Terribly Terrific Thursday Riddle!!!

Okay blame this one on Marsha... I had a non-Pirate one all picked out, but I had to change it...

5 big pirates and 2 small pirates are following a map to treasure when they come to a river. It isn't a terribly big one, but it is wide and deep enough to make it impossible for them to swim across. If they don't cross the river, they can't get their treasure. They carried a small raft with them, but the raft can only hold one large pirate or 2 small pirates at the same time. How did the pirates cross the river?
