to the tour? I have front row seats for Liverpool, but baby is due the day after the show, so I might not be able to make it #labour pending.

Yes I have 4* for Birmingham on 27th April I CANNOT wait to get me some DDub action :rotfl: I hope your baby holds on until after the show!!

I have just done a dummy booking and it says 475 miles plus 87.90 to pay for an infant (under 2) - this was for economy out and PE return.

it is confusing, and not as easy as it looks. I have looked at M+M etc, but I do not want to book direct flights. Instead, I want to book with VirginHolidays.

So, I plan to build up my miles, with CC vouchers, and book economy seats as part of my VH booking. THen I will look to upgrade to PE, either both, or at least return flight, as long as I can on those flight. Not guaranteed, so I may end up flying ecomony, and have 50,000 points in my bank, with no way of using them

Once thing to note, apparantly. Just because the website says your flight, or seat is not upgradable with points, once you arrive at the airport, you can ask to be upgraded if there are any empty seats, and they will upgrade you via points.
