Resort Thread Jambo! Disney's ANIMAL KINGDOM LODGE

Finally splurged on a three night stay at the AKL and planned our entire trip around staying at the resort those days… and of course it’s going to be a high of mid-50s. So much for lazy pool and animal watching days. 😭
If you don't have a savanna view room there are still lots of places to watch the animals, both inside and outside the resort.

We actually saw a lot of animal activity on our cold weather trip! It was ridiculous ( 30's!) so most of the time the giraffes were in the barn but they did roam sometimes, and the other animals were running around and chasing each other playfully. We were told by a guide the activity level typically increases as they try to stay warm.

Savanna room booked for 2 nights in May. DD would love to see giraffes and I'd love a higher floor. A resort stay to enjoy this resort for the first time, then off to WL for 5 nights. Thoughts on what I should request? Moderate to minimum walk to lobby would be great! Thanks! Also, does the food court area have the canned coffee in the coolers?

We have a savanna room. The concern is it’s a high of 55. No way we can do the pool. Not sure how the animals will feel about the cooler temps.

The animals won't mind, and that's what hot tubs are for! Enjoy your trip!
We have a baby with us, so no hot tubs this trip. Hence the splurge for a savanna room- we figured we’d have lots of time on the balcony watching the animals.

The animals won't care. They will be out and about around the resort and hopefully near your balcony. Enjoy your vacation! 🦒

We had a savanna view a few years ago when it was chilly and damp, too uncomfortable to sit on the balcony - I tried. I found that I could pull a chair up close enough to the window to have a reasonably good view. It wasn’t what I had hoped for, but it was better than nothing. The animals didn’t mind - I have some good photos of giraffes and zebras.

If you're in Jambo House, the highest floor (6) only has DVC Club Level rooms.

I don't think I would request a higher floor if you have a savanna view room, because I think you can see the animals better from the lower floors. I'm sure others will offer their opinions.

I agree that a lower floor allows a better view of the animals. We usually book Kidani, where the lowest floor is the second floor (first floor is the under building garage and the Sanaa restaurant). I don’t know what the lowest floor at Jambo is.

Thanks for all the info! First time at AKL and excited! Usually we are at WL, and happy to get all the tips I can for AKL. So the second floor at the Lodge? And any suggestions for room area? How is pool seating there? We usually are early pool people (10 a.m. opening, correct?) and WL is great, but gotta get a table quickly there, lol)!

We find the pool a Jambo to be a little unique. There is seating (and tables) inside the gated area. They also have lots of seating around the outside of the gated area - again, with a couple tables. So you might have some options. The gated area of the pool does open at 10am, I believe, but you can sit at the tables and chairs outside of it just about anytime.
