Terror in the Skies, Again?

I watched but didn't come away with too much. I guess something went on, on the flight. But we'll never know exactly what because we weren't there. I'm sure there were people that didn't think anything strange was going on.

Unfortunately, I did not see it, I wish I had. Was anything mentioned to dispell the story we have all read? I know that some have called it an urban legend. I hope to God they are right, for all our sakes.

That is bone chilling. I hope we as a country can do more to keep our country safe. If it means profiling, so be it!

I'm with you on this one. Any decent person would understand being detained and questioned in length in this day and age. If it means our safety then it should be done.

That's some scary stuff. I can tell you that I always wait to board the plane last so I can view everyone seated. If I don't like the way things look. I'm off the plane!

No, nothing to dispell it. It did happen. There were 14 Syrian men on that flight and they were detained afterward.

Of course, it was only the husband and wife on the show so we didn't have another person's perspective but the woman said she's talked to many pilots since this and they all told her it's the airlines' "dirty little secret" that Arab men are doing 'dry runs' on flights. That was pretty scary to me.

She also said that all the airline stewardesses on that flight had the exact same story she and her husband had for the FBI.

This is really scaring me. I have two trips planned one to San Francisco in August and then one to Las Vegas in September. We were supposed to leave for Las Vegas on September 11, I told DH he must be kidding. There isn't any way that I am getting on a plane on September 11!

I read the article and thought there was a major overreaction on the part of the author & the flight crew. I wonder if they would have reacted the same way had the individuals been Caucausian males instead of men of Middle Eastern descent. I believe in rational fear, but this is allowing fear to overcome rational thought.

It was not Caucausian males that flew the planes into the twin towers. Troll alert!

Scary!!
I have to back her story about the extremely thorough screening in Europe and lax screeing in the States: Since 9/11 at Frankfurt Airport all transatlantic passengers are at least screened twice, but only once when switching planes in then US.

I guess I would have freaked out on that plane and have demanded immediate action from the crew.

And of course we STILL have only this woman's story to go on. Why after all this time have the major news media not picked up on it and reported it. Why have we not heard from other passengers ... surely Scarborough & Co. could have obtained that information and found someone -- ANYONE -- who would corroborate this story. Where are these "many pilots" she's allegedly talked to? Why are none of them willing to come forward to support her account of the airlines' "dirty little secret?"

It's only scary if you still believe ghost stories told around a campfire are really true.

But then again, apparently this is just another troll posting.

The show did have an NBC reporter come on after the couple was done talking and he was able to confirm most of the story based on interviews he did with the airline and the FBI etc....

I didn't call you a troll and I don't believe in ghosts.

Well, that settles everything, doesn't it? You'll forgive me if I still wonder why there is still no first-hand corroboration of this individual's tale of terror. Just because a reporter said they could confirm most -- but not ALL -- of the story. Just makes me wonder what parts was the reporter unable to confirm.

And I didn't say you did... that reference was to another post.

Good, and I also don't believe every airline horror story I read. Although this one's been good for a few laughs.

I used the word most, not the reporter. I don't remember everything he said when I was recaping the show for the poster who missed the show, so I said 'most' to cover myself.

I never said it settled everything nor do I care whether you believe it really happened or not. I really don't want to debate you. You can believe whatever you want. I'm not trying to sway you.

"Most" or "all" -- it really doesn't change the fact that no one else has come forward or gone on record with a first-hand account of what they saw on this flight. None of the flight crew, none of the other passengers, no one from any federal agency. All we have is this woman's account with her husband and the statement of a reporter.

As I said before, the silence is deafening.

Asking if everyone watched the show Monday night and then replying to the person who didn't see it and replying to your post specifically quoting me is trying to sway you? Don't think so.

My prayer is that I hope those who support racial profiling for air travel (or any type of travel) NEVER are subjected to it themselves. I also hope if/when that day does come that there is someone around who will say that that is just as wrong as what we are doing to people of Middle Eastern descent today.

Why? If I was aware that a small fringe group of auburn haired, green eyed women from Boston was planning to attack the US (or anywhere I was flying to) and desperatly wanted to see all Americans dead, I'd understand 100% the reasons why I needed to be looked at a little more closely than everyone else.

When a crime is committed, the police are given a description of the suspect. When a crime is tipped off by someone before it happens and the cops have good reason to suspect a person based on what the tip said they'd look like, they most certainly can and should stop people fitting that description and question them.

This is the same thing on a larger scale, IMO.

I profile and I will continue to do, and if someday a bunch of crazed women who happen to look like me start blowing up planes, I hope for the safety of EVERYONE that I get stopped and scrutinzed and I would completely understand why.

Better safe than sorry when you're dealing with irrational people who want to kill you.

Nope, this is just prejudice on a larger scale, IMO.

Sure you would as would everyone else. :sad2: It's easy to say that now, because you are not in a group that is being scrutinized. I dare say that when the day comes, we will be hearing loud wailing and loads of "righteous indignation" at the unjustified profiling of a group of people based solely on their appearance.
Better safe than sorry when you're dealing with irrational people who want to kill you.
It's always easier to do that when it involves some other group of people. Irrational paranoia is always a solid justification for prejudice.

I agree completely. Profiling is necessary, no matter how you describe it.
