Terry's Marathon training thread (Comments welcome)

 Hi Terry,
I'm so sorry to hear of the basement troubles you are having. I hope it is over very soon. Sending good vibes your way for tomorrow :goodvibes .

Hi Terry -

Thanks for posting in my journal, especially with everything you have going on in your life. I hope you get the basement stuff taken care of soon. Hang in there and remember you have friends here to help you get through this :flower:

I will add my hopes to the others. I hope the insurance company is efficient and generous to boot. Take good care of you. If you are having troubles with the asthma, your doc may want to put you on steroids temporarily until the house is cleaned out. I hope you are feeling better and having a great weekend.
Beth

Terry, you are amazing! You're doing a great job with your training, even when Life throws you a curve, like a flooded basement! Your positive attitude is wonderful!

I hope today is a good one for you and that you're feeling pretty good!

Ah, Monday, Monday. What a day.
Another injection day in the tubes, and another recovery half way done. I tried taking my 2nd naproxen at the 10 hour mark, versus waiting for the 12 hour mark and it seems to be helping. I guess if I stay in front of the med headache, I am better off.
I walked for an hour last night after my shot. WATPing upstairs, since dh has discovered a lot of black mold in the basement from the water. He has been cutting it out and removing it, but some was even in the insulation! No wonder my allergies have been off kilter! There is one more big slab of drywall to remove, and the area should be cleared. DH says he can tell a difference in the smell already so it was worse than we originally thought. Ugh.
I continue on with my marathon training. Today is a day of rest but this week holds my longest walk yet! I hope I can maintain a good pace for this long walk - it will be telling of my ability in January! Now, let's hope for some warmer temps. Not sure how I will walk in wind chill temps in the teens! Brrr brrr brrr....

Terry, I hope you are feeling well tonight!

I wish that I could send you some warm Florida weather for your walk this week but even as I type our temperature is in the 30's and steadily dropping. We will have a wind chill in the teens tonight just like you are having there!

I can't send any :sunny: but I will say I hope you have a great walk and accomplish all that you are hoping too!

When will it be warm again Terry?
Good job on the exercise last night and I am so sorry to hear about your basement. There is nothing worse!

Hi Terry,

I hope you are feeling better. you might want to let your doc know about the mold situation and your symptoms. He may adjust your meds until things settle at the house.
Try to keep warm,
Beth

Have you ever just wanted to SCREAM?!?!?!
icon_angry.gif

That's how I am feeling today! What's the saying about the best laid plans....
icon_banghead.gif
Our furnace went out again. It started screaming (literally sounded like there was a cat caught in the vents last night starting @10 pm) and then the heat stopped. It was 53º in the house this morning. Even the dog was shivering.

We had to call the Home Buyers warranty plan people again. They said we had to wait until this morning. I called this morning. Insisted they NOT send back the crew that didn't fix it last time (and flooded the basement). Another deductible gone. I believe the furnace is fixed now. The guy was here over 2 hours - had to leave and get additional parts, etc etc... I just wished it had been fixed LAST time. Plus all of my plans for the day were ruined. Being the warmest day of this week (a whopping 43º) I needed to get my 10 mile walk in today! I didn't get in my walk, didn't get any shopping done and have a really tight chest and dry cough. Ugh. I am sure I will have to go into the doctor and get something to get my breathing back on track.

I am simply frustrated with life right now. Sorry for the vent! I know things could be worse - the furnace could STILL be broken!

We are off to basketball practice -- no time for journals right now. Hopefully later! STAY WARM, WISHERS!!! :grouphug:

{{{hugs}}} Terry! I hope you don't have any more problems with your furnace or anything else for that matter!

Have fun at basketball practice and resist the urge to tell the coaches what to do! :earboy2: LOL

Oh Terry... I'm so sorry to hear about your day. Being a homeowner is tough at times and I've been in your situation before (heater going out in the winter) Thank God you were able to get someone out there right away and take care of it. I hope you get everything taken care of and you go a long long time before you have to do this again.

Don't worry about venting.... we all do it at one time or another :earseek:

 Terry,

I am sorry to hear abou your ongoing furnace problems. Hopeefully, it is fixed for good. I hope you have a great weekend.

terry, you are so for the marathon. Missing that walk will not change that. You CAN and WILL complete it.
Beth

I'm so sorry you are dealing with more frustration, Terry. I agree with Beth though that you are ready for the marathon. Take care.

Hello Terry, my friend! How is everything going??? I hope better than last week. Take things slow, take GOOD care of yourself, and we will all muddle through some how. I hope your absence from your journal doesn't mean you ended up being sick. :wizard: coming your way just in case.

Thank you for the warm WISHes in my journal. I'm keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully you are feeling okay after your shot yesterday too. :earboy2:

Have a wonderful week!

