Ridge announces terrorism 'Ready Campaign'
CINCINNATI, Ohio (AP) -- Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge on Wednesday announced a "Ready Campaign" to advise families on what they can do to protect themselves against terrorism.
The program includes public service announcements that encourage families to have a communications plan so members can reach each other in an emergency; to make a supply kit with flashlights, batteries, water and other necessities; and to learn more about terrorism.
"The threat of terrorism forces us to make a choice: We can be afraid or we can be ready," Ridge said. "Today, America's families declare we will not be afraid and will be ready."
"Our message is this: We cannot always predict an attack; we can always prepare. There are simple things you and your family can do to prepare for the unlikely but possible terrorist incident -- namely, make a kit, make a plan and be informed."
"This is not just a response to terrorism," Ridge said. "We believe it is a deterrence."
