Terror Alerts and Flying...

Me too! My purse and keys alone could do some damage!;)

I am more nervous about engine failure or a bird flying into us than terroists.:(

I am not a huge believer in what Captain America had to say. I do not believe that being afraid of flying means giving in to terrorism or that THEY win if one is too fearful to do so. And I most certainly do not believe that I am dishonoring anyone if I am afraid to fly due to threats of terror. I am tired of those type of speeches.

There are no winners or losers in war. It isn't a game.
Americans have the right to chose what we do with our lives, for the most part. Thank goodness.

I was not afraid to fly after 9-11 and I was (am) supportive and understanding of those who were (are). I didn't and don't think it is necessary or productive in any way to cause those folks additional anguish by insinuating that they aren't quite American enough or that they are letting the terrorist win. Lets try compassion.

I have flown often since 9-11. I am a little fearful now. I think my fear stems from putting my kids in harms way and my "daymares" of having anyone hurt them in front of me. I would fight to my death to protect them.

All that being said we are booked to fly into Orlando in less that 2 weeks. Not because if I don't the terrorists win or because I am more American than those Americans who are afraid to fly (bless their, our, hearts) but because the price is right and my DH got a few days off!!!! I feel better that he is with us.
Yippee!

Generally, you don't have much to worry about when it comes to birds. Engine failures are quite rare, and even then, you still have at least one left. Not trying to trivialize it, but the statistics are in your favor.

I was so scared of the warnings that I was going to cancel my flight. But I decided to go ahead with them. This was our first time flying and we flew out 8/8 and returned today (8/16). I always felt safe, never really had any worries once I got on the plane. I was more scared of heights and the turbulance (sp?). For awhile it was a bumpy ride.