TTFN-
Sharon

And like a phoenix, I am trying to rise from the ashes.... ;)

Sharon, your guess was right. I have been sick. I was puffing on my albuterol every 3-5 hours, 2-4 puffs at a time, just trying to make it through the weekend without a visit to the ER. I guess between the moisture in the basement and then the lack of heat, my asthma couldn't take anymore.

I went to the doctor today - got a nice pile of rx's and some prednisone. Watch out marathon training! I can probably walk 20 miles now! Hahahah :teeth: Okay - so the dose isn't that high. ;)

Got my shot yesterday since I didn't have a fever. It was on the side - typically a horrible injection site, but the dart was completely pain free! Wow! :earseek: That was a first. Still some pain with the plunge - that can't be avoided - the medicine has to get in there. I walked for an hour afterwards - 30 minutes of walking and then the 2 mile WATP tape. Took my 2nd pain pill at 5:30am and I have been GREAT all day!!!! I am so happy!! No lingering headaches, no body aches! This is awesome!! It looks like the 60 minute workout might be another key.

Plans for this week - finish Christmas shopping, wrap presents, plan out Christmas menu because the party is over here again (I warned everyone that this trend will not be continuing - gotta spread the love and open those doors ;) ), get the cooktop installed, fold laundry... So basically the same ol' same ol'.

The weather is cold here but it is supposed to get even colder by Thursday so I hope to get my long walk in tomorrow (if the lungs are up to it). I would love to do it outside but I need to see if I can breathe this cold air that well.

Thanks for checking up on me, everyone! I hope to get around to the journals and get caught up soon! :grouphug:

Hi Terry,

I'm sorry to hear about hte problems with your asthma. I am glad you got some prednisone. Please take it easy. It will take a couple of doses before things stabilize. Good luck with your schedule this week.
Stay warm,
Beth

Hi Terry!

I am sorry to hear about your asthma. I hope that the medication works and that you start to feel better soon.

I am glad to hear that this week's shot was relatively pain free for you. That is good news! :cool1:

I'm sending you lots of :wizard: :wizard: to help you accomplish all that you need to get done this week.

Have a great Tuesday!

Tracy

This bit of Christmas humor was sent to me by a good friend. Enjoy the chuckle! I know I did. :teeth:

Subject: Christmas Eating Tips

1. Avoid carrot sticks. Anyone who puts carrots on a holiday buffet table
knows nothing of the Christmas spirit. In fact, if you see carrots, leave
immediately. Go next door, where they're serving rum balls.

2. Drink as much eggnog as you can. And quickly. Like fine single-malt
scotch, it's rare. In fact, it's even rarer than single-malt scotch. You
can't find it any other time of year but now. So drink up! Who cares that it
has 10,000 calories in every sip? It's not as if you're going to turn into
an eggnogaholic or something. It's a treat. Enjoy it. Have one for me. Have
two. It's later than you think. It's Christmas!

3. If something comes with gravy, use it. That's the whole point of gravy.
Gravy does not stand alone. Pour it on. Make a volcano out of your mashed
potatoes. Fill it with gravy. Eat the volcano. Repeat.

4. As for mashed potatoes, always ask if they're made with skim milk or
whole milk. If it's skim, pass. Why bother? It's like buying a sports car
with an automatic transmission.

5. Do not have a snack before going to a party in an effort to control your
eating. The whole point of going to a Christmas party is to eat other
people's food for free. Lots of it. Hello?

6. Under no circumstances should you exercise between now and New Year's.
You can do that in January when you have nothing else to do. This is the
time for long naps, which you'll need after circling the buffet table while
carrying a 10-pound plate of food and that vat of eggnog.

7. If you come across something really good at a buffet table, like frosted
Christmas cookies in the shape and size of Santa, position yourself near
them and don't budge. Have as many as you can before becoming the center of
attention. They're like a beautiful pair of shoes. If you leave them behind,
you're never going to see them again.

8. Same for pies. Apple. Pumpkin. Mincemeat. Have a slice of each. Or, if
you don't like mincemeat, have two apples and one pumpkin. Always have
three. When else do you get to have more than one dessert? Labor Day?

9. Did someone mention fruitcake? Granted, it's loaded with the mandatory
celebratory calories, but avoid it at all cost. I mean, have some standards.

10. One final tip: If you don't feel terrible when you leave the party or
get up from the table, you haven't been paying attention.

Reread tips; start over, but hurry, January is just around the corner.

The tips are great! I got a chuckle and will send them on to spread the cheer!!!!!

I hope you are recovering from the asthma, my sister and one brother have asthma, I know its no fun. Take care of yourself :)

Sundie

Thanks Terry for sharing that. That was pretty funny :p
